  1. mmmm, smell that infield pop cooking! (hey, I'm trying to help!)
  2. ok, everytime I get down and post the worst case scenario, they do the opposite.... mmmmm, smell THAT strikeout cooking...
  3. mmmm, smell that double play cooking!
  4. time for Maddux to give up one thousand, five hundred, and elevendy runs to make things right after we got 1....
  5. Aram needs to take a walk right here, so we can bring Ernie in to knock out a new catchphrase... LETS STRAND TWO!
  6. Please Dusty, if you have one smart move left in your empty shell of a head before you catch a Greyhound out of town, Pull Maddux if he lets anymore runs score....
  7. He bunted? **gives signal to snipers** **BLAAAAAM** Sorry, I told them to take out anyone who tried a slap bunt. **Calls in Bozo The Clown No. 2**
  8. Sorry, this "managerial handbook" Dusty left me said those guys were too young and needed to sit on the bench to learn the game... They'll be in later in double switches though, probably take Ronny and Matt out, they're too young to stay in a whole game.
  9. Sorry guys, I was just named interim manager, todays lineup will be the following... LF Bozo The Clown 2B Ryne Sandberg (hey, he'll produce better than Neifi...) CF Kanye West SS Ronny Cedeno (sorry, i brought the kid up and was going to bench him, but with all the splinters in his butt from last time, he can't sit down...) 3B Whoever in Umphrey's McGee is the biggest Cubs fan RF Matt Murton (kid about died when I said I'd play him tomorrow too...) 1B Michael Jordan (can't hurt!) P Steve Stone C Cookie the Cook (not the first time this year we've let off and ended the lineup with clowns...)
  10. I think everyone should bring rotten tomatoes and chuck them at these losers...at least that way we'd see if there's any diamonds in the rough we should add to our rotation  Nah, not even the kid from Rookie Of The Year could save us now....
  11. These Cubs don't just lose games...they lose games BRILLIANTLY. I mean, I'd be more upset if we were losing 1 run games each and every night, or leading up to the 8th or 9th and implode. But what these guys are doing is BRILLIANT. Just getting the holy crap kicked out of you day in and day out. To lose better than we are right now, you would have to actually THROW THE FREAKING GAME. I mean, we don't take a 1-1 game to the 9th and have the other team knock in the winning run with two outs...we WALK TWO BLEEPING RUNS HOME AND ALLOW 7 RUNS IN AN INNING! Not only do we do that, we manage to lose a game 8 to 1 while OUTHITTING THE OPPOSITION. Hell if Cincy needs hits, we give them TEN FREAKING WALKS. Oh well, I guess i'm just the type that, if I know I'm going to die in a carwreck, give me the clusterbomb that makes the evening news over the light tap that freakishly kills you with whiplash... **Loads the Hookah** Who wants a hit? It helps to dull the pain a LOT... **laughing through the tears**
  12. True, but that breaks the hearts of your fans too quickly, you have to do it slowly, one stab at the heart at a time  No, the best way to waste runners would be with a triple play. That keeps the opposing pitcher to a minimum of pitches.
  13. Now THAT is how you waste runners at 1st & 2nd, with no outs, without a double play...IN STYLE! Say what you will, but we lose brilliantly.... (laughing through the tears....)
  14. Yeah, really, it's a freebie prospect who will likely never pan out to anything but, you never know, could put something together out of the blue in a couple years and be worth something.
  15. more likely he just wants to put the final nail in our coffin
  16. Doubtful a few good years, maybe 1. It seemed that was all it took for the AL to figure him out and hammer him. If the Cubs were in the hunt I'd be all for it, he could probably fool the NL for the last month or two and be good. But with where we're at, no thanks. Maybe as a throw-away spring training invite or something, else i'd rather just build from within our system.
  17. Huh? Corey is pretty darn likely to be back next year. Ditto for Walker, we've got an extremely nice option for him. And I would not think for a second Nomar will not be back. He's said he wants to be back, and he just bought a nice house in Chicago. I'd bank on him being our shortstop next year. If that's the case, we may have the most potent infield in the majors. So we'd be able to go with a more OBP oriented outfield in the corners. That's all good and true, but where do the Cubs make up for the power? Nomar won't be back, and you're unlikely to replace him with a power hitter. Ditto Walker. Patterson/Pie the same. And god knows who will be in RF. Too many holes w/o power.
  18. I'd say it's a GOOD thing that his plate approach shows he wasn't brought up in the Cubs system  Why do I not accept that he's not going to make it? Because when I watch him hit, I see exactly what I want out of a player, a guy who takes what the pitcher gives him and looks for the best possible result in that at bat. In only 40 at bats, the kid has 8 walks. Far too early in his career to say he can't hit righties, I mean, the bulk of his ABs against them so far have been pinch hit at bats, give him some starts to see if he can do anything.
  19. Well, personally, if we're going to call the season a loss soon, I'd like to see Beernutz DFA'd, and see if we can move him to a contender. So in that scenario, i'd finish the year with Corey in center, Lawton in right, and Murton in left.
  20. Hey, don't knock it, I'm shocked we're getting ANYTHING for him. Must be that the Red Sox don't think they can wait 10 or however many days to just sign him. Anything we get back is a plus. Of course, Remmy will go on a hellacious tear and help pitch the Red Sox to another World Series, but hey, that's life... And I betcha he doesn't face nary a left handed batter...
  21. No way, either legitimate run at the postseason or trade all the people who won't be here next year off for whatever you can get. Why? Because if this team goes 82-80, they'll start to bring up "3 consecutive winning seasons for the first time since blah blah blah" and Dusty Baker will still be here next year. Either show some heart and win 8 or 9 in a row RIGHT NOW, or fall off.
  22. i'm fairly confident that Murton will develop into a high average and high OBP player who will hit 15 to 25 homeruns a year. Aka "a god send to this franchise"... Sorry Stoney, but you're talking out of your rear end on this one...
  23. Of the current Cubs 25 man, I'd try to move the following at this point since, barring a miracle run, the season is all but over... Burnitz - doesn't fit into our team next year I don't think, see if you can get anything of value if you eat the rest of his salary this season. Neifi - doesn't fit into our team next year as far as I'm concerned. Hollandsworth - I hate to do it, because he would be great as our 4th OF, but so long as Dusty manages this team, you have to remove the people he can't help himself from misusing. Somebody could use his talents for the stretch run. Greg Maddux - Eat the $ required to move him, he's all but done for, but probably could still suffice as the 5th guy in San Diego or Atlanta's rotations. That's about it, I don't move Corey, he has no value and if he puts it together, he will. If not, we weren't getting much back anyway. I don't move Wood, again, no value right now, let him get cut on in the offseason, try to work him back into the rotation next year, and trade him during his first injury free run. I'm not sold on Cedeno as our shortstop next year, so I see if Nomar will take $5 mil as a base for next year with incentives. I keep Walker, good player at a bargain rate for next year. Same for Glendon Rusch.
  24. I'll never give up on the Cubs as the team in the NL, but I reserve full rights to root for the A"s in the AL and root for them throughtout the playoffs should the Cubs not make the playoffs.... If only we had that organizational philosophy we'd be set. Imagine if the A's had 100 mil to work with...
