  1. Ok, hypothetical question. Lets just say that today Jim Hendry decides that the fact the Cubs don't know little league level fundementals is Dusty Bakers fault. So he fires him. Later on, he asks YOU who he should name Interim Manager. Who do you pick? This may not be a popular choice, but with only 50 some games left and the likelyhood of a postseason birth becoming more unlikely everyday, I might give Brenly a chance. Nice guy with past success, you could do worse for 50 games. Then again, maybe give Grady Little a chance to redeem himself.
  2. Actually, I think it should be "Don't give up REAL prospects", I mean, if I could trade, say, David Kelton for a quality middle reliever, I'd do it. You trade your guys who haven't panned out for those type of players, people you're not going to get anything out of but another team might hope a change of organization sparks them. But we should never, ever again trade a prospect with big league potential for a middle reliever.
  3. Yeah, the only question is which team without a moron for a manager will pick him up, use him the way he needs to be used (as in, never face a lefty) and make us cry.... Yankees i'd imagine.
  4. Then of course, there's Casey Jones, a song that the team seems to be taking WAYYYyyy too literally with the recent fielding screwups... "Driving that train, high on cocaine..."
  5. Greg Maddux, however, HAS done plenty to not deserve a rotation spot of late. I wouldn't protest a swap of Maddux & Rusch, i know it'd end Greg's Chicago tenure with bitterness AGAIN, but it saves us $9 mil next year.
  6. Funny you mention Deadheads because, as of today....Help On The Way! (only those familiar with the Grateful Dead will get that, else, ignore)
  7. Ok...why is the guy who should be the first one on the 25 man DFA'd starting????
  8. So, where's the line to start drinking away your pain? I need to get in that... Ugh.
  9. In theory, yeah, we do. We're 5 back with 55 left, we could do it. Realistically? Unless Wood/Nomar/Williamson provide a bigger spark than i'm expecting, doubtful. Our team is led by the baseball equivilant of Gomer Pyle. He'll run Williamson out there on consecutive days, who knows if the elbow will hold up. He'll probably overuse Wood from the pen, who knows if the ENTIRE FREAKING BODY will hold up. And Nomar, jeeze, who knows there. I mean, if you suddenly took Dusty out and replaced him with a master of the game, then we'd have a real shot. But with Dusty, we're a .500 team.
  10. Almost wish they'd just get rid of the deadline. There's no drama anymore with the deadline because of the wildcard, so just get rid of it. That way there's always a little drama, because you never know what team is going to really load up for the playoffs at the last minute.
  11. Yeah, it'd be recovable waivers, so you just see who all claims him, pull him back, and make a trade. That is if they have no future plans for him on the team. I'd much rather DFA Macias and mold Hairston into his role. Hairston could in theory play every position averagely like Macias does, and he'd be a ulilityman who can get on base :)
  12. No way, Pie is untouchable. I'd go Tampa Bay on anybody asking for him. I want your top 5 prospects and a big leaguer who can help right now :D
  13. If Hairston was getting himself on base, I'd defend him against being replaced with Corey. But he just isn't. We're not getting the 2004 Jerry Hairston now, we're getting the 2001 Jerry Hairston. .253/.308/.384/.692 in July. No way that Patterson doesn't top that. I think by telling Corey he might be coming back up in 7 to 10 days, hopefully you give him some incentive to really light it up down there to come on strong.
  14. Wayyyyy too early to give up on Murton, he's untouchable in my eyes. I see him turning into a 20+ homer, 80 to 90+ RBI guy, with a high average and a high on base percentage. I mean, you can't pull a kid from AA mid season and just give up on him. Tiny sample size, but in 34 big league at bats, his line is .441/.524/.559/1.083, so it's not like he isn't hitting the ball hard, just hasn't had one go out yet.
  15. You know, I love this idea, simply because I hate Macias, and McClain has always seemed to be a great guy and I'd love to get him one more taste of the big leagues.
  16. I certainly think that if we fall out of it over the next month, we should trade Greg to one of the teams still in it who need a pitcher badly. But, with the way Greg is pitching of late, I don't think we'd have to say we're moving him to the pen because of the vesting option. We'd say we're moving him to the pen because he's been inadequate as a starter.
  17. Nevermind that NOBODY is going to claim Griffey, as any trade for him would be Cincy eating a lot of money in exchange for prospects. More likely they'd let him go through and immediately try to top our offer for Griffey. Nevermind that it's not 100% sure that the players we'd give up would be on the 40 man roster, but like has been said, I think they can get around that by doing it as a PTBNL
  18. I'd bet that will heavily depend on how Corey Patterson does in the minors over the next few weeks, and how Jerry Hairston does. Assuming, you know, that Burnitz doesn't move to center, Lawton plays right, and Murton plays left :D
  19. Would like to note that Dave Roberts has been having one of the most pathetic July's I've ever seen... .109/.254/.109/.363 Seriously, the dude has put up a .363 OPS in July... NO THANKS
  20. Why oh why did I just picture a rejected Enzyte commercial? Ugh. No kidding. I will be going bannana's sunday at work. Haha. I can just picture Roast completely ignoring his boss while trying to find out if the Cubs have traded for anyone. Yea, sadly so can I. Bob (my boss): Jamie, I need you to ring this up, i'm doing a delivery. Me: #### you bob. *calls one of my friends for cubs update*
  21. So...we trade for Soriano yet? I don't think Wood would be involved, because you can't trade someone on the DL can you? Anyway, no way I include Woody in any deal for Soriano. Trade for Manny where Boston eats the $ difference for next year plus gives us a break the next two after? Sure thing. But not for Soriano. I think he is aquirable for just prospects.
  22. Too bad we can't package Holla in, move Soriano to center, and play Murton in left. I don't know, I just don't like the fact you don't play the kid with the .543 OBP :x
  23. The real answer is to deal Hollandsworth to someone with an urgent left field need (and who could use a bench player as well later). Hello Boston. Maybe we can fleece you out of the next Matt Murton  Assuming you don't get Manny Ramirez back, then you start Murton in left at least 75% of the time, and give Gerut some starts gainst righties. This is exactly what Hendry says, make the team better now and in the future. It lets the future play now, and it gets ourselves a chip for the future.
  24. Not to throw gasoline on the fire, but... http://www.rotoworld.com/includes/topblurbs.asp?sport=MLB Look down for Manny's news, he IS on the block and the Sox do want to trade him... To be honest, it would not surprise me to see a trade with the Cubs that revolves around Corey Patterson. With Damon very likely gone next year, there's Boston's replacement.
  25. Moises Alou goes to the Astros, and we don't upgrade at all, and our odds of pulling this thing out just went downhill. I still think the teams in the East will beat each other up all year and the wild card is coming out of the Central, but it doesn't help us if we're 3rd... You can't let that happen Jim, make him a Cub instead...
