  1. So long as he gets that he's just starting against EVERY FREAKING LEFTY and righties that he's killed in his career, sure.
  2. I mean, it's not rocket science. Would we really have been worse off in our 3 recent blowout with Restovich in right field, just to see if he can contribute? What's he going to do, go hitless and strike out a bunch? Oh....
  3. Man, everytime I read those lines I get more pissed. And if I were Jacque I'd be pissed. Our reaction would probably be a lot different if we were talking about his .929 OPS!
  4. This is true. If it comes a game where we need both Rusch and Ohman to pitch, we're screwed anyway. Let them alternate pitching batting practice.
  5. It's just one of those things that make you want to bang your head on a wall, to know that if we had a suitable platoon partner we'd probably be getting an .850 OPS right now out of right field. Not earth shattering production, but a lot better than we're getting instead.
  6. Pathetic. Like the article says, make a lefty BP pitcher position for 30 grand a year. You won't have too much trouble filling the spot.
  7. ...it's the fool in the dugout who doesn't realize he needs to be platooned. Here's his splits so far. Righties - .283/.320/.609/.929 Lefties - .056/.105/.056/.161 Now, EVERYONE here knew the man couldn't hit a lefty to save his life before he signed. Not his fault that Hendry paid 3/18 for a guy who needs platooned. The Cubs do nobody any good by not recognizing that the guy just isn't fit to hit lefties. It costs us games, it makes the player look like a fool and lose support, and it's just pathetic. The fact that Michael Restovich isn't getting every at bat versus lefties is a farce. So, just think of this next time before we bash him if there's a lefty on the mound. Anyone on this board has about as much of a chance of getting a hit against a lefty as Jock does. I wouldn't blame him, I'd blame the guy throwing him under the bus each time. Sad to think how much we could upgrade our offense just by bringing in a guy to hit lefties for Jock.
  8. Sell all but one box on Ebay, which should still leave you with a nice profit, and then open the last box.
  9. Uh, nevermind! (need to work less at work and keep up on all this, lol)
  10. Williams has options, correct? Send down Jerome, bring up Rich Hill. Perhaps bring up Wuertz for Aardsma. Rusch can be the longman/inning eater. Jerome can keep pitching regularly versus AAA hitters and try to get his groove back. We have reason to hope that Jerome can rebound. So he should be the one to go down and keep starting. Rusch just gets moved to "last guy on the bullpen bench".
  11. Unless you can get one of those for a low A ball prospect, just wait to get Carlos for free.
  12. They should have had a 1 per person limit on the desirable stuff for the first two hours or so. After that, anything left you can have as much as you want.
  13. Want to thank Daske for picking up a brick for me, that was insanely nice of you man! It might seem weird to the lucky bastards who settled into Chi-town, but for a guy who grew up between 50 mile stretches of corn fields, hehe, saying "I own a piece of Wrigley Field" is something I'll be proud of for a long time to come! Just to imagine the history.
  14. What we want is someone who we won't mind having as a bat off of the bench when DLee is back. Choi or Pena would qualify in my mind. And neither would cost us much.
  15. Who cares. Murton is a good kid, he'll think "yeah, I'll be more aggressive...if I magically get more good pitches. I don't like to fail"
  16. You were probably kidding, but I'd do that long before I'd bring in Raffy. Julio is rotting on the bench for the Mets, only 7 at bats so far. At age 48, we're a bit beyond saying "well, his skills will fall apart with age real soon". After Derrek is back he'd be a great bat off of the bench. And probably a tradeable commodity around that time if another team has a hole open up at first base. And his contract is just 2 years, 2.2 million. I'd at least make the call and find out the price.
  17. Without his permission, that is. Incredibly long shot of this going down, but I could see it.
  18. Anyone else see this on cubs.com? They're going to have a "garage sale" where you can buy old bricks from wrigley, flags, etc. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060420&content_id=1409750&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc If there is anything there reasonable (I don't know, how much are they going to sell a damn brick for?), something in the 30 buck range or so, and someone is going and willing to pick me something up and work out a mailing, you'd have a new friend! Just private message me if anyone might be able to.
  19. I think that if Greg has a good season, we should resign him. One year contract with a team option for a second year, or a million buck buyout.
  20. I sure hope Michael keeps this up, looks like it might be his turn for a breakout year. I'm getting more and more confident of a comeback for Greg Maddux. He just looks to be in better shape, more confident, his pitches are dancing and he's hitting his spots. I don't think an ERA below 3.5 is impossible. Maybe lower.
  21. It's as simple as this. Mark McGwire does not hold, nor is he chasing, any record that anyone gives a crap about. Barry Bonds both holds, and is chasing, records that people give a crap about. And that is the reason for the fan and media attention on his actions. This case, however, has nothing to do with that. The question is did Barry Bonds commit perjury? With what's come out in Game Of Shadows, it's sure looking more and more like he did. Highly doubt this goes to trial though, Barry would likely retire and quietly plea bargain himself out of any real penalty, legal wise that is. I'm sure he'll be banned from baseball after that.
  22. The starting pitcher in my sig would look better than Rusch
  23. To me, this is one that could go either way, he did spend about half of his career at each. If he were to win a World Series with us this year, that really shakes things up. Honestly, I hope they listen to what he's feeling, and put him in with that hat...
  24. If that's true, then by all means hold off.
  25. Call up Pie. A two week cup of coffee isn't going to hurt his progression, and the way he's hit this spring and so far in AAA, he may be ready. Although, typing that, Murton better keep going. I could see Jones replacing him when he's better if Pie is raking.
