  1. And honestly, if the last bullpen spot comes down to Roberto Novoa or LaTroy Hawkins, who do you go with?
  2. Not for a second, we could trade him again, or let him settle into middle relief.
  3. I tell you, if good will between the organization after the Sammy trade (where we were more than fair, paid the guy to play for them and took back just Hairston and a couple throw-away prospects) gets us Miggy, all is forgiven! I'd start with Williams, Hill, and Cedeno, and be prepared to throw one more chip in if I had too. Sadly, they saw that the Marlins got 3 pitchers out of us for Pierre, they'll probably want 3 and Cedeno to fill in for Miggy.
  4. While you're dreaming BbB why not send them a manager too? I'd settle for swapping pitching coaches. Jeeze....I forgot Leo went to Baltimore. Let's see him do wonders for Hill and Williams. As long as said wonders are in the AL, and Miggy performs, I could care less what we send out of the minors. :D And please, lets not let the "send them a manager" boat sail too fast...if that's the dealbreaker, pack your bags Mr. Baker. In fact, lets just add that to the deal to be safe
  5. For some reason I really think this one will pan out. I would argue we're the perfect fit. They'll need a MLB ready shortstop to replace Miggy. Hello Ronny Cedeno (hate to see you go kid, but that's life). They're dieing for pitching. Hello Jerome Williams and Rich Hill. Another player maybe and we've got a deal (Corey perhaps?). Land Tejada, and I'll worry a lot less about which retread we get in right field, because that retread would be filling the six hole. Pierre Walker Lee Tejada Ramirez Jones/Encarncion/whoever Murton Barrett Lethal. Freaking lethal.
  6. I wonder if 5 million dollars would change his mind? Give him the money in unmarked bills in a garbage bag on his way to Philly. And if he don't take that, we have Joe Pesci bury him someplace. You don't messa with da family
  7. Good point, he could jettison Tejada, and blame any loss in attendance on the Nats and get his money anyway. Here's a plumb crazy thought, hehe. Tejada at shortstop, sign Encarncion (unless Bradley is still cheap), and sign a little known ballplayer named Sammy Sosa, who is supposadly Tejada's friend, to be the 4th outfielder, and who knows, maybe he beats Encarncion out for the job  (kidding, kidding, I know they supposadly had a falling out and Mabry will be our RF before Sammy ever is again  )
  8. Because, as JeffH just said, Vidro is owed $23 million dollars. Lot of money to pay a guy to never play again. Sorry, pass, we can do better than Vidro. How about NOT trading Todd Walker?
  9. look at the bright side, Pierre means that Neifi will never hit leadoff again... And that is a GOOD thing
  10. I'm going to imagine that Vince Coleman will not be working with Corey Patterson this spring
  11. Now THAT might make it a great trade, Mitre is kept (I still think he could be a part of a trade to the Reds for Dunn or, if you have to settle, Kearns, he'd do great in that park) and you get someone else back? Sign me up.
  12. I'm just glad we got SOMEBODY who is meant to pick up a bat  Anyway, all in all I'm happy. We've got a legit leadoff hitter. He had a down year last year, but I think the infield grass at Wrigley is going to do wonders for Pierre. I'll call it now, I expect a .310/.360 line or better. And if I'm wrong, hey, who ever said I knew jack **** ? hehe
  13. If by "close the deal early" you mean "offer him $13 mil first" then, no thanks. We did things the right way, his agent set a starting price, we offered it, blowing the closest competing offer off the table. No way do I go over 5/50. Not a chance. The Dodgers came out of nowhere, and it was game over. We couldn't forsee a [expletive] with a checkbook coming to the dance... And again, on the Pierre front, if you mean "close the deal early" by including Pie or something, no thanks. Until Pierre is dealt we haven't messed that one up.
  14. I want Walker in the 2 hole. Join the Florida Everything Must Go Fire Sale, get Pierre, and then sell what you have to so you can bring in a real right fielder. Dunn/Abreu/Manny, my order of preference. If it takes Corey for Manny straight up, us taking on his contract, I do it (though i hope if you throw, say, Hill into it, they'll eat a bunch of cash). We can afford that payroll next year. Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno I'll take it
  15. Lets give ol' Rafeal the benefit of the doubt, and say he's going to put up career high numbers next year. Lets say .295/.360/.450/.810 At $13 million per, that is $16,049 per POINT of OPS... Heh, he'll look good at short though midseason when the Dodgers are tanking, and we trade for him and make them eat half his yearly salary...
  16. I don't get why what we did with Nomar was so bad, we were respectful enough to admit our first priority was Furcal and that he should see what else is available. Now that Furcal is gone, I don't see why he wouldn't sign if we wanted him.
  17. Not to be lazy, but has there been anymore verification to there being a done deal other than the LA Times?
  18. Eh, Pierre can be acceptable with a 2nd tier bat in right field, under the right circumstances. Such as, the following is acceptable to me Pierre Walker Lee Nixon Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno as is the following Pierre Walker Lee Bradley Ramirez Murton Barrett Cedeno Not that either is perfect, but if we have best in league pitching, that can win for us.
  19. Nixon in RF is only acceptable to me if we upgrade CF. If we go 2nd tier in RF, we can't settle for Corey in center. If we got Pierre/Bradley/hell Lofton in CF, I can live with Nixon. Presuming we also sign a lefty smasher who also plays RF to be the 4th OF...
  20. Well, if the choice for Nomar is us or Pittsburgh, much better to make the MLB team than the AAAA team
  21. Nevermind the fact that I'm happy with Furcal for a few pitching prospects (plus the Dodgers eating money) at midseason when they realize they signed an $8 mil per year player for $13
  22. Sweet, Furcal isn't worth more than $10 mil per season. No way do I top 13. Keep Walker (stupid to let him go anyway), and if we upgrade CF and RF, then I"m content with whatever happens at SS (much happier if it's Cedeno than Perez). I want Bradley by the end of the winter meetings (don't take a chance on a non tender, trade for him) and an impact bat in right soon after (Abreu or Dunn, IMHO). Do that and we're set. Heaven forbid Walker and his OBP leads off...
  23. I would have loved to have had Beltran, he's going to put up a .900 + OPS for a long time to come. That's a hell of a line to get out of center field. But, I don't value that at 7 years, $119 million. He wanted to make his fortune, he found a group of idiots, good for him. I'd gladly take him on my team today if New York decides to try to save a little bit of the money they've wasted
  24. What the hell are they thinking? Can we let em have him and trade for Lugo? The entire Dodgers organization are Morans. I'm of the mind that if we're going to trade for a position, our focus should NOT be at shortstop. Right field first, Center Field second, and then shortstop. I'm not comfortable with trusting Center Field to Corey or Hairston unless we upgrade both short and right field. If we can't get Furcal, I want right field addressed quickly (big stick, Dunn/Abreu, that caliber), and if you don't get an All Star caliber player, then you better upgrade center field (Pierre in trade, or Lofton even as a rental). If we don't land Furcal, we're perfectly fine having Ronny Cedeno as shortstop and Todd Walker at second base. So long as you upgrade right field, and if it isn't a huge impact, it's time to move on from Corey.
