  1. Agreed. And I am sure what a GM did almost 20 years ago has zero affect on what a different GM does now. Even if it was an epic fail (and as has been pointed out, it wasn’t) there is no reason to use that as an excuse not signing long term deals now. Never mind since then, Jed has been a part of even organization who signed Heyward, Lester, Darvish and Swanson to deals of 6 or more years. After the bad Heyward contract Darvish and Swanson were signed.
  2. What was the issue with Soriano’s contract? He pretty much played to it, didn’t he. Besides, what does what two different GM’s do (in one case, over a decade ago and the other 2 decades) have to do with what Hoyer does now?
  3. It matters some if he is a starter. But even as just a pen arm, if no one thinks he can start, he gets more than 2/$12M..
  4. If Keller only gets 2/$12M he better get it from the Cubs and better have a deal today. There is NO CHANCE that is what he gets.
  5. But why are you even using those when they are clearly not correct? Do you really think Keller is going to get $1.8M for one year? After seeing what others have signed for do you really think Keller is going to sign 2/$12M or Fairbanks 3/$44M. Assuming you agree those are not correct why would you default to these numbers?
  6. 👍 ok, thanks for letting me know.
  7. I’m thinking he is banned. But not sure. I have him in my ignore list. Is it safe yet??? Also, is anyone else having issues with pop ups. I am getting a crazy amount making it almost impossible to chat.
  8. Maybe seeing what others are getting and reports of what is being discussed. Thors projections are useless. Both will cost more than those projections of crowd source. And does spotrac really show Keller at $1.8M for 1 year? Or is that $18M? Regardless, neither makes sense and Fairbanks for 3/$44M is a bit much too.
  9. Why is he better on cost to production? I think Keller is going to cost more and possibly a longer deal. Not arguing on ability, but we know the Cubs do a lot of things cost driven.
  10. Or do what I did and ignore.
  11. If they don’t end up with a FA pitcher and end up trading Shaw for Gore, Cabrera or Ryan and then sign Keller or Fairbanks and Okamato, how would that off season look? I don’t see Bregman as an option in any scenerio. Same with Bichette. But if they did trade for one of those pitchers they should have enough money for at least one more good pen arm and also Okamato.
  12. Have to hope they are all in on Imai. But then Jed can’t get scared away by the price or the length of the contract.
  13. Agreed. I don’t think the Cubs thought they could get King or Imai under $20M a year. Maybe each is closer to $23M. I think the years are the bigger hang up. Maybe King for 4 and Imai for 7. That is, IMO the bigger issue. Will they go that long for either? Or they need to make a trade for a pitcher.
  14. What is happening? I put someone in my ignore list and I am still seeing posts by him. I see his name on my list and yet still seeing posts. WHY?????
  15. Me too. Not even fun to come here any longer.
  16. Weaver wouldn’t be bad….. I guess.
  17. I miss arguing about the Cubs. Can we get that back and just ignore the rest.
  18. With Jansen signing the Cubs are down to Fairbanks or bringing Keller back. Maybe Kopech. Not sure I consider him a high end pen arm. As far as starting pitchers go, has to be King or Imai. I don’t see them in on Suarez of Valdez. If not either of them are we looking at Giolito types? Most expensive bat I can see them even considering is Okamato. But it will probably be someone less expensive. This could very well turn into a very disappointing off season. The only way I see them upping the ante in the pen or with a bat is if they trade for the starting pitcher. It could still end well, but a lot of work to do and a lot of potential roadblocks.
  19. Weren’t you leaving. This is the longest goodbye ever. I mean, I don’t care either way about you, but if you truly are going…..GO ALREADY.
  20. Cubs need to land one of those two or have a trade for a pitcher ready to go.
  21. I understand the flaws in long term contracts. But major market teams should have enough resources to work around the last few years if those sort of deals. Yes, they normally look bad at the end. So I guess that principle is less egregious than their refusal to spend money beyond the LT line. However, Cuzi is correct, both are stupid. Maybe not equally stupid, but stupid, none the less.
  22. Honestly, just hoping we come away with one of Imai or King and then another pen arm. (Keller, Fairbanks or if we have to aim lower, Kopech). Then add a bat who can hit left handed pitching well, and fill in with lesser guys. I seriously doubt Bregman is a possibility. Wish Okamato is, but I think he will cost too much. Maybe if they get King and Kopech he is an option. 🤷
  23. Actually all that needed to be said was what you said in your response. I errored by not acknowledging he wouldn’t have ever gotten that sort of deal so the Dodgers shouldn’t have to pay tax on $70M. I appreciate your response.
  24. You can explain with sounding so condescending. And I get all of what you are saying. That said, for whatever reason certain players want their contracts to look bigger than they actually are. Ohtani, as an example. And if agreeing to it doesn’t hurt the team in any way, why not do it for the player. Yes, my example of Ohtani making $70M over $42M(which you corrected me, should be $46M) is something that would never happen, because if there were no deferrals that figure would never be discussed. But honestly that is all you has to say instead of giving condescending replies. Just because you start it with “all due respect” doesn’t make your comments disrespectful.
