  1. But it isn’t pointless really. If I think he is a #2 and someone else says they think he is a #3, you and everyone else here understands I think he is better than the other guy does. Used that way, it has a purpose.
  2. Yes, once the season starts just have guys who can go out every 5th game. But there is a reason to call someone a #2 or #4. Just a way of suggesting how good you think a player is. If the Cubs are talking to the pirates about Skenes they are looking for a #1 and an ace. If they are talking to them about Keller they are looking for a MOR starter or a possible #3. Used as just a guide to determine a guys talent,’it has a place. Less meaningful during the season.
  3. Doesn’t matter how long I have been up, if I fell asleep during this game it would be a miracle.
  4. I think the idea of Gore is to raise the ceiling. Again, I understand people having issue with Gore. I’m not totally sold on him either. But if the Cubs traded for him it would be because they believe there is more there. And he could be a #1.
  5. Honestly, I didn’t think we would get much substance. Been an “inside the clubhouse” listener a long time. They like teasing people into thinking they have info to share and then don’t really have anything.
  6. Right. I forgot about the opt out options. This is a terrible deal for any team except the Padres. We obviously know worst case scenerio is him getting hurt and having him on payroll for 3 years. But really what is best case? If he pitches well you have him one year and he is gone. You lose a second round pick and IFA money for one year of King. Just not a good idea.
  7. Exact mindset of this FO. And wrong to do this every time, for a major market. Why do they have to shop the discount aisle? Why can’t they shop luxury every so often? Sure you can name a few guys that fell and where signed SHORT TERM to cheap deals. But what about all players missed while waiting for them to drop. You just don’t get the star players for several years with that mindset. And as a major market team you should always be in on the stars. Won’t get them all, but should at least try for a guy if they really want him.
  8. Gore? He is a 3 at best and closer to a 4? I get some people concerns about him, but you go too far here.
  9. It could be too much for King, in the Cubs FO opinion. Not too much to spend on any pitcher.
  10. I don’t agree with this. Sure in some instances someone falls and you get a good deal. But more often than not patience results in not getting a guy you really want. And it isn’t how a large market team should act. The best FA move by the Cubs last year was probably Boyd. They jumped the market for him. Maybe for low budget guys waiting works. Maybe you have several in the same class and end up taking a guy who fell, late. But generally patience isn’t rewarded when talking big ticket signings. And for once, if the Cubs really want someone I would like to see them just get him not wait for the last man standing.
  11. Honestly, whoever owns the team shouldn’t get any of your money if you are going to punish the owners based on their political views. Most owners are republican. I don’t agree either them but I am not going to punish myself and not do things I love doing just to make some sort of point. Honestly, me not going to a game just means someone else will go.
  12. Yep, it confused me too. But I got it. Like the site much better without him. Now if only people wouldn’t white him it would be even better.
  13. ok, that’s fair. Lets call it a combination of 2021 Wisdom and 2024 Turner.
  14. Really? Not me. I think if they got Imai and were sitting around $16M under the high spending would be done. Maybe they give out a $5M contact to a pen arm or bench bat, but that isn’t. I expect them to be $7M to $10M under. I absolutely understand the arguments why they should go over and why this year is different. But until they actually do it I can’t be surprised they don’t.
  15. Going strictly off on ML stats he is pretty much Patrick Wisdom. Under 600 PA and 215 K’s. 33 homers in 522 AB. Low .200’s BA with high”ish” slugging. Not sure if we can use Japan numbers to suggest less K’s or less power. Also not sure it is fair to compare state stats from 5 years ago, so who really knows🤷. I am hoping for a better Wisdom. Maybe 25% K’s and as you said, hits 10+ homers. Maybe more, depending on the amount of AB he gets. Regardless, hoping for a Turner upgrade.
  16. Thanks. I agree with 1,2, & 4. And trust you on 3. 😬 That distinction I was not familiar with. That actually makes me feel even more confident about Imai. But they might have to go to the highest contract they ever gave anyone to get him. Which is fine by me.
  17. Sounds like he is more Patrick Wisdom than Justin Turner. But that would be an improvement over last year.
  18. I feel decent about their chances with Imai. But, what do you mean by “better understanding of the operating procedures of the Cubs”? What have you learned to be true? This is not to challenge you. It is for me to learn something.
  19. While “disaster” might be a bit overboard, Cubs are not that far from ending up with a very disappointing off season. TBH, even if they got Imai and did nothing else with a good pen arm it wouldn’t be a great off season. And they are not sure to get Imai. Personally, I think the Cubs will get him. I agree with Jason’s take on it. If Jed didn’t get King short term he has to feel pretty good about Imai. But they really went low on the bench and low in relief. So even with Imai, who is their best case scenario, it wouldn’t be a great off season. Still more to go and I am hopeful. Would getting Imai and stopping there constitute a solid off season? I don’t think so. I would place it at “fair”.
  20. I am sure that is all it is. Really a cheap signing to hopefully give them a bench bat who can hit lefties. 🤷
  21. 👍
  22. Is this because you saw something else reporting cubs and Yankees the only 2 options, or are you catching up on our talk for a few pages? Any new reports?
  23. Is it his “apparent preference “ or did he mean it to suggest another Japanese player on the team was not something he needed? I believe Jason suggested that was what he meant. He meant it to mean that it was not a prerequisite that there was another Japanese player on the team, not there can’t be one.
  24. Ok, but what does have to do with my post? Why quote me?
  25. Couple of things, First the .9 WAR would have to be above the WAR the guy whose place the guy we got for Nico. Is taking. Then we have to replace rhe 2.9 WAR we lose with Shaw. And as someone else pointed out, this is provided players play to their projections. Personally think Hoerner will do more and not sure Shaw gets to that number.
