  1. Right. Either Bregman or Bichette to play 3rd. Then trade for Cabrera. Solid off season. Not likely, but it does work.
  2. I think if they got Bichette he would play 3rd, so he doesn’t have to be better than Nico. Unless, of course, Nico trade rumors turned out to be real.
  3. Gallen wouldn’t be my first choice, but I disagree that he doesn’t fit the narrative on improving the staff, I also would rather make a trade, but Gallen would be a solid pick up. Thr issue is they then won’t have enough to add a bat. And I don’t see many available in a trade.
  4. So losing out on Imai, Cubs had to have a plan B ready, right? So moves should start soon, if there are to be any.
  5. I think 40% chance as good is very optimistic.
  6. Yep, trade for a pitcher and sign a proven bat would be my preference. I am not optimistic the do that, however.
  7. Oh, I am not optimistic they do this. I am saying the need to in order to improve their team. I have little confidence they will do it.
  8. This is very possible. I think it is a BS excuse by ownership to not spend money. But it might be what they do.
  9. I think you could be right. But if it starts in year 3, fine. It is after one year that is crazy.
  10. If the Cubs don’t spend on a pitcher they better get one of the top 4 hitters available.
  11. Or for 1 year and he opts out.
  12. Is his posting fee $30M?
  13. So then $21M a year isn’t close to $16M a year.
  14. I read he gets $1M if he gets to 80 innings, another $1M at 90 and another at 100. Has that been reported incorrectly? Thr issue is the structure. Not the money, IMO.
  15. I wanted Imai too. But not if he can opt out after one year. That is a deal breaker to me and apparently the Cubs FO. I am fine with that. But now they need to do something else. There is time and players there. So let’s go!!!!!
  16. If that is your take on his actual deal compared to what you suggested, fine. Your right. You were very close. We just have to not pay any attention to the actual structure of the deal and then your guess was so, so close.
  17. Nico will cost a lot more than he is making now. But willl any others? I would think Happ would be close to the same. Maybe Suzuki too. Not saying I want all those guys, but I am not doom and gloom for 2027 and beyond. That said, I agree that it does not make sense to sign Imai to the deal he got. That is one more pitcher who can be a FA. Not a good spot.
  18. I like the idea of signing Bregman and trading for a starting pitcher. Maybe even a similar deal the Cubs did long ago when they traded Cashner for Rizzo. Use Cassie and see what young pitcher you can get. Soriano? Weathers? Something like that. Or, put a package together for Cabrera. Either works for me.
  19. Not really. The deal he got is much better than what you suggested. Way more player friendly. He isn’t locked into $64M over 4 years. It is only close if he sucks. And I don’t blame Jed for not agreeing to an opt out after 1 year.

  21. They can keep Shaw and still sign Bregman. Shaw is utility for a year and then goes to second base. I am pretty sure this isn’t going to happen. But if it did it wouldn’t mean they don’t believe in Shaw.
  22. I am sure people did not see Boyd that was last year.
  23. Also, if he isn’t going to get another starter he should have spend more on a better relief pitcher and/or needs to spend big on a bat. We shall see what he does.🤷
  24. If this were true they would have given Imai a contract where he can get out after one year. Wouldn’t that have played into what you say their plan is?
  25. That is possible. Plus if you believe Steele will come back, Horton will be in the rotation all year and Wiggins can be this years Horton, you can see the FO having that opinion. I don’t. I think they have to get someone else. But if the FO believes this then they better sign a big bat. Bichette/Bregman/Bellinger/Tucker all need to be in play.
