  1. 🤷maybe. I believe there is more to it than that. But if there are people who believe the earth is flat, I guess there can be people who believe all reports are just fiction.
  2. So reporters would assume they would rather replace Shaw’s bat at 3rd, instead of getting a quality bat anywhere that can DH and take Cassie or Mo spot in the line up? Again, I am not arguing what the Cubs are doing. I am saying if the reports are they are looking at Bregman, Suarez or one of the Japanese 3rd baseman, that is not reporters assuming that is obviously what they would do. That is reporters reporting on what they have heard they are doing.
  3. My argument isn’t “why would the Cubs be looking at a 3rd baseman over an outfielder”? It is why would reporters assume that is the case But really the reason for the response is the second part of your post. What is all smoke and mirrors to convince Miami the Cubs are about to pull off a trade with Seattle?
  4. That isn’t the point. The point is reporters aren’t just spouting out names because they assume the Cubs want to add a 3rd baseman. Names are out because the Cubs are looking at 3rd baseman. We haven’t heard about outfielders because the Cubs aren’t talking about them.
  5. If the Cubs added a big bat at 3rd he would be taking Shaw’s spot in the line up. If they added a big bat in the outfield he would be replacing Cassie. Again, why would reporters assume the Cubs want to replace Shaw but not Cassie?
  6. It’s not. Reporters aren’t assuming what the Cubs are looking for. They might not end up with anyone they are being said to be interested in. But this isn’t just guessing at what the Cubs might do.
  7. Why would they go after a 3rd baseman if they have Shaw but not go after an outfielder because they have Cassie. That doesn’t make any sense. I have reservations about the Cubs actually getting a 3rd baseman, but I doubt it is strictly an assumption by reporters.
  8. He would be my target.and if Shaw is more valuable, maybe the deal is expanded to add a marlins pen arm. Maybe the Cubs even it up with a spare (Assad) pitcher or a proper minor leaguer to even the deal.
  9. I think Ryan and Gore have the same thing going against them. With 27 in question is trading Shaw for either really a good idea? Yiu might only get 1 year out of them. One reason I like Cabrera better. At least he comes with 3 years of control. Do the Angels need a 3rd baseman? How would Shaw for a Soriano and Detmer look? Who adds and what is needed. Cubs get a starung pitcher with upside but also a lefty pen arm.
  10. Agreed. And to add to this, the people complaining about not running early or not running on 4th down with a yard to go at the end of the game are the same people who would complain if he ran 5 of 6 plays and went nowhere early, or ran up the middle and got stopped on 4th down late in the game. Everyone watching a game think they know better. Some feel the need to vent to show how smart they are. Johnson is the best offensive mind we have had in Chicago. No, I don’t agree with all his plays. But I don’t pretend to know more than him either. Even the 4th down play. Caleb could have taken it for the first down and got out of bounds. He also had Moore right in front of him for a 1st down. Had he done either, Bears might have won and no one would say a word about the “bad call” Johnson made.
  11. horsefeathers. Had Caleb thrown a TD pass on the last play you wouldn’t be calling it a bad call. That is just after the fact horsefeathers. Also, not running on 3rd and 11 from the 41 isn’t a bad call. Sure, he should have ran more early, but that doesn’t qualify as a bad play call. He scripted the first several plays. It didn’t work. Thats all there is to it. Judging coaches because something doesn’t work will result in every coach having numerous bad plays called.
  12. What 3 mistakes did he make?
  13. Calling Bertz positive was not an insult. I would much rather read positive takes. Especially ones that are realistic. I never suggested he was unreasonably over optimistic. Yes, King makes a lot of sense. And he fits nicely. Now, Cubs need to make it happen.
  14. Love reading your takes. Always positive. Always also realistic. Problem is seldom does the FO think like you. They absolutely should spend more money and even go over the dust LT line. They can easily reset next year. Problem is they won’t. To your point regarding them possibly eyeing a low salary trade target. I would much rather it be Cabrera or someone else with 3 years or more of control left, instead of Ryan or Gore. With a pending lockout in 27, I would rather be sure they have a guy for 28 too.
  15. They needed 10 yards to get in FG range.
  16. Agreed. I think the best the Bears can hope for is an incomplete pass.
  17. So far we have heard the Cubs are interested in E. Suarez, Gallen, Bregman, King, Imai, R Suarez, Fairbanks and of course Cease. I would bet we will hear Bichette soon. What we won’t hear is Tucker. Probably not Schwarber, Alonso or Bellinger, either. However, I would be surprised if they came away with any of these guys. In some cases I expect we will find out they never even offered them a contract. They will probably end up with something like Goldy, Refsynder, Giolito and maybe Weaver.
  18. He will most likely get 5 or 6 years, I would guess🤷. When it is all said and done I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs never were in on him.
  19. Being honest, I don’t see the Cubs getting Bregman either. But he isn’t getting $35M a year for 7 years. But this discussion was specifically what would happen if the did get him. My guess is he doesn’t even get over $30M a year unless it is heavily deferred. And he isn’t getting 7 years. Most likely 5, but maybe a team adds a 6th year. If the Cubs want to get a good starting pitcher for a lower salary I can see Cassie or Mo dealt. Not Shaw, unless Bregman was added. And, we both agree that’s unlikely.
  20. Well we are in a thread talking about trading for Bregman. So there would be a bat added. I also think they will deal at least one young bat to add something else. We are not going to see Alcantara, Cassie, Mo, and Long all in the line up with Shaw after this year. At least I hope we aren’t.
  21. I would rather keep Shaw too. This is only talked about if the Cubs did sign Bregman. IMO that would lead to a Shaw trade. The same reasons you would rather keep Shaw and trade Cassie or Mo, is why Shaw was mentioned more at the TDL. Back to the original point, if the Cubs did sign Bregman I would assume there is a trade coming for a young pitcher. Who knows who they have to trade to get that pitcher.
  22. Wow, I wouldn’t have guessed that. Actually that makes him more valuable. Maybe it would take just Shaw and one of the pitchers for someone. Save Cassie, Mo and Long.
  23. That’s fair. But to get a controlled potentially front end starter the cost is going to be high. One advantage Cabrera has is he has 3 years of control to Shaw’s 5. (Didn’t Shaw lose one year of control last year?)
  24. Then you must really like Shaw and you also aren’t getting any of those pitchers.
