  1. I don’t agree with this. They tried. So what if they finished 4th or 2nd? We don’t know the money. We don’t know the reasons. If SF finished 3rd that is still in California and still someplace he might be more comfortable playing. He might not like the media attention. Of the 4 Chicago has the most media around their team. I just don’t see this as suggesting the Cubs look bad in this. And, I have been on the other side against Jed and Ricketts in the past. This is just not a time I can criticize them.
  2. Or they can make a smallish trade for Polanco to play 3rd. Also, and j hate bringing this up, but, Morel is playing third in the DR. He can be an option. And finally they can do a bigger deal and try getting Glasnow and Lowe. And he can play 3rd. I don’t feel it has to be Chapman or Madrigal. if they can get Lowe or even Polanco and still have Morel they would actually have a decent line up.
  3. He said last decade. When did Kershaw come up?
  4. Honestly I was drawing a blank. That said, Cubs brought up Bryant, Schwarber, Steele, Alzolay the last decade. Of those guys the only useful ones for the Dodgers last year were Smith and Outman. I agree the Dodgers farm system has been better, but the Cubs are on the rise. I also agree with you on Muncy and J, Turner. Dodgers do have a way of picking guys up and turning them into assets.
  5. Who are the “studs” they Dodgers produced the last decade?
  6. Not many. Sorry but I can’t blame the Cubs for not getting him at that figure.
  7. Time to start the off season for the Cubs. Honestly can’t fault them for not getting Ohtani. That is a crazy deal. They would have never added to him had he signed that here.
  8. If they did get 2 of the 3 I would hope it was Bellinger and Hoskins. They need a left handed bat.
  9. True, but offense has to come somewhere. If he is going to be in the line up he hits 9th, the catcher 8th. You need a solid 7.
  10. You beat me to this. I was going to say the same thing. I don’t think a reputable sports reporter is going to report anything until it is 100% official.
  11. Honestly I don’t love the idea of spending $20M on a closer. And, if somehow, they do get Ohtani I don’t see them spending that kind of money for a closer. But they might if they don’t sign Ohtani.
  12. How about a $20M arm(Hader)?
  13. As long as they don’t sit still for another month and miss out on other moves, sure. But I don’t want them silent for a month as moves are made by other teams. Then end up not getting Ohtani. Or even getting him but not being able to add around him because the moves they wanted to make are no longer there.
  14. I have been there the last few days. I mean, sure I would love it if the Cubs for him. But time to move on to other things.
  15. La Scarola is ALWAYS booked. Try the steak vesuvio. Amazing!!!!
  16. I guess that could be a reason. Pretty weak if you ask me. How many players do the Cubs lose because they fear the elements?
  17. If I could type on my phone and you read my entire post, you would see I know they play in a dome.
  18. He picked Toronto. Do you really think their weather is better? I know they have a dome so at least in games he is fine. But day to day life he will have the same weather as Chicago.
  19. This was something I said days ago. If he picked the Jays that tells me their FO did a better sales pitch than the Cubs. That is disappointing.
  20. I am not pissed at Jed for not getting Ohtani. It was an uphill battle and we lost. Maybe Ohtani likes a little less media attention so he went with Toronto over Chicago. Jed can’t do anything about that. Where I have concern is Jed’s comment about winning the off season. To me he is telling the fan base he isn’t winning the off season. So, more of the same from last year. I don’t doubt he will put a competitive team one the field next year. I am just worried he won’t put a 90+ win team on the risks. Between the comment about winning the off season and him hinting that he doesn’t want to block minor league talent, it doesn’t give me a lot of hope he plans on being aggressive. Hopefully he can be agbresssive and still not block young talent. But I am concerned.
  21. Any non Ohtani rumor is good to see.
  22. We are going nowhere with this. Let me ask you this. Are you in favor of the Cubs giving Ohtani a 10+!year deal? Answer only that question, yes or no. And if it is no, how do you expect the Cubs to get him if others are giving those years? It’s just not realistic to say the Cubs should give him a 7 or & year deal and he should take that over 10-12 years.
  23. I agree with this. IMO they should make these moves regardless of Ohtani. So do it and move on with or without Ohtani.
  24. True but they would have $55M less a year to work with.
  25. The problem with it not being the Dodgers is now the Dodgers become bigger threats to everything thr Cubs may want to do. If the Cubs really wanted JD Martinez, pretty sure the Dodgers could beat them out. Or the Dodgers now go in on Glasnow. Again, more competition. Yamamoto, the other Japanese pitcher, ext…. Dodgers are competition.
