    Turner isn’t going away. It has been mentioned numerous times by several players, coaches and even the FO what a great teammate and presence Turner is in the team. Releasing him would upset the team chemistry and frankly he isn’t playing that poorly to be released. I am fine with that. But that doesn’t mean they can’t add Burger for Berti. With Shaw and Nico the Cubs could move guys around to give everyone a day off, every so often, and get AB for Burger at 3rd when they do sit a middle infielder. And still have Turner. That said, I don’t think the focus is going to be on the bench. I think it is being overblown here as some major need. If Long or any other guy at AAA is worthy of a spot on the bench it will come after the minor league season. So they can give them a full year there but still have them for the playoffs. I don’t think you will see both Berti and Brujan on the bench come playoff time. One will be replaced by another bat, whether through a trade or a promotion AFTER the minor league season ends.

    Both are coming back to reality. Neither is a bad team. But neither is a high 80 win team either.

    Cubs lost 2 of 3 in Philly and gained a game on the Cardinals. Also stayed the same with Milwaukee who were at home against the Braves. So all is not too bad.

    Also, counting today, since Shaw has come back (21 games) Turner, Brujan and Berti have had 40 PA. Of those 40, Turner (who they are not replacing) had 31 of them. So we are talking about 9 PA from Berti and Brujan in that time. Sure, if they were better maybe they would have a few more. But with the DH the bench becomes less important.

    Since Shaw has come back how many AB has the trio of Turner, Berti and Brujan had? I don’t know how to see stats of all teams bench, but I did take a look at the Yankees bench. I don’t see it any better than the Cubs. I agree they can upgrade for either Brujan or Berti. I just don’t think it will be nearly as big a deal as getting a solid starting pitcher. And, if they didn’t get someone for the bench it wouldn’t upset me all too much. Again, there isn’t much out there.

    It doesn’t. But since we are revisiting the Cubs series up until now, they also took 2 of 3 from the Rangers when the Rangers were 8-2 coming into the series. But since they are now under 500 apparently that doesn’t count as a good series win.

    But that’s the thing. If it shouldn’t be that hard to upgrade the bench why do so many teams have terrible benches. I am just not sure it is as easy or as warranted as you suggest. Yes, I would love to add a solid bat. But to me all rhe resurces need to go to pitching. If they can get a guy cheap who can hit a bit, great. I just don’t think it is as easy as you suggest.

    You have been suggesting upgrading the bench for years. But never give us an example of who they should go after and at what cost. Who are they going to get for the 100 AB they have for him? They are not cutting Turner and they have to have a back up catcher. So what infielder/outfieler can they get? How many teams have this random stud bench bat? Jed basically said he likes the offense. He will be working on pitching.

    I’m actually not a fan of it either. But very average is a guy who is a starting pitcher in the majors. #4 guy on a decent team. I think a stat for QS is ok to have. But is should probably be either 6 innings and 2 runs or 3 runs in 7 innings. Regardless, he isn’t getting a QS anyway. Kyle made sure of that.

    I am sure Alcantara would be a better option. The problem is I think the Cubs want to get him AB. He won’t get them on the bench in the majors.

    Except he is left handed. I would think they would want a right handed bat for PCA every once in a while. But maybe not. Yes he is a good bench player.

    I agree that Berti and Brujan are redundant. Get rid of one of them and get a right handed hitting outfielder who can play center.

    Len said he always wanted to do radio broadcasting. He wasn’t going to do it as long as Hughes was around. I don’t think it was him hating Marquee so much as it was he wanted to be the radio voice.As a side note, I find all this talk about the announcers silly. Who cares. Watch the damn game. Why does everything have to be critiqued? Not meant for you specifically. Just all the comments about announcing amaze me. This is a baseball site. Let’s talk baseball, not who announces it.

    Pretty weak line up today. But they did need to give PCA a day. This is a good one to give him. And, who knows? The line up will probably put up 8 runs today. It happens!!!! Hopefully Brown is good today. He fell apart in the 4th inning his last start against the Phillies.

    This is where I am with him. I would be way more worried he was fully back then I would limiting his innings. He is a high risk high reward sort of guy. I guess it depends on what the Cubs want to do. If they want a MOR guy they can target guys like Kelly, Mahler, Keller, Eflin, etc. But not sure which are available now. Pretty sure for the right deal Alcantara is available now.

    Not going through pages of posts. But if I failed to delete it one time, that is fine. Glad it was said anyway. There was once when I hit send and then didn’t see it get posted. Maybe I missed it, again that is fine. I also agree with gflore about being glad the cardinals lost. 👍
