  1. Agreed. Cubs came out of a very difficult early schedule in good shape. Cardinals are only 1 game back but from now until June 16 or so, the next 31 games the only team they play who would be considered bad is the Orioles. And they might turn it around by then. By the time the Xubs face the Cardinals in late June their lead should be at least 4 or 5 games. I’m not sure I cam say I expect no worse than 12-6 the next 18. horsefeathers happens in baseball. But I agree they should start distancing themselves from .500 and the division. ThrbCardinals haven’t played one game against the NL West yet. The schedule not going to be their friend starting tomorrow.
  2. How many runs did he give up. He came in yesterday and waked a guy to then get two guys to hit ground balls and get the save. The time before that he came I. With the Manfred runner in second and the inning ended with that runner on second. I get it, he isn’t lock down sure thing no worry reliever. Unfortunately they don’t really have one. He has had 2 bad games. The one in the 18th of April and now this one. A few other times when he did give up runs they were in bloop hits not over 75mph. No, he isn’t perfect, but to suggest he has been awful for 2 weeks is not accurate. There is so much to complain about with the one, that is an issue. Until today Hosge wasn’t an issue, at least not in the last 2 weeks.
  3. This might be true, sadly. Hodge was until today.
  4. Since April 18th, when he blew up he has pitched 7.1 innings with one run allowed. How is that awful for 2 weeks?
  5. Calling his numbers, before this year, mediocre is being kind. He was bad. He is the Mets version of Colin Rea.
  6. Hodge and yes🤞 Honestly, even when Imanaga comes back I wouldn’t mind some sort of a 6 man rotation. They have Boyd, Horton, and Brown they probably shouldn’t pitch more than 120 innings. Rea probably is a guy they should count on every 5th day. Imanaga is someone who does better with an extra day of rest. Taillon is the only pitcher who has pitched high innings on a regular basis. Maybe it doesn’t have to be a strict 6 man rotation, but maybe Counsell mixes guys in and gives guys occasional rests during the year.
  7. Now that is funny! That is worth calling out the announcers for. Nice job!
  8. He is here filling for Thielbar due to his wife having a baby. So not sure it will be him. I am not sure they can send Cosgrove down until Theilbar comes back.🤷 Otherwise, yes, that is exactly what they will do. Might be Holloway today. Then Cosgrove once Theilbar comes back. Bottom line is they did not stress the main pieces of the pen last night, which was something chibear was rightfully concerned about due to a poor start from Jamo. All pen arms should be ready the next 2 games.
  9. If you don’t want him to use quality pen arms for fear of losing them for later in the series he has to use guys he doesn’t have in his circle of trust.
  10. You mean the last 6 times he pitched? No one is suggesting he is a TOR starter. He is a MOR starter. Suggesting he is not good enough to be a starting pitcher is easy to defend against because it is a very stupid comment.
  11. Couldn’t wait to post this, could you. I mean after Taillon’s first stat he strung together 6 starts where they were either a QS or he gave up less than 3 runs but maybe only went 5.1. So obviously you were silent then. He is hardly a bum. He is just a MOR starter who didn’t have it today. He gave up 4 solo homers today. Yes, that isn’t good. But those should have been the only earned runs he was charged with.
  12. Yep, and probably a guy who will not be in the team tomorrow. That pitcher will probably go 2, anyway. That would get them to 6 and then the last 2 filled by pen arms per usual. I don’t see the pen being tired the rest of the series as an issue. At least not because of this game.
  13. I’m not too worried about pen use. Right now they have an extra guy in the pen. If Taillion gets rocked early they can always use the guy they are going to send out tomorrow when they activate Horton. And Taillon still may very well go 6. It might become an issue🤷. But I think your panic is way to early.
  14. Agreed. Cubs aren’t going to make this big a splash move for a guy who really isn’t that good a third baseman already and will only get worse as years go on. And him not being willing to move is not a good sign of how he might react later in his contract. When you add in his salary would probably take them out of any Tucker extension talk I don’t see it. Red Sox are not going to eat enough of his contract to make him and Tucker affordable. Besides that, I don’t think they have to make a big move at 3rd. As you said, I think pitching will be the bigger focus.
  15. I agree they won’t do it. My point is they can. They can start 3 pitchers on normal rest and don’t NEED to start him until Tuesday. To me, the fact they aren’t doing this tells me they believe he will be fine starting in NY. Which I happen to agree with.
  16. Back to Horton, if the Cubs really don’t want him starting against the Mets they could pitch Tallion, Boyd and Rea all on usual rest and let Horton pitch next week against the Marlins. They don’t have to go either Horton or a pen day. That is why I think they have a lot of confidence in Horton. If they wanted to ease him in they could just wait. But it looks like they are not doing that.
  17. Exactly. I had hoped it would be a short stint at Iowa, but it doesn’t look that way. I haven’t lost hope in him, but they aren’t going to bring him back until he is hitting with authority. It just takes time. It isn’t that unusual that a kid has to be sent back down. Much like PCA of last year, I think when they bring him back he will be ready to play everyday and contribute.
  18. Agreed. They are winning with pitching. They have a better offense than either the Marlins or Nationals, but if it is his spot to pitch and it happens to me against the Mets, I would let him pitch.
  19. On top of that, prior to Pressly’s meltdown the pen had the 5th lowest ERA in all of baseball since April 21st. Yes, it has had bad moments and it does need a little work. But it doesn’t suck. Granted, that is limited innings, but it is the most recent innings and innings after Counsell moved some pieces out and others in. It is very easy for people to come and post the pen (or in the case of last night, one pen arm) sucks when they blowup and then remain silent while it is doing great work.
  20. Normally I am not one to panic quickly or overreact to situations. I tend to believe guys play to the back of their baseball card. I think many fans here overreact daily. But, that said, I think Pressly is on borrowed time. And I wouldn’t use him in a high leverage situation. Maybe he is a guy that should be DFA. Might not be when Horton is brought up (Hopefully this weekend) but maybe when Braiser is ready to come back. None of the optionable pen arms deserve to be sent back. So very possible Pressly could be released.
  21. Exactly. And for me, it takes a lot to notice the announcer. They are all fine but no one I tune in just to listen to. I tune in to watch a game. They are a necessary part of the telecast. Nothing more.
