    Can people give it a rest with the same old comment “Cubs won’t resign Tucker” ? Can we just let the season play out and see what happpens? No one knows what they will end up doing.

    You also have to factor in acquisition cost. Alcantara is going to cost way more. Cabrera will cost more as well and I am really not sure this year he will be better. I like him because we have him longer. But for this year I am not sure he does any better at a higher cost to acquire.

    It is going to be frustrating. Because I am sure most people are looking at half a season and going to decide Smith will be a star and Shaw is a bust. Cubs traded the wrong guy, etc, etc, etc. But there is so much gray in each of those comments. I remember just last year maybe close to this time in the season or might have been a little earlier. Some of our fanbase was down on Busch and commenting how come the Brewers can bring up Ortiz and he be good from the start. Some wanted Busch sent down. Same with Chorious and PCA. I think some fans loved Jordon Walker of the Cardinals. Just because one guy starts good and the other does not doesn’t dictate their career path. Smith might go on to be a star and Shaw might be a bust. But it can also go the other way. Most likely each player will land somewhere better than bust but less than all star. 200 AB does not determine a guys career. And as for the trade, to get a guy like Tucker you have to trade quality. Maybe we should thank Jed for drafting Smith, a guy the Astros wanted, in the first place. Maybe also thank him for trading Morel and Bjggie for Parades. Houston was said to be in on him at the deadline. Had Jed not gotten him we would have never had Tucker.

    Even with underlying numbers not being as good as his actual results, he is still better and ready, now, to pitch than any of the guys mentioned to be like him. And because of his contract and his possible opt out at the end of the year or his option to stay another year, he should come cheaper than most. He isn’t great, but far better than Rea and he also might allow the Cubs to slow some Horton innings. I think Cabrera cost more and Alcantara even more than that.

    He is who he is. He speaks and acts before he thinks sometimes. But he did retract those comments too. I have been told by me reason ticket rep he is a very nice humble guy. So I choose to believe that and just think he runs hot and that sometimes gets him in trouble.

    Actually he has always been a little bitch. But before he was our bitch so we loved him. Now he is an Cardinal so we hate that attitude. I like Willson, but I am also glad we don’t have him any longer.

    I have a feeling fans are going to be shocked and upset at what the Cubs will have to give up to get a quality starting pitcher. But they have to do it.

    But Horton can’t throw 130 innings this year and then the playoffs. Keller isn’t great. I agree. But he is a decent MOR starter who might be available now. i agree with you if by saving that prospect you can get that better pitcher now(Alcantara) by adding that guy to whoever else you have to give up. But if they can’t get Alcantara now but can get Keller I would take Keller now and worry about later, later.

    I am generally not someone who overreacts and stays positive. But I have to agree with you that a win would help greatly. Looks like Brewers and going to win again. So Cubs really could use this one.

    Bleacher Nation mentioning Keller and Bednar. I would be ok with that combo. I think with both not being cheap after this year they might not be that pricey. Maybe they can get them and still be able to go after Alcantara closer to the deadline.

    This. Well done. A recap without panic. I mean, it is baseball. This happens to every team, every year. Even teams that play .600 ball for the season have a 20+ game stretch of playing .350-.400 ball. Cubs should right themselves and be fine. It is frustrating when going through it but we all should have expected it.

    Yep, that is my point. He played it terribly. And it didn’t look that far over the wall. Had he gone straight back to where the ball ended up, based on it just clearing and seeing guys can get gloves higher than the wall, I feel he could have had a play on it. Sure, would have been a very good catch. But sometimes you need to do something very good to win a game.

    I havent seen it mentioned, so maybe it is just me or maybe I missed it when people did mention it. But did the homer to left look like a ball that Suzuki could have caught had he went to the spot instead of running around lost as to where the ball was? It looked like it just cleared the wall. Guys get gloves over the wall in St.l. To me it didn’t look like it would have even been that high a jump to get it. Did anyone else see that or am I just wrong and it cleared by a lot? I am not blaming him for not catching it. Even if he went straight back it would have had to be a nice play. I am just frustrated on them losing because they didn’t play a clean game. Cardinals bad fielding right fielder made 2 nice plays. Couldnt we make one? And maybe know the outs in a inning.

    Maybe. But he did make a huge mistake not knowing the outs. And if he did bunt on his own, that was a very dumb thing to do.

    JD called for a squeeze bunt. If they did that Tucker would have been running. PCA did that in his own. Just a dumb play by PCA. 2 dumb PCA plays cost the Cubs this one. They will probably lose by more than 1, but if they were winning Keller would be pitching this inning.

    PCA should have done something. Anything except a stupid bunt.

    If PCA did that in his own he needs to sit tomorrow. That is 2 boneheaded plays that probably will cost the Cubs a win. He is a great young player. But lately his head has been in his ass. Missed 2 fly balls Saturday and now this nonsense today.

    I thought about that too. But you might lose PCA by doing that. He made a mistake. He didn’t not hustle on a play. He just messed up in a long inning. So you don’t do it to him.

    Yes he is. His boneheaded play cost a run. Period.
