  1. Yep, Cubs have to make all of them available in order to get a difference maker who also comes with years of control left. I am not saying they deal all of them. I am saying not one of them should be off limits, for the right guy. (Gore or Ryan). Until yesterday I probably would have had Cabrera in that list too. So, as you said, the list will most likely look different 3 weeks from now. Hopefully sooner.
  2. Cabrera will absolutely cost a Cassie level prospect. He is under team control cheap until 2029. You can’t get a solid player with control who is cheap buffering 3 mid level prospects.
  3. Well the Happ and Shaw haters have to like it. He did finally take them out of the line up.
  4. I am not one to suggest Cubs can’t win here. But pitching match ups are not favorable. Cubs get Rodon and Fried and are going bullpen day today. Tomorrow we get Boyd, but again, that is against Fried. Sunday looks ok, but Imanaga was hit hard last turn out. If we are looking at this from an unbiased view I would think most would feel the Yankees have the edge. Doesn’t mean the Cubs cannot beat them. They absolutely can.
  5. Just remember….. baseball is stupid. So anything can happen.
  6. I agree. And I know CC is calling this a bullpen day, however, I don’t think it will be like last BP days. Flexen is not “the opener” IMO. I think if he pitches we’ll be could get to 60 pitches and thru 4 innings. Then go to Wicks for maybe 3. I don’t think the plan today is to parade 8 pitchers into the game, like a true BP day. But, who knows🤷
  7. I agree, they can supply one stop shopping. The problem is, I doubt they feel they are out of it right now. I realize they are 4 back and have a lot of teams to get past. But every FO wants to believe they still have a chance only being 4 out.
  8. Well this is certainly all in. I like your thought process. But I think, rather than Ryan and Cabrera I would go with one of them and then the second pitcher be Morton. Maybe instead of the Cabrera trade I add Morton to Bautista and give up less than it cost to get Cabrera. If not Morton maybe Kelly of Gallen. Again, less cost than Cabrera. As for who they lose, I honestly have no idea if you are low, high, or spot on with your trade assets. So I can’t comment there. But I am sure someone like Kelly, Gallen or Morton is much less than Cabrera.
  9. D.J told the Yankees he couldn’t play 3rd. That is why he hasn’t been there all year. He said it was too much for him. Otherwise, I would agree. Besides that, Yankees picked up Candelario on a minor league deal and cut DJ. If people didn’t like Candelario how can they like DJ?
  10. As I said before, by bigger issue is your suggestion of bringing someone else up to play 3rd. Who, exactly? Who can play 3rd as good as Shaw and definitely hit? I am also frustrated with Shaw, but I do tend to believe Jason when he pre hrs stats. So I do trust he will get better. But I do understand your apprehension. But please tell me this minor leaguer we are bringing up to play 3rd.
  11. That is probably true.
  12. Yep, you can add him to the lower cost, rental pitcher to eat innings and lengthen your rotation.
  13. Your comment was send him down and bring someone else up from AAA. While I side with Jason and those who feel he needs time here, I do at least understand your frustration with him in the line up. But where you really lost me was suggesting sending someone else up, as if that someone would be any better in the line up. And he would undoubtedly be worse on the field. I assume that someone would be Long. Are his AAA numbers any better than what Shaw’s were? And he is clearly not as good a fielder. If/when Shaw gets replaced, this year, it needs to be by someone they traded for. And I am not sure they even have to do that. But I do understand why you do.
  14. I get that. And I am not saying they shouldn’t give Long a chance, at some point. But the comment I responded to was “Long’s bat is major league ready”. Personally I don’t think he will be very good from the start.
  15. I think he will be extended soon. I also am not afraid of losing top prospects, as long as it is for a guy or guys who have years left before hitting FA.
  16. For me,” all in” means all players are available. I don’t think it means get a particular player or players. That is too hard to figure out. But if I was to suggest players, it would look like one of Gore, Cabrera or Ryan plus one of Gallen, Kelly or Lugo, then a bat to play 3rd and/or be a bench bat, and a pen arm. But all that would absolutely gut the system.
  17. Just looked at the standing. While we were discussing the advantage of adding Bregman it came to my attention the Red Aoz have won 6 in a row and are 4 games over .500 and tied for the last WC spot. Has me doubting Bregman is even worth discussing.
  18. For all the doomsday talk that goes on around here, we do need to remember the Cubs are 16 games over .500 and in the running for the best record in the NL. They cannot help what the Brewers are doing. Normal expectation would be the Cubs would be at least 5 games in 1st now if they were 16 games over. I think we probably all need to take a breath and relax a little. I doubt the Brewers continue to play .700 ball, like they have done the past 40 games. And if they do, there is nothing the Cubs can do about it. Cubs are a good team. We should be very happy where their record stands.
  19. I think the Cubs got very lucky on Boyd and Kelly, a little lucky on Rea, very lucky on several pen arms and unlucky on Turner. I think it is not unreasonable to have thought he would be a decent bench bat. So him and whoever wasn’t catching would have been an ok start to the bench. They did need to get someone better than either Berti or Brujan. But I do agree with you that they had enough money to do more.
  20. We pretty much agree on what we think will happen. I think definitely a starting pitcher will be added. I also think an upgrade at 3rd/bench will be added. Not a major upgrade. The question comes in as to what else, if anything? Pen arm, second starter or a bigger upgrade to the line up? 🤷 Whatever it is I hope it is enough.
  21. How many guys whose bat is ready at AAA fail when they first come up? How many times does it have to happen before some people realize it is a huge jump from AAA to the majors. There were people here who swore Shaw’s bat was ready. How is that going? This is not to suggest Shaw is a bust. It is just saying expecting a guy from AAA to come up and hit from the start and never stop hitting is very unrealistic.
  22. Honestly, if that did happen I would guess the Cubs got a controlled pitcher back, who is pretty good. That would also mean the Cubs have pretty decent money to spend elsewhere. Which could bring them Suarez or Schwarber or someone else for the everyday line up. While I wouldn’t like that scenerio, I don’t think it is that doomsday. I also think because of so many teams making the playoffs, teams are not deciding to sell yet. And any that are, right now are probably asking way too much.
