  1. I have thought of Moncada as well. And if Long was the cost of Castro, Moncada could be the guy. That is too much for a rental. Obviously I would rather have Castro, but not for Long.
  2. If they are not interested in moving any of their top 5 prospects in deals to improve the team I am more than happy with your scenerio. But, I would rather go big and get Gore and than add any of their 3 pitchers you mentioned. He will be very expensive. I also like the idea of Castro. Again, he shouldn’t cost a top 8 guy in the system. I think adding two right handed starters to Boyd, Imanaga and Tailon(eventually) would make their rotation 5 deep with a decent chance to win any game. The pen also gets better with Horton and even Rea going to the pen. But, damn, Gore(or Ryan) really improved the rotation. Just a matter of who they need to give up. I think to get Gore the nats would probably get their pick of any 3 prospects in the minors. Tough ask, but Gore is pretty special and still has years of control.
  3. Not only this, but I think short of a total disaster of a first half the ownership planned on retaining Jed, assuming he still wants the job. So why not get it done now rather than wait until the off season where that is one more thing to worry about? Can you imagine an off season looking for a POBO and possibly an entire new FO while also trying to bid on FA and/or make trades. It would be a shitshow. He may not be the best in the game, but he is solid and he does what ownership wants.
  4. No it doesn’t.
  5. It doesn’t. Best record and if it is a tie, head to head.
  6. I already told you why I think he will be retained and I will be soon”ish”. Apparently you don’t like my reason. Which is fine. I am not even suggesting I think he has done a great job. I think the Cubs think he has done fine and will retain him. 2 of the requirements for you retaining him, IMO, are things that would be easier for him to do if he was retained already. I don’t want a lame duck POBO trading away young talent for rentals. i don’t want Tucker to not be talking to someone he knows will be around for a while. And if he goes to free agency I don’t want the Cubs looking for a FO while Tucker is getting offers from other teams. I also want him to know he is sticking around so he doesn’t gut the system and let the next guy worry about it. And, as for going deep in the playoffs, really all the POBO can do is put a team in the field that can win.
  7. Rizzo!🤷 Not suggesting I want him, but there will be guys there. The bigger question is will the Cubs job be a job an established POBO would want? Not sure any of the established guys would want to work with Ricketts restraints. As I said, I am fine with ext using Jed and building continuity in the FO. Then he can sign and trade knowing he will be here several more years to see what he built.
  8. Honestly I don’t care either way. But I think they will extend him. And it is better if they do before he starts trading, IMO. I think it also helps if they are trying to extend Tucker or PCA right now if they know what the FO would look like moving forward. Just look at Devers. He was told he would be the Red Sox 3rd baseman and then a new FO was signed. They told him they didn’t make that deal with him, the old one did. Just more continuity.
  9. It is not a have to extend Jed because of the great things he has done. It is more about continuity moving forward. If they want a chance of extending Tucker or even signing him at the end of the year they need a POBO and GM in place moving forward. Jed has been fine. He gets way more grief than he deserves here. He isn’t the best at his job, but they can do far worse. As long as Ricketts owns the team the baseball ops will never take full advantage of Thor spending advantage. So whoever else comes in would have the same restraints. Might as well stick to who is here and who has put the team together.
  10. That is a valid concern. That is why they need 1 for sure playoff starting pitcher with a good chance to add a second who can be a 3rd starter. Also, I realize Boyd is 34, but being out as long as he was, is it possible he still has a lot of innings left for his career? Is he a guy that can pitch to 38? Again, his inning have been limited throughout his career, until now.
  11. He threw 20 td passes. I wouldn’t consider 26 “in the neighborhood”. But I think he will be fine.
  12. I agree with this. And odd, different or strange does not mean bad. No way can I ever make that statement. First, I only know what i read a scout says. I only see where guys are ranked. So basically I don’t have the knowledge to suggest something is bad. And more importantly, I also trust DK. If they picked who they picked, I trust them to have valid reasons.
  13. Has anyone seen PCA, Tucker or Boyd at all during the home run derby? I am shocked not to see PCA up front watching and having fun.
  14. I think if Conrad hasn’t hurt his shoulder he wouldn’t have even been available to the Cubs. Sounds a like like the PCA situation when the Cubs traded for him. Had his shoulder not been a problem at the time of the deal thrnCubs probably couldn’t have gotten him. Hope it ends the same way. I do trust the Cubs with that one.
  15. Absolutely, if he can play 3rd a bit.
  16. I’m not sure it will be done by Friday. But I agree with you he will be extended and it will happen soon rather than later. maybe they do one stop announcing. Jed, PCA and Tucker extended….. 😬
  17. But he already said he can’t play 3rd. He told the Yankees that at the start of the season.
  18. Who do they have to get RJ fit your criteria? Or are they just going to be underdogs when an opposing team pitches an ace?
  19. The list of meh picks continues. Don’t get it. Obviously the Cubs are seeing something most others don’t see or agree with. Maybe Jed was instructed not to spend on the draft🤷. So they are going cheap.
  20. Is Wing really much of an overshot? I mean he was projected around 100 and went 120th. Is that really something they have to pay that much for? I understand their situation. But it looks like they took a lot of meh players and/ir seniors, gearing up for a big bonus pick soon. And if not, they draft was kind of uneventful. Doesn’t mean it will turn out bad. Just means they didn’t draft what the consensus of experts thought was value. 🤷
  21. I mean, I only know what is written by scouts and where guys are ranked that the Cubs took. But I have to say I am a bit underwhelmed by what they have done up until now. Where are they spending this money? Sounds like so far they might have 2 guys people are excited about. The rest were reaches or at best, about where they should be. College seniors are also a way to not towns money on a signing. They did that a few times. There has to be something big happening, right?
  22. I would think all here would do that. I would think Wiggins is a guy they deal INLY if they get someone with some years of control back, and who is good now. For the right rental I can see Wicks traded. Not sure about Brown.
  23. What big swings can the Cubs take? I mean, are there really guys available who are worth giving 2nd round money to, drafted in round 4 thru 7. And, if so, why weren’t they drafted already? Is a gig time HS guy going to opt out of a college xommitment for 2nd rd money?
  24. Thanks Bertz. TBH, the reason I asked about him is I just added him to my fantasy team with the hopes the Sox trade him to a good team and I can get something out of him, for nothing. And if he was a guy, all the better, if it was a trade to the Cubs.
