  1. That sucks for the Sox. I am sure they want to trade him.
  2. Taillon being better is up to debate. But they can also just trade Kremer next off season. Or just start without Steele, who may not be ready in April and when Steele comes back you decide what to do. Injuries might make the decision simple.
  3. Based on what he suggested the Reds had to give up for Suarez, I am surprised it is just Wiggins. I would have thought he would say Alcantara or Cassie too. What an idiot.
  4. You trade someone?🤷
  5. Castro would be fine with me. Especially if the Dbacks are asking too much for Suarez.
  6. I am going to trust the Cubs on Alcantara. If they trade for him, IMO, he will do well here. If they don’t trade for him I am okay with that as well. However, I would also want someone else if they get Alcantara. A more sure thing sort of guy. Kelly or Lugo, as an example. But Alcantara would be the guy the Cubs would hope to slot beteeen Boyd and Imanaga. He is a high risk high reward guy.
  7. Why up? I would think the Yankees getting McMahon takes them out of Suarez. If it did anything I would guess it brought the price down. My guess is the Dbacks are asking too much now and the Yankees moved on.
  8. Really I was responding to someone who suggested more than one if the top names had to go for Cabrera or Alcantara. Maybe I read his comment wrong but I thought he was saying he didn’t like the idea of Alcantara or Cabrera coming to us but the Cubs having to headline a deal with Cassie, and either Wiggins or Rojas. My point is, I don’t think they need to do that much. But I do think either will cost the Cubs either Cassie or Alcantara. Marlins probably want a kicker too. That might be where the Cubs hold the line. I think those guys will not be cheap.
  9. I would actually like to see something so that Rea doesn’t have to pitch in the Brewers series. Lugo went against Rea so obviously he would be ready. If they are close to something for any other pitcher who might be scheduled for either Sunday or Monday, that is another option for Tuesday. I really hope something is done by the end of the day tomorrow.
  10. They can also move Cam Smith to third and be in on an outfielder. But I agree they will be checking on Suarez.
  11. I don’t see a trade for either Marlin starter to have more than one top tier guy. And I wouldn’t make it with Wiggins. I can see Cassie going for one of those pitchers. If there is more needed I think it would be come from guys not listed by tryptamine.
  12. I pretty much agree with this with some slight differences. First, Wiggins would only be available for Gore. No other controlled starter. As for the others in that group, I would just add the guy would have to be a pitcher. Not a controlled bat. Same with the next tier. I don’t think the Cubs have to worry about a controlled bat. I also think that is what you meant, just clarifying if the Cubs do get a controlled asset, it would be a pitcher. I agree with your breakdown, however. Nicely done.
  13. If you count Assad and Taillon that would be 8 different players on the team in mid August compared to now. I don’t see that either. Changing 30% of a roster on a team playing at 94 win pace.
  14. Other teams will want players too. It just isn’t going to happen that the Cubs get 5 or 6 guys. And they don’t have to. If you think the Cubs depth sucks maybe look at other teams. Because they must have issues too, or why would the. Cubs have the second best record in baseball? Maybe Castro as a bat. That solves bench bat/3rd base and a RH outfielder. Maybe 2 starting pitchers or one starter and 1 pen arms. At most 2 starters and 1 pen arm. If they have a great deadline I can see 4 guys added.
  15. Got it. But it was still worded as a question. Probably rightfully so. 😬Because honestly as I said in another post, I am not sure who I prefer. It depends on who the other pitcher is.!
  16. Reading this post along with others where you expect 2 starting pitchers and 1 or 2 pen arms, I think you are going to be very disappointed at the deadline. You are basically suggesting 5 or 6 different people acquired via trade at the deadline. This team is one game from having the best record in baseball and you are suggesting they replace 20%+ of their team. I don’t think that will happen.
  17. I agree. But the first one has to be less risky. Even if it is a MOR starter, as long as he is pretty sure to give you what is expected, Bieber would be an excellent high risk high reward guy.
  18. Are you asking or telling us “we prefer Soroka”? I’m not sure who “we” represents, so I can’t tell you who “we” prefer. For me, if the Cubs got a low risk solid starter, and Soroka cost less than Lugo, I would prefer Soroka. But if they went high risk high reward with the other pitcher, I would prefer Lugo over Soroka.
  19. I think if they get 2 starters they will not get 2 pen arms too. Maybe not any. With 2 starters that moves Rea or Horton to the pen. If Assad comes back and when Tailon comes back that puts Assad and whoever didn’t go to the pen after trading for 2 staters, to the pen. The rotation would have two pitchers they traded for, Imanaga, Boyd and Taillon. The pen would have Rea, Horton and Assad in it along with Theilbar, Keller, Brasier, Palencia and probably Pressley or Pomeranz. I guess if they went two rentals for the rotation they could aim high for a closer type guy like Clase or a bit lower like Iglesias. But I wouldn’t bother with a middle relief pitcher. IMO they have that covered.
  20. I find the discussion on who the Cubs should bring in so interesting. Between rentals and controlled pitchers they can be so different. You have the high end guys who will cost a lot but pretty certain to be good (Gore and Ryan), then the guys with huge upside but fear of either an injury or they don’t get to the upside (Alcantara and Cabrera), the young guy you hope they can turn into a TOR starter (Soriano and Bradley) and then the steady MOR guy (Keller). Different people want different things. As for rentals you have differences too. Cease would be a higher end buy. Then there is Gallen who has been good for year but not so this year. The veterans who get it done without having impressive underlying numbers, like Lugo and Kelly. Morton is in a category on his own. And then there is Soroka. His actual numbers are poor, but all underlying point to a good pitcher. So which is better? Lugo, who for several years has outperformed his expected numbers and has an era around 3, or Soroka, who despite having great stuff pitches to a 5.00 era. I do think him coming to the Cubs would solve a lot of his problems, but is Lugo a safer pick to stay in the 3.00-3.30 era? I think if they go with 2 pitchers one will come from one group and the other from the other group. Maybe they go high risk in one group and then steady in the other.
  21. I would like to see one controllable pitcher and one rental. Depending on cost and the Cubs willingness to move several higher end prospects the controlled guy could be anyone from Gore, Ryan, Alcantara, Cabrera and maybe even Keller, Bradley or Soriano. The rental can come from Soroka, Kelly, Gallen, Cease, Morton, Lugo or a list of several others that may come available as teams sell. Those moves along with Assad coming back would strengthen the rotation and the pen. Horton and Rea can go to the pen with Assad. Maybe add a bench bat like Castro and finish the season strong.
  22. Seems there are just two types of people here. Those who overreact to the Brewers playing great the last 50 games and explaining how they are so much better than the Cubs that the Cubs have to make several moves to just compete. And then there are the ones that feel they need to disrespect the Brewers by suggesting they will fold late in the season. Why can’t the Brewers be good, but the Cubs are very good too? I said it over a month ago. When the Cubs had a 5 game lead I said I still worry about the Brewers and only the Brewers in this division. That doesn’t mean I think they are a better team. I don’t. But I do respect them and realize they are a good team who will be tough to beat.
  23. This is also not correct. The Brewers are not better. They have a 1 game lead after being incredibly hot for a ridiculous amount of time. The Cubs will make moves, but as they are presently constructed the Brewers aren’t better than the Cubs.
