  1. Suzuki swinging at anything and everything except what's right down the middle
  2. He said “When Steele comes back, they can decide which one goes to the pen, depending on their performance”
  3. Those Sox jerseys are so damn ugly. Trying too hard to be like the Bulls
  4. I'm a Justin Steele truther, the idea of him going into the bullpen is blasphemy to me.. lol. Jk. I can't wait to watch him pitch again though. He is a top 25-30 pitcher in the game and it's not fair that the Cubs are down 2 of those guys.
  5. Personally, I hope the Cubs don't try to stretch him out again to be a starter, at least not until next season. Let him keep dominating in this Cade Smith type of role with the occasional spot start. Don't break what's working.
  6. Sale's gotta be a first ballot HOFer. His baseball reference page is a beauty. Hard to believe a guy can pitch as long as he has and never have a season where the ERA/FIP is under 4. Not even Kershaw can say that.
  7. Ben will make himself a lot of money down the line if he keeps pitching like this
  8. I'm not sure if I would consider Peralta a star tbh. Skubal.... now get me that guy 😂 But to your point, the "superstar" can absolutely be found to upgrade the rotation instead of the lineup. That's why Cade's injury still kills me. That was probably the 1 guy on this roster that was blossoming into that top flight guy.
  9. Thank you for saying that. I did try very hard not to insult him lol, because honestly I have grown to appreciate Happ quite a bit. I'll freely admit that in past seasons I wasn't his biggest fan but it's hard not to like him. He's a true home grown talent. And it says a lot about him that the Cubs let many walk out the door over the years (Contreras, Baez, Bryant etc.) but they always prioritized bringing Happ back. So he's not just a really solid player but a great locker room guy too. He absolutely deserves every dollar of his next contract
  10. Good post. You are correct. I probably do underestimate him at times. My entire conclusion is that the Cubs need more superstar talent on this team. Frankly I don't care how they do it or even if they keep Happ or not - but it has to be prioritized IMO because I don't see them winning a WS without that top flight guy. Even the tiny market teams have that guy. The Rays have Caminero, the Royals have Bobby Witt Jr, the Tigers have Skubal.... so why is it that a team with unlimited resources like the Cubs can't land that guy? Let's take a look at every other team that is a serious contender. They are all built around superstars. -The Dodgers and Braves have more superstars than I can count -The Yanks got Judge and Fried -The Guardians have Ramirez (albeit slow start this year) -Even the Athletics have a star lol Really, the only other team that is playing this brand of baseball is the Padres. And even they might have a superstar depending on what your opinion is of Tatis Jr. It just seems like such a weird, glaring issue. And I see no way of addressing it unless it comes at the expense of either Happ or Suzuki. Idk.
  11. I knew before my first comment about Happ that there is heightened sensitivity around here about him and that I needed to phrase my comments carefully to avoid triggering the mob. Literally in every comment i’ve reiterated how good I think he is but why I think it’s logical for the Cubs to consider moving on. It still didn’t work. LOL. He’s the poster child of the fan base. You can’t say 1 word about that guy around here without sending folks into a frenzy.
  12. so your response to my statement of “I want a guy that wins silver sluggers and not gold gloves” is to endlessly advocate for a guy who has never won one before and frankly will never win one in his entire career because he isn’t a talented enough hitter. lol. We know this is a good offense but there is an obvious need for more slug and only a few positions where there isn’t already a long term commitment. The guy is a good player, he isn’t a star and folks should stop pretending that he is. He is serviceable, sometimes very good. That is it. Hardly somebody that should have a full no trade clause or someone that can’t be considered for an upgrade. It doesn’t mean we are dogging on him. But after 10 years it’s time to have conversations about the future in LF.
  13. The dream for me would be Corbin Carroll, (I acknowledge that it's unrealistic). But if I'm Jed I'm calling the D-Backs and offering them any 3-4 top prospects they want from the minor league level. horsefeathers I'd even be willing to move off of a major league piece to get a guy like that - Ben Brown +.
  14. My take on this is: His next contract will almost certainly be his last opportunity for a major pay day, given his age, so he's probably going to want a 5 year deal like Bregman got this year. Are the Cubs prepared to make a 5 year/100 to 110 million $ commitment to him? He will almost certainly get it from someone. Seems like the Yankees have loved Happ forever and wouldn't surprise me if the Angels and Mets are also interested. Do the Cubs want to get into a bidding war with other big market teams for Ian Happ on a 4-5 year deal that could run over 100m? So is he "worth" an extension? For another team - yes (imo) but for the very unique needs of this team, I personally wouldn't. They have to buck the status quo somehow and assuming they want to keep Suzuki around, LF is probably the only opportunity to find a true elite hitter.
  15. Who's shitting on him? Seems like people are having reasonable conversations about how to improve this ball club and how he fits into future plans as a soon-to-be free agent.
  16. If Maton wasn't a shiny new free agent acquisition, he'd be on his way to Iowa tonight. Brutal signing
  17. Imanaga is boiling in the dugout and I don't blame him. Incredible performance, down the drain
  18. I'm not under valuing him, he's a baller. But his skill set is redundant with many others on this team. And there are only 2 opportunities to improve this lineup in the immediate future, which is the corner outfield positions. Got to give up something to get something greater. This team has like 5 guys that can and probably will win a gold glove. They have 0 that will come close to winning a silver slugger. Need to have balance
  19. Exactly. It's time to find a guy that can win a silver slugger and not a gold glove
  20. That's what I'm hoping for if Mo doesn't turn into that guy. I'm also starting to like the idea of both corner OF positions opening up this off-season. Keep one or the other between Happ/Suzuki and then go all in to get a star caliber outfielder that can slug.
  21. Love Nico but he's objectively not even the best 2B in the division
