  1. true, but even when healthy that’s a tough matchup against Mis/Harrison/Woodruff and then this bullpen. Even a guy like Uribe, what a beast.
  2. the difference in talent between these 2 teams is alarming
  3. dang, I almost deluded myself into thinking they’d win
  4. "Suzuki runs into one" odd way to call a monster oppo field HR
  5. Feel better brotha I might end up in the ER if Counsell misses another obvious challenge
  6. Weaver will be a nice get for someone
  7. I didn't realize the Cubs were getting Boyd back today. That's kinda exciting.
  8. Did the Pirates GM come out and say they aren’t trading Skenes? I must have missed it. There have been so many discussions from the media and fans about an Alvarez trade that they were compelled to make a public statement. He’s getting traded, whether it’s this trade deadline, this off season or next year’s trade deadline.
  9. “stepped into conversations where other people are talking..” wtf is that supposed to mean? like am I interrupting you from saying something? this is a public thread i can post whatever the horsefeathers I want. stop chasing people off this board because you don’t agree with what they say, i’ve seen you do this to others in the past too I also said “IF” Alvarez becomes available and have said 1000 different times it’s unlikely. I guess you don’t understand what the word “IF” means or the concept of a hypothetical
  10. I'm not the one that brought it up, someone was making a joke about me and mischaracterizing my opinion so I responded 🤷 which I don't really get. Respect that people have different opinions instead of throwing shade at every opportunity.
  11. I'm beyond obsessed with that guy, won't pretend otherwise lol. One of the best hitters I've ever seen. Imagine that guy out of the 2 hole every single day behind PCA. I agree that it's very unlikely they trade him but weirder things have happened.
  12. Haha it's not like he's gonna come out and say "we can't wait to trade our generational player". I know it's unrealistic, I'm just saying that they will get calls regardless and the Cubs should be a team that calls and makes a compelling offer if there is even a 1% chance they'd do it.
  13. Both of the top guys will require an extension (Skubal and Ryan). I'd be all for it if that happens. Any major move would be welcome, as far as I'm concerned. But if the left handed version of Aaron Judge becomes available it would change my perspective, regardless of how bad the need for pitching gets. Those guys don't come around often.
  14. True. But we are also comparing the offense when it's at arguably it's highest point, to a rotation that is missing basically every starting pitcher. They are getting like 3 starters back in the next month and another 2 a few weeks after that. I still think it's a worthwhile move to get a starting pitcher, it just comes down to who it is. I'll take Joe Ryan every day of the week. I could get on board with Detmers. But after that, the names aren't particularly intriguing.
  15. You are looking at it from the lens of what their careers ended up materializing as. Whereas in 2022, Jeremy Pena was very much a budding superstar. Perez was in his year too. Same with Sandoval and Renteria. Zobrist wasn't a super star but he was very much known as being a really good hitter and clutch.
  16. I need to see a longer stretch of it this season but I generally agree with what you are saying. It's easy to get impatient when these guys have a track record of success. PCA's breakout is what takes them from just a good offense to potentially great. I still think they should jump all over it if there's an opportunity to find one more dude like that. Plenty of good pitching options available every off-season.
  17. Even if the pitching candidates that are projected to be available are dog horsefeathers and the hitting candidates projected to be available might be as good as we've seen in 10 years?
  18. I get that, but star power matters when the games matter. Those are the guys that show up in October. I don't believe average Joe's like Swanson will do much of anything at the plate when he's facing Mis in October. But your guys at the top have to deliver. PCA's breakout is why I have confidence in this lineup now. I'm just saying that what he's doing the last 5 weeks could not have been predicted by anyone. It's like when D Rose went from year 2 to year 3 and went from "really good" to "holy horsefeathers this guy is a unicorn".
  19. Not at all, but PCA's dominance is why I firmly believe in this offense now. I didn't see that breakout happening. And that's the difference, IMO. He's a bonafide superstar. Having a great leadoff hitter is such an underrated thing.
  20. The 1st part is probably still true and I never said "it's way more important". I simply said that if the option is there to get a big time bat I would do it, because it probably helps them more going into next season. But sure, the Cubs are an offensive juggernaut and the best lineup ever since they won a meaningless game in June against the Mets. lol
  21. I mean... let's not pretend like you saw PCA's historic stretch happening lol. The concerns about the offense began when they had a .650 something OPS guy leading off every game and nobody in the lineup coming close to an .800 OPS. Anyways, I agree that the way the offense is playing great now. PCA, Happ, Suzuki and Busch all deserve a lot of credit for turning their seasons around.
  22. It's nice to see some guys swinging a hot bat going into a huge matchup with Milwaukee in a few days.
  23. If Busch didn't have an insanely bad start in March/April, and played to his usual numbers, he'd be like an .850 OPS guy this year.
