  1. I would love for the Cubs to make a move similar to the Morel trade they made a few years ago. Leverage a young guy on this team who has some potential + a top prospect, for a guy that has a chance to be an actual star. Obviously the Morel/Parades move didn't work out, but I liked that Jed showed some courage for a change and made a big move. Chase Delauter from the Guardians is a pretty great prospect (imo). Strikes out less than 12% of the time, Walks over 10%, unique swing that plays at Wrigley Field. Has a great approach. I'm not great at mock trades but maybe something like Boyd, Suzuki and Ballesteros for DeLauter and one of their top 10-15 prospects? Cubs give up 2 expiring contracts plus a decent hitter in Ballesteros for a guy they can plug into RF next year and who fits the high contact approach that this team seems to love. Seeing a guy like Benge go 5/5 yesterday, and the Sox call up Montgomery today... why the horsefeathers can't the Cubs find a guy like that?
  2. I’ve been as bearish on this offense as anyone all year, but even I’m impressed at this new low. They are probably sellers at this point. Nobody can pretend anymore that this is a good offense.
  3. Random question - does Jason McLeod still work in the Cubs org? I was curious, so I googled it and every article I can find online says that he left the Cubs in 2021. Yet, his LinkedIn says he still works for the Cubs and the homepage article on NSBB has a recent looking picture of him and Jed on the field.
  4. PCA is a superstar. Now go find another one.. or three.
  5. Ben is amazing. Really, him + PCA + Busch + Happ are the only reasons to still tune in.
  6. Haha, I miss when the Cubs actually had guys with personalities instead of choir boys. Outside of a few guys, this team is so bland and unlikeable.
  7. The funny thing is that it was obvious Cabrera sucked before they even acquired him, his career numbers were on par with a guy like Javier Assad and taking this season into account, he should probably be joining Assad in Iowa.
  8. This has to be the most disappointing season in a long time, probably since 2019.
  9. The Cards and Reds don't scare me at all. But the Pirates are definitely a team to watch this season and in future seasons. They have really good pitching.
  10. If the Cubs can go on a run, they have the right teams coming up. Outside of a series against the Brewers and Cards they have a soft schedule until the all star break.
  11. This thing went from “best record in the NL” to “potential <.500 team” real quick. They are half a game away from being in last place… in June…. in a year where they were the overwhelming favorites to win the division by fans and media. Seriously, why does Carter Hawkins still have a job? What value does this guy bring? The Cubs were supposed to be this pitching factory that could develop arm after arm and replicate what the Brewers are doing. Doesn’t seem like the Guardians miss him very much. Jed isn’t going anywhere but they could at least offer up Carter and maybe the hitting coach as sacrificial lambs. Someone has to get fired.
  12. this is a wild take. he’s been an above average hitter 4 out of his 5 seasons here and was an above average hitter this season as recently as a 4-5 weeks ago. He’s in a brutal slump, like Happ and Busch were earlier in the year. However I do think he’s playing his way out of Chicago and the Cubs aren’t going to resign him.
  13. I'm still rolling with Suzuki. I don't forget the bomb he hit of Mis in the playoffs last year. That guy is still in there somewhere. I have a vague memory of him crashing hard into the right field wall a few weeks back. Wonder if he's dealing with something.
  14. It causes me almost physical pain to realize they probably didn't even make Schwarber an offer this past off-season. Starting to think WAR is a horsefeathers stat. Schwarber had 4.6 last year and Swanson 4.5. One guy is someone who everyone wants on their team and the other guy is someone nobody wants on their team.
  15. I'm not going to complain about the offense because I'm just a broken record at this point. But for folks that want more pitching: A guy like Kyle Harrison was available for basically anybody to acquire last off-season. That could have been our Arrieta 2.0. And the Cubs were especially primed to make a move like that, given that the Sox needed a 3B and the Cubs had a pretty decent one to offer in Shaw. Now the Cubs will pay 5x more for a pitcher nowhere near as talented with nowhere near as much control. If Jed is half the GM that he gets paid to be, the Brewers wouldn't be 10 steps ahead of him at every turn. They revamp their entire team every few years with these types of moves. Whereas Jed has locked the Cubs into mediocrity.
  16. A walk off would be sweet. This team needs a spark badly
  17. Jump is actually a decent prospect. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap
  18. My definition of superstar is any player who everyone expects to have a .900+ OPS bat going into the year. I'm guessing that checks out to basically 10-15 guys across the league in any given year. Acuna, Harper, Schwarber, Judge, Alvarez, Soto, and so on. There are a ton of very good hitters, the Cubs have several of them, but there's a noticeable difference between a guy like Michael Busch and a guy like Bryce Harper. If the Cubs win the WS this year I don't think anyone is calling Michael Busch a superstar if he goes back to a low .800 OPS or high .700 something OPS next year. It's got to be year-over-year dominance.
  19. Fair points. I acknowledge that I'm going against the grain here and my opinion is not what the majority think. I can get behind any move they make as long as it helps the team significantly. ^ If a guy like Alvarez is actually made available and the Cubs don't make a serious effort to get him, though, I would be pretty disappointed. Guys like that don't come along often.
  20. Did the Cubs not win a playoff series last year despite that so called terrible rotation and Shota playing awful? Whereas they got nothing from Tucker in the 2nd half of the year. So yes, I do believe that their best player last year getting hurt made more of a difference than Shota being terrible. You also fail to consider that since then, the Cubs have developed Brown into an ace, acquired another power arm in Cabrera, and are getting "their best pitcher" back later in the year. The rotation is fine when healthy.
  21. If Judge got hurt tomorrow, the Yankees go from being WS contenders to a horrible team. If Kyle Tucker didn't get hurt last year in June/July and his performance falling off a cliff, the Cubs could have made a deep playoff run. I think it gets underestimated how much that one player impacts the whole team. Now, they might not even be a playoff team despite adding that so-called star pitcher in the off-season and replacing Tucker with Bregman. Need to be able to hit home runs in October. It's not just about aesthetics. If Bregman lived up to what he was supposed to be, this wouldn't be my position. Also, let's see what this 6th best offense looks like in a month or two. Last year, it all fell apart in the 2nd half. I hope that doesn't happen again but if it does, perhaps more people will agree with me on the need for more talent in the lineup.
  22. I'll trust the numbers but I personally think there's a disconnect between the numbers and what this offense actually is. They don't have a good enough leadoff hitter, they don't have a guy who can (individually) slug at an elite level. They don't have any young exciting prospects on the way. They don't have any stars except maybe PCA. It's just a very bland offense.
  23. I don't see why this has to be an "either/or" btw. Go and get a pitcher and get a hitter. I want to watch better baseball and there are many holes on this team beyond the rotation.
