I thought they should have taken him out after the HBP or even the batter before that. Like you mentioned, the HR changed the dynamic of that inning.
It seems like a reoccurring thing with him - pretty damn solid for 3 or 4 innings, falls apart in the 5th or 6th inning. Which is understandable because he's a swing starter like you mentioned. But CC needs to have a better plan, IMO
I know the Cubs already have a crowded infield but I wish they had a way of getting CJ Abrams and moving Nico to short... and air dropping Swanson onto the Cardinals
He got caught in between diving and not diving on a fly ball to right, and looked like he tweaked something. Looks like he might have turned his ankle but not sure.
I'm not trying to dog on the Nico extension, I love the player and person dearly, but if Ramirez ends up being legit that move ends up being a bit of a head scratcher.
+ Steele and that's the type of home grown rotation we've been dreaming about for decades. I'm no fan of Jed but this team is definitely legit if not for injuries.
I already know Ben will have a great outing tonight. Been a while since I've had that type of confidence in a Cubs SP. As far as I'm concerned Brown, PCA, Busch are the faces of this org.
The worst part is that the Cubs are locked into this mediocrity for a while. Bregman, Swanson, Hoerner, Cabrera, all here for years to come. Turns out Ricketts was right in previous years not to let Jed spend money.
This has to be one of the worst collapses in MLB regular season history. From 15 games above .500 to a likely <.500 team in like 4 or 5 weeks.
By my count, they have won 7 of their last 29 games
Whatever the Cubs do in July, whether it's buying or selling, I do not trust this GM to get it right or this manager to develop the player. Something is broken with this team. Great HR though
So the Cubs are the most disappointing team in baseball relative to their expectations, while on the South Side the vibes have never been higher in recent memory. The Brewers will win the division by 10+ games again. The Cardinals are good again.
Genuinely don't know what it will take for the Cubs to clean house and fire Hoyer/Counsell, but it's come to the point where everything has to be on the table. Counsell has been so bad lately that I find myself missing Rossy.
haha, fair. I'm not sure what the Guardians would want but I'm certain the Cubs could make it happen if they really wanted him. Wiggins, Rojas, Conrad. whatever.
