  1. Carlos Lee got 17M a year after putting up an average of under 120 OPS+ over the last 4 years, Schmidt has put up an average of over 130 ERA+ over the same period. While Schmidt is older, Lee dresses up like the State Puff Marshmallow man for Halloween and every other day of the year and signed to a longer term contract than Schmidt is rumor to be signed for. The way this market is going with such low depth at all positions, I wouldn't doubt he would recieve an offer in that range. I just hope Hendry is smart enough to not offer him a contract that exceeds 45 million. I would also doubt that he receives an offer in that range. Also, I think he would receive an offer in that range.
  2. He has no-trade protection. It's possible that he might agree to a trade later on if the Cobs aren't especially competitive, but I doubt teams would be all that interested. I don't expect Soriano to be worth his contract in dollars or years. What if we spread some rumors about him leaving early? That pique your interest?
  3. I was hoping this thread was about Mussolini.
  4. Can you tell me how the Cubs front office made Prior's shoulder "loose"? They hired Dusty, Dusty overpitched Prior in '03, Prior's shoulder has never been the same since 211.1 innings in 03. What's the ol' quote..."it's not about the quantity, It's about the quality." Or something like that. Anyway, I don't completely believe in it either, but i have no problem with people making the argument that the Cubs front office has some responsibility for Prior's shoulder problems, at least.

  6. You guys are screwing it up. They're just Fighters. Their sponsor is Nippon Ham. Ah, screw it. They're the Ham Fighters. they fight ham.
  7. We may or may not be at 95 mil, depending on whether you think the New York Times is a reliable source. Bruce Miles carried the same Soriano contract details in his piece today, and he cited the AP as his source. There is no mention of how Soriano's bonus is spread however, so it could be 17 million in 2007, or 10 million with a million per year over 7 more years thereafter. After this new information, let me amend my previous statement: We may or may not be at 95 mil, depending on whether you think the New York Times, Bruce Miles, and the AP are reliable sources.
  8. NSBB is just like elementary school! Agreed. And just think, last offseason everyone was going wild over some barely PG-13 photos of attractive women. This offseason, it's cookies and egg nog. Next year.....?
  9. Ha ha, Bruce for the win. CT should apologize to Bruce, lol. i call for a str8 b&

  11. But why is he in the big leagues still? He has pictures of Bud Selig having relations with a horse. honestly, because MLB GMs are idiots.
  12. I think you've got your years mixed up.
  13. If Howry is what it takes, so be it. Manny in the line-up is 10X more valuable than the 60 IP Howry will throw. I understand the line of thinking. I'm just hoping Eyre gets pushed more than Howry, particularly given the Yankees 5 left-handed hitters in the everyday lineup. Eyre has a limited no-trade clause. My guess is that the Red Sox are not on the no-trade list.
  14. cut your egg nog with milk and you can drink much more of it
  15. get Hawpe, play Soriano in center, wet ourselves.
  16. And Hank breaks the .600 OPS barrier. Give him another $5 mil. He's definitely a better option than Soto.
  17. Definitely Jung Bong, and I'm upset with everyone that's posted and forgotten about him.
  18. it's amazing how inconsistent the voting is. When Sosa won it, people were clamoring for McGwire because of better numbers. Now we see the reverse, with the guy with better numbers losing to the guy on the better team. pujols had a better VORP, a better EqA, better OPS, and a better WARP3. and if anyone who voted knows what 2 of those are, i'll eat my hat please tell me your hat is a PSU football helmet
  19. pierre is gone. jones/murton is unanswered Thank You, the language out of Cubdom is so mirky (merky) that I am afraid the lovable red-head will be sharing duties murky marky (myrky) [morky]
  20. Nothing beats the Montgomery Biscuits
  21. well, it's time for me to make my first appearance
