    Maddux already won the Gold Glove, and unfortunately the Cubs being so bad took away any chance of Z winning the Cy Young. But, I doubt anyone's done the Slugger/Cy double in the same year. This one was easy... Glavine did it in 1991 and 1998. The names that immediately came to mind for me were Maddux (never won one, surprisingly), Glavine and Hampton (finished 2nd in Cy Young voting in 1999). Fernando Valenzuela also won a Silver Slugger the year he won the Cy Young. yeah? well i dare you to name another!

    I recall a month ago when I created a post that said that a Tribune exec. was 99.9% sure the Cubs would be sold before the start of the 2007 season began and was ripped apart as a liar and chastized as a "troller." My post doesn't look so bad anymore does it Giles Bros. and Vince the Cub Fan. The fact that I knew of the impending sale of the Tribune's assets before it was made public was legitimate. Anyway, here is an update from the same source: About 2 weeks ago the Tribune started taking bids on all of their assets from potential investors to gauge the demand/value of each asset. The bidding was to last for 2 weeks and then they were going to have a meeting of the top exec's and make a decision before they presented it to the board of directors at the monthly meeting. This all should happen quickly, oncew the decision is made to sell off the assets and go back to its core competencies because the bidders are already out there. yeah, that vince is a real jerk sometimes

    False. How is it false? Other than they can buy an extra yacht or an extra vacation home or their own private jet? Sounds good to me. I don't think there's any situation where I wouldn't want an extra yacht. If that makes me greedy, oh well.

    I know this has little bearing on our discussion, but is anyone else impressed with the sheer whininess of Ned Colletti? Gee, Ned, Boras made it pretty obvious to you that Drew was deserving of more money, then you never called, and now you're surprised that he's leaving, and you'd like to chalk it up entirely to a lack of integrity? You're an idiot.

    Are you serious? Feliz, Wright, Rolen, Zimmerman > Ramirez. Wright was among the worst fielding 3Bs this year by BBTF's metric. Most scouts and analysts expect Wright to be a very good defensive 3B, but he wasn't this year. Nor was he last year. The discussion almost got me in big trouble, with the big man. God got angry at you for your opinions on David Wright's fielding?

    Correct on all counts. I thought I'd start with just guaranteed contracts. We can add a player and his money when it becomes definitive. Don't worry too much about the Murtons, Cedenos, Marshalls, Hills, etc... Even if the Cubs had 10 of them on the roster, we're talking $4M max. total, since they are all pre-arbitration eligible. I have made estimates on the 3 arbitration eligible Cubs: Zambrano, Prior and Ohman, so I can include them if you want. I would like to hear your estimates for these 3 players.
