    It's almost exactly the same number of value dates as last year. For the last several years they've gotten em out of the way early and then have one value date in late May on a Thursday afternoon. I know because I always skip work that day.

    Good post! The really hardcore fan won't change allegiance, but there are millions of casual fans that could be swayed one way or another. Winning is a good way to generate interest and excitement. How about consistent mediocrity along with ticket price hikes?

    Exactly Badger. That's what X box is for. THanks for the "goal is to win" speech.....I did not realize. Far to often the Cubs have been the team with 0-1-2 runs. You have to be able to score some runs too. And what was I thinking? Enjoy a lineup of Lee, Ramirez, and Tejajda? How dare I. X-box? Ok..at least now I have an idea of the age group Im dealing with. Humbug to you too.

    If Hendry is so dead set on getting rid of Prior, then they should deal him to Boston for Manny and Arroyo. But having said that, I think whoever has Hendry's cell phone service should shut off his phone for a couple weeks, and cancel his email, too. Make him unreachable. Keep him away from phones, if he's going to shop Prior. Maybe he is trying to Dusty Proof the team, but I just cannot believe he'd weaken the biggest strength on the team just because he's afraid Baker won't play Cedeno AND Murton. If this was such a problem, then why be an idiot and sign Perez, just to end up having to deal your 24 year old ace starter because your manager is bloody stupid? If he's panicking because he hasn't really improved the offense, then why weaken the strength you have left to do so? It doesn't make sense. There's no rational reason to be shopping Prior for anything less than a top 5 player in baseball. Maybe Hendry can spin his magic and get BOTH Manny and Tejada.........Hmmm? That aint magic thats fairy dust. [fat joke] I thought it was powdered sugar. [/fat joke]

    When are the Cubs going to trade for another fast outfielder? I mean, Murton was great and all when he came in last year since nobody had the book on him yet, but he's sure to bomb this year. We need another outfielder that's fast and can catch the ball to go with Pierre and Jones! I want it so nobody can get a hit against our outfield next year! -Edward K., Indianapolis, Ind.

    He's always had horrible control...over six walks per nine innings in each of his first two seasons (over 5.6 BB/9 IP for his MLB career). His strikeout rate has dropped off considerably, and he susceptable to the longball. He's simply not a good pitcher at all. Nuff said then. He might be an interesting arm out of the bullpen. Do you mean interesting meaning "he might be able to figure it out" or interesting meaning "let's see how far this one goes"? Because I'd be more inclined to take the latter.

    You know what I would really appreciate? I'd really like it if someone would interrupt my hitting on the drunk Trixie next to me so that I can cheer for Derrek Lee's at-bat.     I just read somewhere that Washburn was going to sign with Seattle for 4 years/$35-40 mil. Doesn't sound like such a decent price to me. Edit: Espn link

    After declining Burnitz's option, we likely could have signed him for that or less (some said $4-5 mil). Burnitz is a bit more valuable than Sanders since he is LH and 2 years younger. The numbers are pretty much a wash. It doesn't make sense to let Burny walk to bring in an older guy to do the same things. We can't sign Burny until after May 1st. So, we can't sign Burny.

    If you're gonna trade Lee, you should really blow it up. That means prospects and not the Lugo and Huff stuff.
