  1. At least Howry is younger and has spectacular peripherals. At 3/$12, he's a steal compared to Eyre. Edit: he's older than I thought. Born in '73. Edit again: and this past year was by far the best of his career. The year before that was also pretty good. before that point....not so great. Kinda like, um, Scott Eyre. i rescind the initial comment
  2. http://espnradio.espn.go.com/espnradio/radio?id=2232579&rate=28&format=wmp toward the very end, 6:45 in
  3. hmmm, it's not all that clear..."Bobby Howry's getting 12 million dollars from the Cubs"...thrown in as an afterthought-type statement.
  4. The PSU-OSU game earlier this year was ESPN's second highest-rated game every, topped only by Free Shoes U versus Miami in 1994... and both those games are obviously very regional in nature. In college football, prestige and storylines matter more for ratings than anything else. In PSU and Notre Lame, you've got two teams returning to powerhouse status, probably the most prominent coach in the game, and another coach who is becoming one of the biggest names in college football. Plus, one school with a ton of alumni, and the other school with a very large following. ND gets the best TV ratings, but PSU is very close behind them. Unless there's another game that I'm forgetting, I really do think a PSU-ND matchup would be the highest rated non-championship BCS game ever. This is precisely why you won't see a PSU-ND game. They want to spread out the heavy TV hitters.
  5. Bill Swerski: Now, gentlemen, let me ask you this: What if Da Bears were all 14 inches tall, you know, about so high? Now, what's your score of today's game? Carl Wollarski: Against Da Giants? Bill Swerski: Yes, give 'em a handicap. Carl Wollarski: Bears 18, Giants 10. And that would finally be a good game. Pat Arnold: Yeah, it would be a good game. Mini Bears 24, Giants 14. Todd O'Conner: What about Ditka? Would he be mini, too? Bill Swerski: No, he would be full-grown. Todd O'Conner: Oh, then, uh.. Mini Bears 31, Giants 7. Carl Wollarski: Oh, hold on. Then I change mine, too. I thought it was Mini Ditka.
  6. Notre Dame deserves to go to the Motor City bowl, and that is all.... ...waits patiently for explosion...
  7. me
  8. Ritalin is mythelphenidate, it is in the same family as Adderall. They are both CNS stimulants. Ah, that's quite a far-reaching family you have there. it also contains LSD, cocaine, Tylenol and coffee.
  9. The amphetamine prescribed for ADD is Adderall. Eyre takes Ritalin.
  10. From a webpage about baseball rules: A team can also designate a player for assignment. This method is used when a team needs to open a spot on the 40-man roster, but isn’t quite sure what to do with the player. A “DFA” player is taken off the 40-man roster immediately, but then sits in limbo for up to ten days, during which time the team can try to trade him. If the player isn’t traded, the team must release him or put him on waivers. If he clears waivers, he can be sent to the minor leagues (though again, if he has 5 years or more of MLB experience, he can declare free agency).
  11. I'm thinking they just don't have to assign him to a specific minor league roster right now, but have taken him off the 40 man, thus it's a DFA and they figure out where to put him later.
  12. Are you counting Eyre or not?
  13. Is that the "you have 10 days to trade him" move? If another team picks him up, he has to stay on their 25 man roster the whole year (either that, or the DL). If he doesn't stick, he gets returned to us, and the team gets a little money out of the deal. that's the rule 5 process, he was talking about designating for assignment, which is defined as removal from the 40 man roster without immediate assignment to a minor league roster.
  14. According to the 40 man post from ChiefsVoice, he did not (see transcations forum)
  15. Is that the "you have 10 days to trade him" move? You have ten days to trade him if he refuses assignment. Only "veterans" can refuse assignment. Greenberg doesn't have enough service time to refuse assignment, I don't think
  16. He can get picked up in the Rule 5 draft.
  17. Reposted in transactions. We might want to merge threads or something. Sorry for the extra work, mods, I just figured it would get more views there.
  18. Added: Felix Pie Carlos Marmol Sean Marshall Scott Moore Brian Dopirak Jose Reyes Ricky Nolasco J. Kuk-Ryu Fontenot, Lewis and Rohlicek were outrighted to Iowa and Greenberg was designated for assignment.
  19. ooooo. Interesting. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see someone pick up Fontenot. I'm reposting this in transactions, by the way
  20. But does he go and talk to the pitchers?
  21. I would say i feel validated, somewhat.
  22. Now that i agree with, but to say that he hasn't been unreliable...not really true. And to say that he's been reliable while Farnsworth was not is not an arguable point.
  23. What other word could you use to describe him? He's got good stuff, and at times could have a great outing. But overall he sucked. His WHIP was 1.6. That's the very definition of reliable. If he was reliable, you would be willing to bet pretty good money that he'd put up a solid line next season, and I would be willing to bet there aren't many people willing to do that. He's unreliable. You have no idea what he'll give you next year, or on a day-to-day basis. Inconsistent would be a better word. I'm not ready to hand him the closer's role or anything. But considering his stuff, his age, and his low pricetag, I have no problem with him in the bullpen. He certainly doesn't have to be the first, second, or even third person used. Let's face it, with Dusty managing, this team is probably going to carry 12 pitchers for at least a few months of the season. I'd rather him be the 11th or 12th man, than someone making $3 million+ a year who isn't guaranteed to perform much better than Novoa. I don't see how anything you wrote refutes the statement that Novoa is unreliable. Is he unreliable or completely unreliable as you initially stated? Just curious, because to me there is a difference. Farnsworth was unreliable. He was capable of being great, and he was capable of being downright awful. Felix Heredia was completely unreliable. Although I guess if you were relying on him to be awful, then you could view him as reliable. Novoa strung together some good outings last season. He needs to cut back on the walks a bit. I'm optimistic he can do that after looking at his walk rates in the minors. There is no way you can say Farnsworth was unreliable and Novoa was not.
