  1. I am serious. And don't call me Shirley. Something tells me you were hoping that someday, someone was going to say that, so you could make this joke. Whatever...it's funny anyway!!   I don't actually wait for it, but I've seen the movie so many times that it's a completely ingrained reaction on my part to make that response now.

  3. According to the Globe red sox site, Jim Hendry is an option as their new GM.
  4. Don't be baffled, it happens to others that USED to post here regularly. The funny part is all the name calling and second guessing of Hendry, people still wonder why he won't post here or answer questions on the site. My question to you is, if you were Hendry, would you? You know, i was just wondering why hendry doesn't post on this website. There are so many GMs that post on so many fan sites throughout sports, and I was wondering why hendry hasn't joined them. Keep the thread about the transaction. Leave out all the personal stuff and the sarcasm, please. I'm trying to. i don't exactly enjoy the fact that because I've hated the past two seasons and hated the signings so far this offseason (much like most of the other posters on the board), i and these other posters get attacked with the "culture of negativity" argument. I feel like people should stop attacking the posters that are being negative just for being negative and instead take a look at why they are down on the Cubs. I'd certainly like to not be pessimistic about my favorite team, but I don't see much reason not to be. $3.66 mil a year for 3 years on a semi-reliable reliever coming off of a career year, and whose best use is already provided by a player at one tenth his cost that the Cubs already have under contract, is not a good use of resources.

  6. If we have to say that after every signing (and we have), I don't think it's true anymore. What about it isn't true? They signed Neifi for pretty much the same amount he got paid last year, Rusch for a slight raise and Eyre and Dempster combined can't be much (if any) more than Remmy and Hawkins. That still leaves at least the Nomar, Burnitz and Sosa money to burn. As long as you're counting on none of our younger players getting their requisite raises, nor anyone that has a contract that goes up in value (like, say, most of our players) having their contract go up in value.
  7. He had the third lowest WHIP of guys with less than 8 K/9 that throw with their left hand.
  8. i guess they really are going to attempt the White Sox method.
  9. When all 30 teams express interest, and there are at least a half dozen serious chasers, and you manage to land a guy that fast....you can be fairly assured that your bid was wayyyyy too high.
  10. if you've already got an arm in the bullpen that will give lefties fits (at $350k, mind you), is it really financially wise to get another lefty to perform mostly redundant functions at $3 million for 3 seasons?
  11. see, that's why you're better than everyone else. Most of us don't like good players signing with our team.
  12. Aren't we just one year removed from Hendry's unequivocable assertion that Chemistry wins pennants? Yeah, but that was last year. Now catching the ball wins pennants. Okay, that joke is probably "played" at this point. I still like it. And by "like it", I mean makes me smirk and then immediately want to shoot myself.
  13. No hard money or years data yet. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2227115
  14. the Giants' AGM edit: damn, beaten to it
  15. Exactly, if the Olympics can test for it, congress should push around MLB some more and get this included as well. I am curious to see what testing pitchers for meth will do. Meth? Yep, methamphetamines/crystal meth It is the most common drug used in MLB, pitchers are the dominant user of it. you sure you don't mean amphetamines (aka uppers/pills/greenies)? Crystal meth is a recreational drug that's snorted or smoked. it's also the reason why you can't buy Sudafed without getting it from a pharmacist behind the counter. Not trying to get off-topic, but are you sure about this? I've always bought my Sudafed straight off the shelf at Walgreens. In some places they still sell it on the shelves, but in a lot of places (basically the entire rural midwest) they've moved it behind the counter. Pseudoephedrine is a meth precursor.

  19. For the Cubs without Lee: .262/.308/.413 that's right, .308 OBP. yes. We need better defense.
  20. You, sir are wrong. 30-some baseball writers prove it. Andruw Jones has the next most legitimate case to Pujols for this year, based on his, um, comparable, um, I have no idea.
  21. It's on the front page of ESPN.com Here's the story: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2224756 Looks like Andruw Jones finished second.
