    He actually said that he's the most influential person who's ever played in Yankee Stadium. If he honestly believes that, I would like some of whatever powerful narcotic he's taking. He couldn't even carry Babe Ruth's jock when it comes to influence. Babe Ruth didn't play in this Yankee Stadium. But yeah, what?

    Orton also MASSIVELY upgraded offensive linemen. Ryan Clady would easily be better than any lineman on the Bears since I started rooting for the team in 1993. REC, YDS, Y/P, Y/G, TDs Brandon Marshall: 29 332 11.4 55.3 4 Devin Hester: 28 373 13.3 62.2 3 Earl Bennett: 23 305 13.3 50.8 0 Johnny Knox: 21 266 12.7 44.3 3 Jabar Gaffney: 18 242 13.4 40.3 0 Eddie Royal: 18 148 8.2 24.7 0 I would bet that the O-Line is making a bigger difference then Marshall, who is about equal to Hester in stats right now. Overall, Cutler has made a bigger difference to these WR's then Marshall has to Orton.

    If I was a Cards fan I would be more worried about them hiring a guy who hasn't been a hitting coach at a professional level before. Its one thing to work with a few players in the off-season, but to actually be the hitting coach could be completely different for McGwire.

    While true, most people don't care about steroids anymore, I think it will be a little different with McGwire. The way he handled himself at the end of his career regarding steroids, and then just falling off the face of the baseball world, hes definitely going to get alot of questions in spring training. How he handles himself there will probably have a big effect on how long those questions continue to get asked. "I'm not here to talk about the past..."

    So we should keep Lovie because he refuses to adjust his scheme to fit his personnel? That is a great reason to keep a coach.

    I think today's loss was just a bump in the road. They will be a .500 team at the end of the year and they are right there now. Lovie and his staff have had one of the best records since he started as head coach. And they have had far worse talent than the other teams around them. Is Lovie a great coach? No. But he has had one of the best records with just barely above average talent. I would like to see what he can do with good talent. He had two good years in 05 and 06. Since then the team has been mediocre, going 7-9, 9-7, and now 3-3. He is a mediocre coach. Now, I highly doubt he will be gone before his contract is up in 2011, but don't act like he is anything more then what he is, and don't get all high and mighty just because fans want a great coach, especially when Shanahan and company are available. The talent Lovie is given is worse than Lovie's coaching ability. And? That doesn't mean that we should be satisfied with Lovie. And I argue that the talent he has and his ability are about par with each other.

    Quit being so dense. Dense is saying that the Bears need to change their scheme after one bad game. No one does this. dense is pretending that people on this board are just now calling for a change in the coaching staff. dude i rarely even go in bears threads and i know a lot of the posters here want a change. Were they calling for one when they were 3-1? With the players the Bears have, they are only 8-8 or 9-7. The coaching staff can't get any more than that out of them. The Bears need new players more than a new staff. 1. When the Bears were 3-1, people still wanted Turner gone and were still questioning Lovie's defensive scheme, who hadn't done anything to change that and now faces an uphill battle to regain any confidence. 2. The necessity of new players does not change the necessity of a new staff. 3. Lovie has always seemed over matched as a head coach. This is not new sentiment, and has become strikingly evident this year. 4. How has this staff done anything to warrant keeping it in place as is?

    who was calling them the best team in football? a lot of people? Including football outsiders? that's very reactionary then I haven't heard "best in football" but I have heard them referred to as the team to beat in the NFC.

    You change defensive systems by firing the coach who won't adjust to his players. Meatball. The defensive has bad players. No system can fix that. To make ridiculous coaching changes with Urlacher, Pisa, and Tommie hurt is the epitomy of buffoonery. what the [expletive] is a meatball A meatball is a ball of ground meat and other ingredients, such as bread or breadcrumbs, minced onion, various spices, and possibly eggs, rolled together by hand, and cooked by frying, baking, steaming, or braising in sauce.

    Correct. I'm more frustrated by the play of the lines. The problem isn't the secondaries personnel, its the scheme. The secondary would be more successful in a man or man/zone scheme, but Lovie refuses to change. The d-line isn't bad, but the Bengals can keep 6/7 blockers in on a 4 man rush because the secondary scheme leaves so many holes. The o-line and the o-coord need to be canned.

    Yeah, that's how I feel about this. I hope the Bears lose out, because if you are not going to win to a level that at least makes the playoffs, then lose and make changes. Lovie needs to go. He refuses to make changes and that is unacceptable.

    The cover-2 requires you have very good, fast d-backs, especially at the safety position, otherwise it will fail. Smith refuses todo anything else, and should be fired for that.

    Heh wtf? The video screen wasn't working. I can't remember what game it was but I saw it happen a couple years ago. Do they still lose the timeout and challenge then?
