  1. I must add that having NFL RedZone network freaking rocks.
  2. And washing your car. And putting on cowboy boots. And ironing shirts you are currently wearing. And removing shrink wrap from DVDs. And lifting pillows. And carrying a deer carcass up a flight of stairs. And being run over by automatic tarp machines. Don't forget making sure to state how a player lies while sleeping so he doesn't sleep on his eye wrong.
  3. Well, rain killed the finale, so now we go to San Diego where Ted Lilly makes his comeback. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/1zyj336jpg.gif Theodore Roosevelt Lilly http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/150404.jpg 9-7 3.59 vs. Kevin Correia http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/429781.jpg 8-9 4.51 The Basics: Lilly is back and owned Single-A batters. Correia is decidedly average. The Good: Lilly is back and looked really sharp in his rehab outing. The Bad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/15efqrd-6d3.gif The Ugly: A ground ball pitcher vs. the Cubs I really have nothing to say down here, so here's 2 random images: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/6fotilu.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/ball.gif
  4. Another win? [http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/nph.gif (even if it is only over the Indianapolis Indians...er Pittsburgh Pirates.) So anyway, if the entire team beat the Pirates on Friday, Baker, Gorz, and Guzman did it Saturday. On to Sunday! Ohlendorf http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/456027.jpg 10-8 4.30 Harden http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/425848.jpg 7-7 4.30 The Basics: Ohlendorf is doing better in the second half, Harden is doing even better than that. The Good: Ohlendorf may be hurt, Harden is frick'n Harden again. The Bad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/gifbinspringboardjump2.gif The Ugly: Last time the Cubs faced Ohlendorf, he shut them down, allowing only 4 hits and no runs in 7 innings. Well, hopefully the Cubs win again, and if you are going to the game, don't be this idiot: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/hat-fail.jpg
  5. Fred reminded me (yes, Hornkohl said "kewl") that today was my day after not being able to get to the computer from 11 am till 3 am Thursday/Friday. So here it goes. Duke http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/435043.jpg 9-10, 3.40 AT Gorz http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/gameday/mugshots/mlb/452733.jpg 4-2, 6.23 The Basics: Duke sucks because the Pirates suck. Gorz sucks because he was hit by a ball and Tulowitzki is good. The Good: The Pirates still suck and Gorz doesn't have to face Tulo. The Bad: Duke usually does good against the Cubs in Wrigley. The Ugly: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/Luuuuuugggggggoooooo.jpg So lets crank it up to http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/upto11.jpg and hope the Cubs stay hot so that they don't end up in the http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/sweetpeteman/great.gif
  6. http://entertainmentweakly.com/VICKYGRABMEABEER2.gif
  7. Nope, actually hasn't given up any. He was used only as a reliever and gave up 5 ER in 3 appearances, but none in the other 6. His BABIP is around .250...a career low for him but not completely outrageous just a little low. Yeah, but once again, its only 8.1 IP, so that really doesn't give a complete picture. I'm sure it will climb, but also his ERA is still likely to go down. At most Gorz will be a high 3, low 4 era, 1.2-1.4 whip, 6-8 K/9 type lefty, or basically a little bit below to equal Ted Lilly.
  8. This isn't personal ranking, this is where I think they stand in the voting, and Happ seems to be getting more press, but that may change (and I could easily be wrong). Its really going to come down to which one of Happ/Wells finishes stronger. I don't think McCutchen or any of the other batters are going to do enough to really merit strong consideration and Hanson is already behind in wins, IP, K, ERA, whatever and probably won't be able to do enough, without going on some ridiculous run, to win.
  9. ROY Race in the NL: In the running to win (In what I feel is the current order): J.A. Happ, PHI, 7-2, 2.97 ERA, 1.160 WHIP, 76K, 144 ERA+ in 106 IP Randy Wells, CHC, 8-4, 2.73 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 65 K, 154 ERA+ in 102.1 IP Tommy Hanson, ATL, 5-2, 3.25 ERA, 1.382 WHIP, 41K, 128 ERA+ in 61 IP Andrew McCutchen, PIT, .292 AVG, .347 OBP, .484 SLG, .831 OPS, 123 OPS+ in 239 PA (6 HR, 14 2B, 5 3B, 9 SB) On the outside looking in: Colby Rasmus, STL, .252 AVG, .307 OBP, .426 SLG, .732 OPS, 93 OPS+ in 341 PA (11 HR, 19 2B, 1 3B, 1 SB) Chris Coghlan, FLA, .259 AVG, .343 OBP, .376 SLG, .719 OPS, 92 OPS+ in 291 PA (5 HR, 13 2B, 1 3B, 5 SB) Everth Cabrera, SD, .265 AVG, .346 OBP, .401 SLG, .747 OPS, 108 OPS+ in 186 PA (1 HR, 9 2B, 5 3B, 13 SB) Geraldo Parra, ARI, .274 AVG, .313 OBP, .415 SLG, .728 OPS, 86 OPS+ in 292 PA (5 HR, 9 2B, 7 3B, 4 SB) Dexter Fowler, COL, .254 AVG, .357 OBP, .389 SLG, .717 OPS, 85 OPS+ in 386 PA (4 HR, 21 2B, 5 3B, 21 SB) Could affect the vote: Jake Fox, CHC, .308 AVG, .347 OBP, .607 SLG, .954 OPS, 141 OPS+ in 121 PA (8 HR, 8 2B) Kenshin Kawakami, ATL, 5-8, 4.37 ERA, 1.390 WHIP, 95 ERA+ in 105 IP (And is 34 years old, so some voters will be hesitant to even include him) Danny Herrera, CIN, 2.70 ERA(Reliever, so may not get much attention) Ramon Troncoso, LAD, 1.99 ERA(Reliever, so may not get much attention) Ronald Belisario, LAD, 2.42 ERA(Reliever, so may not get much attention) Jesse Chavez, PIT, 3.71 ERA(Reliever, so may not get much attention) Luke Gregerson, SD, 3.06 ERA(Reliever, so may not get much attention) Jordan Zimmermann, WSH, 3-5, 4.63 ERA, 1.358 WHIP 93 ERA+ in 91.1 IP Could affect the vote due to voters being morons: Pablo Sandoval, SF. Lost his rookie status last year. Note: There is no such thing as "Qualify" for minimum IP/PA for ROY, only disqualify if over certain amount in previous years.
  10. Nope, actually hasn't given up any. He was used only as a reliever and gave up 5 ER in 3 appearances, but none in the other 6.
  11. While I'm not going to say he'll be the next [insert name of really good pitcher of choice here], I would rather look at his minor league line of: 2.48 ERA, 1.184 WHIP, 2.83 K/BB, 8.8K/9, 73 H in 87 IP then your single game anecdote. So I do have hope he could be successful against the Reds.
  12. C'mon Gorz, be as good as you are in my MVP2005 game. (2.85 ERA in 180 IP, 135K to 41BB, thats all the stats they give you)
  13. Rasmus was helped a lot by a very good June, but otherwise has only been OPSing around .700. McCutchen has held steady at about .775 for two months. Right now its probably Hanson, Wells, Rasmus, and McCutchen in the running for ROY, I can't think of any other rookie who is in position to contend.
  14. I'm not as worried about Holliday after looking at his stats this year. He's lost over 100 OPS points from the three year average 06-08 (.979 to .831) with most of the loss coming in power. Now getting out of Oakland should help, right? Except 7 of his 11 homers have come at home (home OPS .877, SLG .497). In fact, his road OPS (46 games, 204 PA) is .788 (SLG .416). Yeah, he should rebound moving to a better park in a division that has more hitters parks and no safeco and not playing in Oakland, but also consider this. His career Home/Road splits are a 1.047 Home OPS and a .801 Rd OPS. Now he has had a "hot" July... or I should say one game against the Twins, where he went 4-5 with 2Hr and 2Db. Without that game, he is batting: BA .301 OBP .362 SLG .428 OPS .790 with 5 Doubles and 1 Hr for July. Of course, he is going to St Louis, so he will be batting .350 with a 1.000 OPS soon anyways.
  15. The end of 2004 was all the frustration of 2005 and 2006 distilled into a couple of weeks. 2006 wasn't all that frustrating since we came into the year knowing the team was going to suck, so there was no frustration, just laughter.
  16. Looks like we may have put the nail in Julian Tavarezes coffin. And the 600-pounder just dumped you.
  17. Eh, its more the fault of the bull pen then of Lou. If Guz had been able to get either Nieves or Kearns, then Marshall should be able to handle the seventh, Marmol the eighth, and Gregg the ninth. Now I would have left Wells in for the sixth, esp. with 2 outs in the top of the inning when he was up to bat and with the 6-7-8 spots due up. He was only at 85 pitches and had handled the last two innings decently.
  18. While he might not have "walked" a batter, he still did since he hit Willingham with ball 4.
  19. Sorry, I don't have a count on that. Now, 10.
  20. I used to make everyone in the office angry whenever I made my weekly trip to Velvet Freeze for Wonder Dogs. The stench was amazing. But damn, those were some good hot dogs. If you ever find yourself in Peoria, look for a Velvet Freeze and order a half dozen Wonder Dogs. Yes, you can actually eat 6 of 'em. They are that good. I've lived in Peoria for about 5 years now or so (college and after) and I have yet to go to the one in CampusTown, despite the fact that I am only like a minute away from it.
  21. I'm looking up Ryan's bio and yes he does have a brother named Shawn, but that Jordan Zimmerman has a brother name Jeff. Jeff Zimmerman actually looked like he was going to be a pretty decent pitcher for the Rangers until his arm exploded.
  22. not looking good it's the OMC sports curse. Cubs, Rebels, and Saints. None of my teams ever do crap. I kind of have the same issue, except my teams like to be successful to a point, and then punch me in the face.
  23. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/asgbox/yr1971as.shtml Beckert, Fergie Jenkins, Don Kessinger, and some guy named Ron Santo represented the Cubs.
  24. Bradley, Baker(Font?), Hoff... They'll get it done.
