I could see Hoyer offering 7-8 years but with options the last 2 or 3, but who knows, being that he'll be 28 in May, maybe he'll want to test the FA market again in 2-3 years and accept a shorter deal.

Hoyer likes to puzzle piece his bullpen every year with guys under the radar on 1 year cheap cost deals , but yea it would be nice if by doing that hed spend on an impact player or two on a starting pitcher and or everyday player.

Crazy looking at the Cubs payroll for 2027 2028 and 2029, their current guarenteed contracts is just 39 30 and 26 mil total for those seasons, with Swanson being the bulk of it 28 27 and all of it 26 mil in 2029. How is that even possible in today's MLB for what supposed to be a big market team, to only have one guarenteed major contract for the next 3 seasons and he not even a big star player... There is absolutely zero excuse for this

Id expect the next two days could be pretty busy with some players and teams wanting to get deals/trades done before the holidays. I hope Hoyer has something good cooking

If im the Sox, I have him taking batting practice everyday in ST against guys and machine throwing over 95 so he can get used to it and work on timing.... I will be interested in watching him hit and see how he looks

Yea I did a search just to see, I can see why this guy probably didn't get many offers, he is likely going to struggle big against alot of bullpen arms and most starters... Japan's NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball), their average fastball is around 91-92 MPH, lower than MLB's ~94 MPH but rapidly increasing, with top pitchers hitting 95+ MPH, showing a significant jump in velocity recently. Key Points for NPB Fastball Velocity: General Average: Around 91.5 - 92 MPH in recent years. Growth: Velocity in Japan is increasing faster than in MLB. Comparison: Still lags MLB's average (around 93.6-94.2 MPH) but closing the gap. Elite Pitchers: Top NPB arms can reach speeds comparable to MLB (95+ MPH). So, expect fastball speeds in the low 90s for the average in Japan's top league, with upward trends.

Im trying to figure out how this guy had an OPS over 1.000 if he cant hit a fastball over 93 mph. Do they not have many pitchers in the league that can throw a fastball over 93? I'd love to see a breakdown of this

I wonder if Imai will choose tomorrow or Tuesday to get it done before the holidays, im sure he'd rather stay home in Japan and not have to travel during Christmas and NewYears, his deadline is January 2nd.

There are alot of utility players between 25-30 that becomes FA every year. Again, not saying it a bad sign, we dont know, was just saying how Hoyer loves to sign older utility and bullpen guys.

Don't need to be young guys, but point is he can find younger guys to fill utility roles that been doing it. Im not complaining about the sign, just pointed out how he likes to sign mid 30s guys. And dumping 1-2 mil may not seem much if they don't pan out but doesn't it still go towards payroll and just mean he needs to find another guy and pay him too ?

Be right up Hoyer ally.. Give him 20 per which would put them around 225, spend a couple more on a bullpen arm and call it an offseason saying the rest is for in season moves.. 😏😏😏

It just the fact that Hoyer loves his old guys for the bench and bullpen. We'll see how it pans out but right now their two main utility guys are Kingery and Austin, both in their 30s with a combined 5 years of mlb service time.
