Cubs should revamp most of this roster for 2025, there isn't much that I would hold onto.

Weren't they supposed to be competing this year ? he's not looking to add rental players this deadline, he's looking to add guys that can be a part of the team in 2025 and beyond.. that likely means trading for prospects that are ready or near ready, or for younger major league players under team control. If he didn't get the green light from Rickett to splurge and go over the Threshold this last offseason, I doubt he'll get to do it in his final contract year.

He only 25, so the years or opt outs could depend on if he wants another crack at Free Agency at age 29 or 30. But I think he'd want at least 35 per

If they're actually gonna get players this offseason to compete in 2025, then yes by all means keep Taillon, but my gut tells me that not going to be the case. So, why hold onto a 33 yo with 2 years left on his contract ? If they can get a decent return for him then make the deal. If rumors are true, there are several teams interested, so they could get a decent return for him and likely free up 36 mil over 2 seasons.

His players are failing him, all he can do is write out a lineup and use the guys he has, it's up to them to execute.

I already said they can use it towards a bat but they can also put it towards an under 30 SP Taillon not exactly an innings eater, he's replaceable.

If it'll take 36 mil off the book, I bet he would, and it doesn't have to be A ball.

With the SP in their system, I think the Cubs would be ok getting a mid prospect or two in return while removing his 36 mil off the book. They can use that money towards a bat then

Is 18 mil per over the next 2 years really too much for a 3/4 starter?

Teams like the Yankees, Braves, Dodgers, maybe even the Orioles now will make that deal, 18 mil for the next 2 years won't hurt them.

Right, I would imagine we'll start seeing some trades for SP come this weekend as teams would want to have that extra start from traded pitcher if their spot comes up before the deadline.

They also won't go over the Threshold, so I'm not sure what team will just unload someone that is good and under a team friendly contract that will keep the Cubs under the Threshold. I see what Hoyer said as an excuse not to add anyone of significance, and just say there wasn't anyone available for trade that he was looking for.

Trading Steele now would pretty much mean they're giving up on 2025 too, and I just don't see them doing that unless the return brings from the trading team two of their top 5 prospects. Cubs aren't far off from actually competing next year IF hoyer can make good moves, they have Steele and Imanaga with a couple of good young arms for the rotation and bullpen. They just need to add another reliable SP, a closer, and add a couple of solid bats to the lineup.

Imanaga (30) and Steele (29) are the two guys you build around now. I don't think there's a true Ace available via FA unless Cole opts out, but I'd like to see them add a solid veteran SP to go with Steele and Imanaga. Then go with two of these guys to fill out the bottom of rotation. Assad(27) Wicks(24) Brown(24) Kilian(27) Wesneski(26) Horton(22) Franklin (24)

That the problem with this team that I've been saying all along, they have a bunch of guys that will look good for a few games and make you think they figured it out but then go cold for a long stress.
