    Christian Franklin learning to get the ball in the air without sacrificing his contact rates is a fun development. I've thought for a while he'd be a nice bench piece long term but if he's not burning a ton of worms there's a shot at an everyday caliber player.

    James Triantos has 4 steals early in Iowa's 8th game. Would love him to hit 50 this year after slowing down the stretch last year and falling short.

    Patrick Corbin is really bad. That said the biggest component to that is his propensity to give up dongs. So I wouldn't be shocked if he has a decent night tonight. That said Taillon should look superficially strong in tonight's weather too. Just this game isn't the gimme it might be closer to Memorial Day.

    I don't see any reason to think it won't be PCA.

    I think you dump Workman when one of three things happens: 1. One of the Iowa kids starts popping off and you want the roster spot 2. PCA's struggles against lefties reach a point that you want to add a dedicated RHH CF to more proactively platoon him 3. We've got another month or so of Workman looking this helpless

    With Corbin and Mahle going the next two games it is a pretty decent opportunity for another sweep. That'd really be nice to bank those wins because this upcoming west coast trip looks extremely tough.

    Flexor Strains generally require a recovery measured in months, not weeks. Brewers rotation is Peralta and pray for rain now

    JP Wheat with one walk and 4 K's in 4 innings? That'll do. Mathis has DH'd both games so far. I'm hoping him being at Myrtle is more or less any rehab assignment and he'll go to SB when he's a little healthier and the weather is a little warmer. Honestly exact same deal for Carico too while I'm thinking about it.

    Cam Smith has a 43% K rate and a 67% groundball rate. I've never seen those numbers combine for over 100 before (though it's obviously possible because they have different denominators). Maybe the minor leagues are necessary. Who knew?

    Cubs play the Dbacks again in two weeks so unless this is a minimum length stay he will miss that series

    Nick Pivetta with the wind blowing in is a really tough matchup since his one weakness is dongs. That said Boyd's a flyball pitcher too so this should be another low scoring game. Hopefully we can defense and baserunning our way past them again.

    Matt Shaw was horrific in Japan and IMO a bundle of nerves. But he's got a 113 wRC+ and nearly even walks and strikeouts since getting back stateside. On top of that he's got a .341 xwOBA to a .322 wOBA domestically, so I'm not sure the luck argument holds either. There are some ugly swings, he's getting beat in-zone more than I'd like, but I don't see any reason he should be at Iowa.

    Wicks sat 93 and got 15 swings and misses tonight. I won't say I don't care about the rest, but I'm pretty close to not caring about the rest.

    Just two starts but Leiter's been incredibe to start the year and looked like he was breaking out. Now we miss him and get gifted Patrick Corbin. This April has been the opposite of early last year. Early last year we got the teeth of every single rotation we faced, now it's the opposite.

    May the last two years was a strength of schedule thing IMO. So the team *should* be having that dip right now if it were to happen. That said last year's dip lasted through June well after the schedule let up so 🤷

    Randy Vasquez is bad. Really really bad. That said I'm worried that this team is due for a game where they get BABIP'd, and the weather today certainly wouldn't combat that.

    Owen Caissie has 9 balls in play this season. 7 are 100+ MPH, only 1 has been on the ground

    Velo a little lower in the 2nd, but still averaged 96. Guessing that's more legit and he was amped in the 1st. Still nice quick efficient inning.
