  1. Robert Mays of the Ringer has talked about how coverage linebackers who are fast are becoming more valuable with the way offenses are changing (RPOs, more emphasis on slot guys. RB passes, etc.). It still probably doesnt make ILB a priority position, but maybe it is not as low on the positional spectrum as it used to be. I think the Bears are sitting pretty for round 2. I'd be ecstatic with Landry, Hernandez, or Sutton, and still pretty happy with the other guys Wrigley22 mentioned. I hope Pace doesn't trade down, or at least not more rhan a handful of spots.
  2. Coincidentally, Matt Miller says we might take McGlinchey at 8 if Nelson is gone. That's a guy who should go in the teens or early 20's. That being said, there is a lot of talk that Pace wants to recoup the 3rd he lost in the Trubisky trade. And if Nelson is gone at 8, there are at least a half dozen defensible choices, which would lend itself to trading down a few spots.
  3. The offense numbers on FG aren't position adjusted. It's basically wOBA (less the constant that scales it to OBP) * PAs + Baserunning runs
  4. I think It's fair to say that it is pretty cool that Bauer takes an engineer's approach to pitching and pitching mechanics. I also think it's fair to say that Bauer should be happy the whole baseball thing worked out, because he has given no indication that he actually has the intelligence to have made a good engineer.
  5. The first week or two was insane. I lived just east of Halsted and could hear the noise from inside, and if i stepped out onto my back deck it was clear as day. After that they lowered it to a more reasonable level where I couldn't hear it inside, and outside it wasn't too much louder than general crowd noise.
  6. Wilson + Rain means minimum six walks this inning
  7. I make it a point to not get too excited or too disappointed in anybody until about Memorial Day, but Heyward has me cautiously optimistic.
  8. Todd McShay put out a draft buzz article this morning, and it has got some interesting tidbits in it. http://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2018/insider/story/_/id/23290452/todd-mcshay-2018-nfl-draft-buzz-everything-hearing-top-prospects-teams-picks -Browns are taking a QB at 1, increasingly looking like Allen -Giants are NOT planning on trading down. Sounds like they want Darnold if he's there, otherwise one of Barkley/Chubb -Jets are taking a QB (duh), sounds like Darnold is their top choice -Browns are taking Barkley/Chubb at 4, people aren't sure who they'd take if both are available -Broncos like Chubb and Mayfield, and will likely trade back if both are gone -No notes on the Colts -"[Derwin] James going to Tampa Bay seems like the worst-kept secret in the NFL right now." And then here is his blurb on the Bears Taken all together, it makes it look like Nelson will make it to the Bears unless the Colts take him. If only 3 QBs go before the Bears pick, which looks increasingly unlikely, the Bears will look to trade back.
  9. I'm so here for Javy at leadoff and the Soriano-related PTSD it will trigger in all the Dave Kaplan types
  10. Keith Law released his initial Top 50 this morning. He says to expect a run on college guys to open the draft, since after Casey Mize no one has really differentiated themselves on talent. Of the guys he has ranked in our vicinity, I think I like Noah Naylor. Law comped him to Brett Lawrie as a frontline athlete who can hit but doesn't really have a position yet.
  11. That's what I figured. I don't hate Bellamy, I just wish he would drop less passes when he gets forced into to receiving lineup. I'd this guy drops less, I'll like him more than Bellamy. Still would like an upgrade at the slot. Agreed. Maybe Christian Kirk will fall to the 2nd round... At least one of Kirk/Sutton/DJ Moore will likely be there for our 2nd pick.
  12. It looks like trading with the Bills for 22, 53, and 56 would be about right as well. I really want Quenton Nelson, but I wouldn't be surprised if getting someone like Will Hernandez plus two more picks is a lot better from a sabermetric (is it still called that when we're talking football?) perspective.
  13. Parking is pretty decent around Logan Square, but going from there to and from the field is a huge pain. I used to live in Logan while dating my future wife who was in Wrigleyville. Going west to east in Chicago is the worst. Your best option is probably uber. That or do intermediate activities off the red or brown line. For example take the blue line downtown in the morning, do whatever touristy stuff you're into, and then grab the red line to the game.
  14. DJ Wilson looks fun [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. Passan's weird. I generally think that aside from Grant Brisbee (who is going for something WAY different) he's the best baseball writer out there right now. But he will jump at any chance he gets to write that the sky is falling. Like the tone with which he wrote about free agency this winter was more dire than what the Washington Post uses to write about the president. He was the same way with the "Tommy John epidemic" a few spring trainings ago
  16. Relevant to the Nelson discussion: https://www.theringer.com/2018/4/5/17200244/quenton-nelson-notre-dame-draft-prospect-top-five-pick
  17. Maybe the most frustrating thing to me about Heyward is that even when you just need a weak ground ball to second, that's when he pops up or K's. When you just want anything but a double play, he hits the ball 105 mph on the ground right at an infielder.

  19. I'm glad you said this because i thought I was going crazy
  20. I think he's a guy that even when he's going right is always a little wild.
  21. It’s going to be an exhilarating race to 84 to 86 wins for the Cardinals and a 2nd place finish [tweet] [/tweet] Holy horsefeathers I love Grant so much
