  1. Holy hell that was beautiful by Heyward
  2. Kyle In July 34 IP, 37 H, 5 BB, 33 K, 3 HR, 3.44 ERA Looks like his crappy June was just a blip. Quintana also seemed fixed prior to yesterday, so hopefully he bounces back from that and we can have a respectable rotation again.
  3. Cards have like 70 guys in their bullpen right now. No idea how you let Gomber face Javy.
  4. I really like Ziegler, but I think our pen needs a little help getting out tough lefties, which he does not help at all. Grab Ziegler AND find a LOOGY to take Rosario's spot in the pen and I'll be fairly happy.
  5. He's back to averaging 95 on his fastball here in July, though he's pitched terribly this month so it clearly hasn't helped much yet. I'd buy that he's been a little unlucky and is still a quality 7th inning guy, but I'd like to aim a little higher for our reliever acquisition since we skimped on the rotation. I'd love Will Smith from the Giants or one of the Nationals guys.
  6. This is...kind of sad. Like with KB down the Cubs are kind of vulnerable. Add someone who can make a horsefeathering impact. Moustakas is fine, he helps, but where's the Schoop/Gausman deal, or the Dozier/Gibson deal? Or why did they let the Dbacks get Escobsr yesterday? This just feels so much like the Pirates a few years as go. They're going to "keep their powder dry" so long that they miss their shot.
  7. Nah, our FO is smarter than that. This is a "horsefeathers happens" kind of night, where whereas Chatwood is just straight up broken. Last 6 starts: Montgomery - 5.80 ERA Chatwood - 6.75 ERA I mean Monty has better era but they both have sucked Montgomery has been hit hard, but every non-elite guy has stretches like this over the course of the year. He's not walking a ton of guys and he doesn't have a HR problem, so I tend to view it as just a slump. He was fortunate when he was a 1 something ERA during his first month in the rotation, and he's been unfortunate lately. Baseball.

  9. Robinson Cano is pretty high up there.
  10. I take the guy giving up hits every single day.
  11. [tweet] [/tweet] Beautiful
  12. [tweet] [/tweet] I like Ziegler (I'm really partial to guys like him and Cishek) but I feel like given the Duensing situation a guy who can get lefties out might be necessary.
  13. [tweet] [/tweet] I don't know if that's inside info or just an example of the type of thing they could have in mind.
  14. The dodgers are significantly worse against lefties again, but not as awful as they used to be in 2016 Phillies are much worse as well. Conversely, the Braves murder lefties (which is why they gave us so much trouble)

  16. Much like BABIP regresses towards .300, L/R splits tend to regress to a player's overall mean. Almora playing versus righties is fine, especially with how banged up the roster is right now. And lineup doesn't matter unless you're doing something actively harmful, like batting the pitcher at cleanup. Tl;DR stop whining about Almora, if he's comfortable batting 1 or 2 that is probably worth more than the .1 runs/game it costs us over an "optimal" lineup.
  17. Hamels' homerun problem screams fluke IMO. If it truly is a fluke, he's a slightly above average starter who should cost very little to acquire. That's a massive upgrade over Chatwood. If his homerun problem is not a fluke, he's still a little better than Chatwood on a rate basis plus he will throw an extra inning+ per start. I would love someone more fun like Gausman or Stroman, but we're in a position where mediocrity like Hamels will absolutely help.
  18. There's a decent chance this was Chatwood's last start as a Cub. That's the only thing leaving me somewhat zen about this.

  20. Hamels is solid, and with his contract the prospect cost should be minimal. I feel pretty comfortable hand waving away spikes in dongs allowed if they're not due to velocity loss.
  21. That could actually be a sneaky awesome way of upgrading the rotation this year. An impact guy like Stroman probably costs someone off the ML roster, let's just say Happ or Almora. Our FO is reticent to do that during the year, but if you expand the deal to Donaldson and Stroman. pushing KB to the OF if/when both are healthy, you can trade one of those guys without hurting our position player depth.
  22. Stroman would be phenomenal, but I really doubt a deal comes together. He's the sort of guy teams seem too scared to deal during the season. He basically had a terrible April, but has been typical Stroman since, so no worries from me on him going forward.
  23. Happ is probably the best starter who gets moved this deadline, and that's not too backhanded of a compliment as he's a solid 3 win guy. I think for me the issue is that because he's #1 I worry about how inflated his price will be. There also may be some diminishing returns as he's quite similar to Lester and Quintana, though that's a much lesser consideration.
