  1. why It's certainly not a hill I'd die on, but broadly speaking, there are major differences. The proliferation of technology and associated changes in the flow of information are enormous, yet "Millennial" continues to be a lazy catch-all for "people not currently materially impactful on society who are younger than me" in many media and business settings. Many Millennials grew up without widespread internet, mobile phones, or intense airport security. Someone who's 35 generally has a different worldview and grew up in a different world than someone who's 15. Hell, even someone who's 28 grew up in a different era than someone who's 18. A kid who just graduated college probably has a hard time remembering a time when there wasn't a supercomputer connecting its user to everyone else in the world from the palm of her hand -- it's pretty cool. Yeah. Millenial is used basically any time an old person sees a young person they don't like. I see it similar to how you've described. In my mind a millenial is someone who is old enough that they clearly remember life before the internet, but young enough that it's been around for the majority of their lives. Basically the generation that grew up during the transition.
  2. Yeah, his velo is fine so I think this is just a slump. Since he became good his struggles have generally been when he's only throwing like 85.
  3. Is Justin Turner cutting his own hair now? My lord
  4. That is such a dumb homer and I love it
  5. [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. If Yu comes back from this injury fine, I'm not really worried about the starting pitching any more than just normal existential dread about any pitcher. Lester's been lucky, but he's also been fairly good. He's probably due for a <2 inning 8+ hit disaster start, but I'm not worried about him overall. Unless your expectations are still that he's an ace I wouldn't worry. Similar story with Monty, he's been lucky but also legitimately good. Quintana had a rough start to the year and is still climbing out of that. but has generally been good since. He has a 3.12 ERA the past two months. The walks and HRs are up, but I don't think by an alarming amount. He's probably been nibbling a bit too much because he's been a little unlucky with homeruns. Not a long term concern IMO. Kyle's been a little more concerning. He's down across the board. That being said, his velocity is fine, and in the past his struggles have generally been directly tied to reduced velocity. I'm hoping it's just a slump. but even if he's diminished now it's more a case of being more average than good rather than being a full on problem like Chatwood.
  7. Has Lange gotten to the point where we say "Happy Lange Day?" Or am I jumping the gun a bit on that?
  8. That’s one of the dumbest trade ideas of all time Seriously. My memory was that Realmuto is basically Willson with the bat but with average framing and one less year of control. That's a better player, but certainly not by enough to give up Happ. I looked it up, and it's two years less of control AND he's a similarly poor framer. So there's just no justification at all.
  9. Ugh. Who would we really feel comfortable with making a playoff start? All of them except Chatwood. Yeah. I'm a bit worried about Kyle, but I think Lester/Q are fine and I only need like 2-3 good starts from Darvish for my worries there to melt away.
  10. We had the best record in the NL before this series. There was nothing that needed to be kicked on. This series sucks and is embarrassing but the comparisons to last year's team don't really hold.
  11. On a lighter note, I rewatched the first season of Detroiters this weekend, and it led to me finding this: It's the greatest thing I've ever seen
  12. He's generally been on about the same timetable as Darvish, so next weekend probably?
  13. I mean, basically? Cishek is not a guy you want facing Votto, Edwards and Morrow on the DL, Duensing probably unavailable. He was probably saving Wilson for the 8th or 9th, but everyone else who's any good wasn't really an option.
  14. Aside from the homerun, none of these balls have been hit even 90 MPH. What a joke.
  15. Darvish and Hendricks caught it from him, too. Funny you mention Yu in that context http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/19288971/for-same-two-minutes-every-game-texas-rangers-yu-darvish-bad-pitcher
  16. Quintana reminds me of Dempster. He's got "one bad inning" disease. His good games are the ones where he keeps that inning from getting out of hand, and his bad ones are the ones where he doesn't.
  17. Not after this year. He does have the 2nd opt out after next year though, and if he stays fixed I think that's a pretty easy decision.
  18. Lange gave up a leadoff HR and then was awesome from then on. With all this talk of promotions he might be ready for AA soon.
  19. I love how heads up Javy is. I was literally saying "I wonder if Javy moved up to..." as Len was saying he was at third base.
  20. This doesn’t seem good: And Carlos Martinez has walked 18 guys and allowed 10 ER in 12.2 IP since coming off the DL. And their next 4 series are against the Brewers-Indians-Braves-Dbacks. Cards might be out of it by Independence Day.
  21. Lester gave up 12 balls hit 95+ mph. Only 5 went for hits. He only struck out 1 guy. As dumb as yesterday afternoon's game was I think today's was just as dumb but this time in our favor.
