  1. I would love if we end up with Alek Thomas here. He was one of the half dozen guys I was really eyeing at #24
  2. Oh no, Tommy Lasorda does not look well at all
  3. Lemahieu College bat who squares everything up and settles as an above average defensive 2B That's a good call. I can totally see that.
  4. So what do we think a good outcome for Hoerner looks like? Something like Jed Lowrie or Asdrubal Cabrera?
  5. I assume this will save them some money as well? I don't like the pick, but that may change my mind on things.
  6. I think Noah Naylor is still my guy, but I could get behind Kowar, Thomas or McLanahan.
  7. I don't like Turang, so I feel great about Milwaukee taking him.
  8. KC has a bunch of picks today. I wonder if they had to punt one or more of them to keep Singer. Maybe worth it even if they did.
  9. I think it depends on $$. There's a chance that the reason he hasn't gone yet is that it's a Mark Appel situation, where he has a high number and only like 3 teams can afford to make that work. But if he can be had without Ricky Williams-ing your draft, you gotta do it.
  10. I don't know that there are any pitchers I want at #24, but I feel like that is a pick I could be alright with. His scouting report basically reads like Michael Wacha's when he was coming out. I really like Connor Scott, who Keith Law tied us to in his last mock. Give me great athletes who can hit all day.
  11. Last year he mocked Nate Pearson and Drew Rasmussen (Little and Lange). No 1st rounder in 2016. He mocked Benintendi in 2015 (sigh, Ian Happ). He mocked Conforto in 2014 (Schwarber). He hit on every demographic chosen, but didn't actually get any of the picks themselves right. If he's saying the Cubs are leaning towards hitters, which he is, it seems like a good bet that they go with a bat in the 1st. I feel like with Wilken he was 100% plugged in, but in the Theo era he has been merely well informed. I don't love Seigler (I'm not a fan of HS catchers generally), but with this FO I'm probably never going to disagree too vehemently.
  12. It's hard to get a feel for who would be willing to cross that line. Yankees are obviously a good guess, they played the Chapman situation as sleazily as possible (aside, i do wonder if part of the reason Theo paid so far through the nose for him was to avoid those kinds of optics). I feel like the Padres are a good guess, as Preller rarely seems to give any horsefeathers. The Rays maybe? Hard to alienate your fans if you don't have any.
  13. I just looked through on Gameday, and Clayton Kershaw only touched 90 MPH once during his start tonight. And that pitch was exactly 90.0. He'll get some velo back as he gets further away from his DL stint, but he's probably more All-Star than Cy Young going forward.
  14. With all the injuries this team is SO bad right now. We ought to lose the DeGrom game but these other three are as winnable as any Marlins or Padres game.
  15. I know he's going well already but I get the feeling Schwarber's about to go into a monster hot streak. Like he's dancing around it right now.
  16. Yikes. Have to imagine that's probably it for him as a starter in 2018.
  17. Me, noticing that the Mets have a 70 (!!!) wRC+ against lefties and we're starting 3 of them
  18. I really like Almora. I feel like the switch flipped against RHP in August of last year, and through ~3 months of play he hasn't really gone backwards yet, so it's looking more and more likely those gains are real. The BABIP will come down but even still something like .290/.340/.450 with legit defense is looking more and more reasonable as an expectation. It does need to be pointed out that Statcast HATES his offense. But those metrics haven't shown to be any more reliable/predictive than the stuff we've had for a while now, so it's not a death sentence.
  19. [tweet] [/tweet] There's probably a hot carl joke to be made here but mostly I'm just sad
  20. My gut says that play was dirty. That being said, I think JD is right. That's a double play, and so Rizzo's slide should be treated the same way as a slide into 2b on a double play. In that sense, it's on Elias for being oblivious.
  21. How long do you think they let him go if he stays perfect? Like he's clearly not finishing this game, but if he sticks to ~10 pitches an inning do they let him go 7?
