  1. I think replay should go the other way in these situations. You can clearly infer that his hand got in. HOWEVER given that's not how we choose to operate I would have been real pissed if they overturned that.
  2. I knew Moises was off to a good start but hadn't realized how much of a tear he's on until I just looked. What a stud
  3. Maybe as notable had his first walk tonight as well
  4. He's not far off. I feel like I want to see him go on a power binge, go through a slump, and come out of it. At that point it's basically whenever the roster allows
  5. The anger over Ian Happ batting 3rd is like the weirdest thing from this fanbase over the last 15 months and considering the competition that is saying something
  6. Have we gotten velo reports on him yet this year? IIRC his scouting report coming out of the draft was that the fastball was a bit light but he does everything else you want. And as we all know the Cubs have been able to coax some velo out of guys.
  7. This would, pending appeal, force both to miss this weekend's series in Chicago
  8. Nick Madrigal sucks but he's better than David Bote. He's also better than Jake Slaughter and lightyears better than Chase Strumpf before anybody goes there. Like TT I would swap Madrigal for Mastro probably? I do also think Nick tends to do better when he has been given consistent play time, so having him stashed at Iowa and coming back up when injuries demand it is probably the best move.
  9. Not pitching for Iowa until the weekend
  10. If the team was closer to full strength I would have liked to get PCA in there. As a lowball hitter Manaea is the type of lefty you'd like to ease him in against I think.
  11. I would guess in season that if any SP goes out that another SP comes in. For example if the Padres continue to slide trading for the remaining 1.5 seasons of Dylan Cease. We saw how quickly depth can erode and you are forced to throw your #8 starter out there. Especially with Horton and Brown having pretty low inning caps this season, no way Jed goes net negative on SPs until at least the winter.
  12. With the benefit of hindsight I think it's pretty clear it was intentional. The team tasked him with making XYZ mechanical changes over the winter and ST, and at Iowa told him to focus on hitting those in a live setting over hitting his normal velo/spin benchmarks. He gets back to MLB, they tell him to let it rip while attempting to keep those XYZ changes and now knock on wood he's fixed. I think the big test will be how does he hold up in leverage spots. Because the AZ game is the only one he's pitched in thus far with major stakes. But he seems back to being the guy we loved in the latter part of '22.
  13. I'll say I feel good about where things are at in-season. I think the flow of gamethreads getting pinned to then hanging out in discussion for a day or two postgame to getting archived works and is legitimate improvement from the old way of working. I also feel like the tenor of the conversation and community is generally good. People get overly dramatic when things get tough, but that's anywhere. I mean if you want to see a place that's gone totally off the rails in that regard check out the change in tenor over the last 18 months at Bleacher Nation. I do think we need to figure out the best "flow" for next offseason. I think many/most of us old timers would vote to resurrect the Transactions forum. But the megathread this past winter was a slog and at the same time we shouldn't start a new thread every time like JP Morosi tweets conflicting info about Cody Bellinger. Maybe separate running threads for some of the hotly rumored/logical Cubs targets and then a megathread for assorted league goings on?
  14. Especially having been proven right about how ready to roll Assad/Brown/Wicks were, signing someone from the Severino tier of FA starters would have been a bad idea. Good on Severino for seemingly getting back on track, now he can be one of the top deadline rentals in July and make some real money next winter. But I don't think it's worth kicking ourselves over.
  15. Yeah I think the two big things you'll see different between them: - Outfield assists aside, Schwarber was a horrible defender basically from the jump and is now catastrophically bad. Caissie will probably be vaguely average initially and then slide from there - Despite probably ending up with similar K numbers, I think Caissie likely hits for a good bit higher average. Some of that is his approach and being less launch angle-y and less pull happy like 1908 pointed out. Some of it is not at all to his credit and due to the shift ban. But I think you see 20-30 extra points of average with Caissie, though he will cede some dongs in the process
  16. My laptop when I open BaseballSavant to check the data Cade's first AAA start
  17. I saw they were going to get it done in New York. So my guess is logistics of doing it on the road were just easier there. And once you've committed to IL'ing him there's not a ton of urgency. Also looks like I missed a Merryweather update on the broadcast last night If he hasn't even started throwing yet feels like a May return is already off the table (though being on the 60 day IL may have forced that regardless).
  18. Patrick Wisdom should feast tonight A win would be really big. Between Shota being awesome and Houser being terrible winning at least one of games 3/4 feels like a safe bet. So win tonight and the prospects of a winning series + road trip look great.
  19. It's probably just a hot streak? I see two things notably different from last year: 1. He's swinging In-Zone a lot more. Tauchman is often beyond patient to the point of passive so this is big 2. His launch angle is way up but his groundball rate is flat. So he's trading some low line drives for outfield liners and also unfortunately some pop-ups Neither of these feel like fundamental changes? I would guess they are more just the things that he's doing when he's going well.
  20. Brewers fans are going to howl over this. I'm torn, on the one hand in real time it didn't seem to matter. On the other in the replay it clearly hit him and did move his head a bit so you probably should call the play dead.
  21. Beyond the actual win, burning Edwin Diaz like that is also big for the rest of the series. He worked Sunday too, so he is probably only usable one more time in the series to avoid a 4/5 stretch?
  22. And then circling back to Hendricks, if you want some reason for optimism that an IL stint has a chance to help things, looks like his release point was off in the early going this season (Also the entire thread from Bryan should probably be required reading)
