  1. I'm sure Hendry doesn't want to take a chance on the team until Blanco/Castro proves they can hit consistently at the ML level. If Marmol gets back in the groove, you would be creating quite a hole on the ML roster to protect Vitters. Theriot or Marmol in a smaller package (one other player) might be okay for Granderson, but some of the posts were suggesting a 4-player package with Theriot and/or Marmol. Theriot and Marmol simply aren't comparable entities. It's not an interchangeable thing. If adding in Theriot to any package is what got us Granderson, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. yo did you read my post
  2. Don't get me wrong; I don't want to lose Marmol or treat him like a throw-in in a trade. Unfortunately, it almost seems like some want to treat Vitters in just that way because of a little drop in his stock this year. Marmol is a guy who is prime for trading right now - his perceived value is higher than his actual value to the Cubs (because of the risk he brings). There is no Marmol/Theriot for me. There's Marmol, and there's Theriot. When it comes to Granderson, offering Marmol, JJax and Burke is too much, whereas Theriot, Jackson and Burke is kind of a steal. I'm ok with Blanco patrolling short if we can sign a stopgap 2B and have Granderson and his production 3 out of 4 days in CF and Fuku in his element in RF. I'd call that a productive offseason and watch Theriot get overpaid on another team in a year or so with 20-y-o Castro coming to take his place at league minimum.
  3. I dont think that would be enough, they would definitely want at least another prospect or another two mid level prospects. Flaherty to me isn't worth a great deal. I was going off of the Jim Callis quote above. Yeah, and I don't agree with Callis, either.
  4. Nobody wants Ryan Theriot on their team; they just say they do. And FTR, I'd substitute Marmol for Vitters in a deal 9 times out of 10.
  5. That's a nice package for both sides. Jackson seems like the type of guy the Tigers would really like...I don't see them downgrading on the pitching part of the deal.
  6. Wow is that a Rich Harden line or what. Not saying he's gonna be Harden, but Rich puts that up about every other outing in a healthy season.
  7. Really shows an extensive knowledge of our minor league system when all he points to is a "failure to re-sign" Mark Derosa
  8. Doug Melvin is really bad at his job, but I refuse to believe he said no to Ryan Doumit in favor of Toolsy McNobat. I also don't believe the pirates would offer such value for a guy who is expendable to his current organization
  9. Nobody has a problem with Adrian Gonzalez getting a GG? My God, he's only slightly better than Fielder out there.
  10. When you're a little older, hopefully you'll learn just how wrong everything you've said in this thread is. At the very least, you'll learn to keep those thoughts to yourself
  11. Why wouldn't they wait till he was non-tendered?
  12. I don't see how that could be a bad thing. Hendry's already telegraphed that he wants Bradley gone at any cost. I don't also want him jumping at the first offer he gets.
  13. Hey, shut up people from Chicago. I want to hear what the high schooler from the whitest state in the union thinks about racism.
  14. well that's sort of obnoxious
  15. They wouldn't move Theriot. They didn't do it for Cedeno and they won't do it for the new guy, either. It would hurt his feelings, or something. It makes a ton of sense, though.
  16. I don't like Erik's plan to make our team older. That's all
  17. You're right. I'm just having a crap day and figured I would take it out on the Cubs. We're cool
  18. Weren't people really high on Cardenas not too long ago?
  19. Maybe this hire would convince them to keep Milton? :pig:
  20. Bruce Miles agrees: Ugh. Given his "over-aggressiveness" stance on hitting, I see this being a return to the hack and slash offense of 05-06. Why doesn't this organization recognize that they had a leading offense in 07 because of OBP? Uhh I think they know that very well, and aren't as convinced as you that Jaramillo's teachings will fly in the face of that philosophy
  21. Perhaps these types of moves don't happen because other teams won't give up enough to make them worthwhile. I'd love to see the Cubs sell high on Theriot but I doubt many teams are beating down Hendry's door. On the other hand, he'd make a great return player to balance out a trade to a small market team that has a SS they won't be able to afford much longer. By himself he wouldn't bring much though. You're probably right, but Marmol would fetch a lot considering how easy he may be to replace within our organization. My point was more (my supposition) that the Cubs wouldn't even be fielding offers/testing the waters with these guys, just because it's non-traditional/disloyal/hurt feelings/whatever else
  22. Trading Marmol or Theriot would be one of those awesome, smart things that this organization would never do.
  23. Can't read this at work. Did the relationship turn sour or something?
  24. I was! I was! It was my first night game and the atmosphere was just unbelievable. I had a seat in the UD to the left of the booth could clearly see Mongo sing, call out the home plate ump, get thrown out, and then get escorted out of the park. And the ending was of course awesome.
