  1. This game is awesome and really makes me appreciate winning the division.
  2. I wonder what it is about Tommy Pham that would rub them the wrong way. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe Dexter would know the answer.
  3. Yeah, now that they turned it around and finished with a successful season (ie, 90+ wins, division title), I'm good going into Friday. I know I probably put too much emphasis on playoff baseball being a crapshoot, but now that I know that the Super Cubs are alive and well, and without the soul crushing desire to see a World Series, I'm feeling pretty relaxed. This will all change in about 35 hours, so enjoying it now.
  4. 91-69. Two more wins would be very nice.
  5. Jesus....I'm on a pretty fast connection and was refreshing right up until 12:00...got in as quick as I could and tried to get 4 tickets for game 3, best available. Apparently the best available, seconds after it opening, were standing room. Went back, requested 4 for game 4...section 508. Clearly there aren't many tickets out there.
  6. Fair...I was blanking on who our leadoff guy has been lately. If I'm going to grant him that, then I'd love to see Happ at second with Zobrist on the bench, but that's probably more wishful thinking.
  7. I've been pushing for Quintana to be the game one starter, but I think Hendricks might have earned it last night. Assuming they go with Scherzer game one, here's what I'd like to see: 1. Zobrist (2B) 2. Bryant 3. Rizzo 4. Schwarber (LF) 5. Avila © 6. Happ (CF) 7. Heyward (RF) 8. Russell Could see the arguments for putting Bryant in right to get LaStella's bat in the lineup, but I think it weakens the defense just a little too much. Given Strasburg's more neutral splits, Contreras (and Baez) should start the rest of the games.
  8. Look I don't want us wasting any extra effort these next three days, but I'd feel remiss if I didn't point out that we have 69 losses right now.
  9. Think of it as a test run for next week. See what sticks, what doesn't work, narrow it down to the top shows for when the games really matter.
  10. Regardless of this outcome, zobrist showing this power in back to back nights is somewhat encouraging.
  11. There's really no evidence to back this up. Hendricks incredible 2016? Yeah, Quintana had a higher WAR. This year in total? Quintana. The last 30 days? Quintana. What are you basing it on? You're giving Quintana a boost for 5.1 WAR vs. 5.0 in 2016, but then going to last 30 days to dismiss 3.2 WAR to 2.5 in Hendricks favor this year? Main difference in 2016 was 18 innings more than Quintana pitched. Hendricks peripherals better across the board. Might be misreading you, but Quintana definitely has more WAR this year. Mostly due to more innings, but basic peripherals are in his favor too (9.9 vs 7.6 K/9, HR rate even, Hendricks slight advantage in walk rate). Quintana has been better this year, last year, last month, whatever. Hendricks is a Cubs legend for the rest of his life, and a very good pitcher this year, but we traded for a hell of a pitcher.
  12. I get the playoff experience. But 2017 and the last 30 days have not been a toss up by any means. Quintana has been the much better pitcher. In terms of lefty/righty, whatever. Lester and Jake are interchangeable at this point. But in a game 5, give me Quintana.
  13. What's the argument for Hendricks over Quintana? Being a better pitcher There's really no evidence to back this up. Hendricks incredible 2016? Yeah, Quintana had a higher WAR. This year in total? Quintana. The last 30 days? Quintana. What are you basing it on?
  14. He's clearly our best starter right now. I dont really mind if Lester gets game 1. Even I kind of expect him to come up big in the big game even though he's been struggling, and he was improved last night. But then game 2 has to go to Hendricks. Lester/Hendricks/Q/Jake/Lester is what I expect. Hendricks/Q/Lester/Jake/Hendricks is what I would probably go with Lester/Jake/Q/Hendricks/Lester is what Dusty would do, and if Joe does it Ill jump on the fire Joe bandwagon What's the argument for Hendricks over Quintana?
  15. Honestly, at this point nonzero chance Montgomery starts a playoff game.
  16. So are we just not doing either? Dex almost killed Willson and then tripled...might have cost him his invite to the after party later tonight.
  17. I mean, if there was ever a time to break with tradition, it's when we've already clinched on someone who's spent the whole year bemoaning how terrible we are. Don't waste any of the big guns, but let's get one up to start the celebration.
  18. Thought this was interesting. In the game thread last night a couple people noticed that as of today, Bryant leads the NL in WAR. Based on the Cubs having a 'down' year until the last few weeks, and his low RBI total/bad clutch numbers, he hasn't gotten a ton of MVP talk, which...whatever. I usually like looking at WPA (win probability added) when looking at the MVP race, as it takes into account big hits and how much impact towards results the player actually had. Amazingly, Trout is leading all of baseball. Bryant comes in at 19th in the National League, thanks largely to him being by far the least clutch player thus far in the NL (no idea how the stat works, but his number is -2.92, the next worst person, Stanton, is -1.85). Top NL WPA producer? Our other cornerstone, Anthony Rizzo.
  19. I'm reading it as you having Martin over LaStella in what you posted. Right, that's my guess, his post is saying Wilson, Rondon, La Stella, Rivera, AND Martin/Lackey if I'm reading it right. Good call. I'm dropping Rivera for Lackey/Grimm/Koji, agree with the rest.
  20. Rondon, Wilson, La Stella, and Rivera make 25 unless you're not including someone from my locks. I'm reading it as you having Martin over LaStella in what you posted.
