  1. No, man. We must suck. Should have sold. Insert a comment about another pitcher we also didn’t hit for a few innings in a game we ended up winning. Obviously teams must score runs off of previously bad pitchers every time, all the time.
  2. Yeah I probably phrased that wrong. The upcoming schedule on Fangraphs has Assad but they're probably guessing like the rest of us. More generally the point was that someone is going to have to start that game, we've got 3-4 guys capable of going 50+ pitches, just need to keep one (or two) back.
  3. I haven't seen any announcement but just noticed that Assad is the current scheduled starter for Saturday. Going on three days rest after last night is probably fine, but likely they're penciling in Rea or Civale for bulk duty that day too.
  4. Seven times* Six of those games* Just for everyone else's benfit
  5. This seems like even more of a bullpen game for the Sox unless I'm missing something. Newcomb can go multiple innings, faced 8 guys on Sunday, and is pretty good, but hasn't gone more than three innings all year. Brazoban has pitched two of the last three days, Richards the last two, Fedde is going to be down. Anthony Kay is next in line in their current four man rotation but he pitched Saturday so that would be short rest. Guessing it's Newcome for 2-3, Hicks for a couple, Hagen Smith for one or two, figure it out from there. Cubs, as shown above, are in ok shape, ideally hoping for a lopsided game so that Rea or Civale can let the short relief guys get a night off.
  6. We're just accepting the premise that he 'looked gassed'? Two Ks in the 5th, another K in the 6th with two weak fly outs? Munetaka hit the ball hard in the 5th but is that just going be an automatic trigger anytime past the 4th inning? We need to get 27 outs.
  7. Sounds like Bryan Hudson to open for the White Sox, who is good but hasn't gone more than an inning in a month. Then Erick Fedde. Who is absolutely terrible. Hicks and Hagen Smith are probably down for tonight. The rest of the pen is in better shape than last night, but still need to remember that their top guy is going to open so they'll be a guy short on the back end.
  8. Since May 1: t-1st in HR t-1st in runs t-3rd in RBIs 2nd in SBs 4th in OBP 1st in SLG 1st in wOBA 1st in wRC 3rd in BsR 1st in FG Off (43.2, next closest is 30.4) 1st in FG Def 1st in offensive fWAR (7.5, next closest is 4.3)
  9. This debate usually comes up in the middle innings and it seems like the pieces that are missed are A. Middle relievers are generally not good at pitching, and B. It’s really hard to get 4+ innings out of your bullpen every night. Shota was really good tonight, and in his last inning he had a walk, a K, and two weak fly balls. I don’t know if it would have been wise to start the sequence of trusted relievers an inning earlier and be left with…Aaron Civale or whatever in the tenth.
  10. PCAs fWAR lead had dropped toa measly 2.0 going into tonight. Back up to 2.4.
  11. Huge hat tip to Nico. Webb got a little marmol-y there but huge by him too. PCA with comfortably the greatest cubs season of my adult life. Insane.
  12. I didn’t know who Owen miller was until three hours ago but would he have been a better choice for the bottom half if he came in for Kelly and let Amaya stay in?
  13. It worked the first time but he’s going to have to throw strikes here
  14. For this line out double play will they double off Taylor or Happ
