    Yeah, I know all playoff series are largely crapshoots, but if we're going to walk away with the #1 seed like I expect us too, I'd much rather see some combination of St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and Miami in the wild card game than NYM and LAD.

    This cash needs to go to Panarin and shoring up the defense. Shaw's given us plenty of great moments, but they've come with a lot of frustrating ones, and he's going to get paid too much for what he does. It's amazing that we probably get a better package back for this trade than the Sharp trade, especially considering we had to include our top D prospect in that one. All speculation what went on behind the scenes on that one, but it hurts that we ended up with nothing there.

    Do you think when Fowler was negotiating with the lame ass Baltimore Orioles on a crappy February day he could have ever imagined being the #3 overall vote getter in the entire league while leading off for the most dominant baseball team in years?

    I know it's by design but I miss K everyone Jake and don't like pitch to contact Jake. Pitching to contact is boring. His K rate is actually up for the current year, but I know what you mean. I'm fine with it today. The worst team in baseball on a 90+ degree day....do enough to get the job done and get out of there.

    I don't know a ton about the system, and I'm guessing this is more of a project that you'd like to figure out, but I'd assume a Google shared workbook with password access would get you pretty close, no? I'd guess they'd have something that lets you track who makes changes, to keep people in their own rankings. Obviously it'd be a lot cooler if it were integrated here, but I like the general idea so much I just would love to see it implemented somehow.

    Coghlan was the 55th more valuable offensive player in baseball last year. Giving up someone who's put together below league average performance in AAA over his last 160 games doesn't seem like that much. All depends on what you want to look at. Coghlan's peripherals have definitely gone down, but batted ball profile seems pretty consistent to last year.

    I was excited when I heard this, and then I found out Coghlan has been ummmm....a bit less than impressive this year in Oakland. Hopefully he can help out. I'm sure Maddon loves the flexibility.

    I'm curious on how many opportunities he gets. His main value in terms of winning games would be as a late game defensive replacement, but with Bryant/Fowler/Heyward being the default line up, there really isn't anywhere to upgrade, unless you want to push Baez to second and Bryant back to third (and even that would lead to one of the outfielders playing 'out of position'). If you give him starts, is it in left? I'm guessing he'll get one, maybe two games over Fowler over the next couple weeks, but I doubt we'll see enough to make any reasonable conclusions.

    After all those years of suck, they just wanted to see what it was like on the other side of the fake rally for once. Let the 15% full crowd start to get excited for a few minutes before sending them home more pissed than they were 10 minutes earlier. It's fine, the Cubs are just bored. 40 wins on June 6th hahahahaha

    It seems like we never really put out our 'top' lineup. In one way, it makes me happy because it means we have another gear to bust out. In another, it makes me sad because I know the real 'top' lineup is missing my favorite dongsmith.

    We are a third of the way through the year and pythag has us at a 128 win pace this team is outrageous and I never want this to end.

    I realize after last night and this I'm putting myself close to a definitely unenviable position on the Clayton Richard Bandwagon, but... He's the last pitcher in our bullpen, with a 3.34 FIP in his small sample size of nine innings. 17% LD/16% hard hit % rate against a .432 BAPIP and a 45% strand rate. He's not visually appealing because he doesn't strike anyone out, but he gets groundballs (67% this year, 59% last year in 42 innings), and lefties wOBAed .240 against him last year. Maybe let him hit double digits in innings for the year before we start screwing with our 40 man to bring up Gerardo Concepcion and his unsustainably low BAPIP.

    By most/many/seemingly all accounts Contreras is not ready defensively. Trading for catching depth makes sense for both the short and long term seeing as there's no Cs under contract after 2017 on the ML roster right now. I don't care how dumb it sounds, I'm holding on to the 'Schwarber is someone's personal catcher when he gets back to full health'. Between that, Contreras, and one of Lester's other hunting buddies, hopefully we'll be covered.

    Funny observation but one was on a holiday afternoon with perfect weather and today was a wet weeknight evening. Fair enough. Still, we gave up 2 runs from Jake and the back of our bullpen. We'd take that, especially against the dodgers, pretty much every day.

    15 pages for 7.5 innings of a 2-0 game we're losing tonight. 10 total pages for a 2-0 game we won yesterday.
