Rich hill is a really good pitcher. Clayton kershaw is the best pitcher. This is going to happen. Lester, after a shitty year and on short rest, has given up as many runs so far.

Obviously worst case scenario, but what’s the plan if Lester implodes in the first couple innings here? Lackey and Montgomery over 25 pitches yesterday...does Lester just wear it?

Watching rich hill pitch against the Cubs is probably the closest thing we have to how other fans feel watching Hendricks.

I'm still totally on board the "Let the Surly Ol' Mule start Game 1" train, though I'm weirdly torn on whether I'd want Lester or Quintana starting tomorrow. Weren't both better on the road than at Wrigley this season? Probably just a lot of noise (especially in Quintana's case), but I thought someone pointed out here how Lester had some surprising home/road splits in 2017. I could, however, just be totally making this up. I was ready to agree with you on Lester because I remembered the two starts where he didn't make it out of the second (one of them he didn't make it out of the first) were at home, but even with those starts he still has slightly better numbers at home this year. 4.27 vs 4.41 ERA, FIP about the same.

Rondon is most likely coming back regardless. Last year we added an extra pitcher and dropped an offensive player going from the NLDS to the NLCS. I'd guess we saw Martin's last game in a Cubs uniform.

To be clear, it was a bad decision to let Hendricks bat. It was a worse decision to let him pitch to Harper. It was border inexcusable to let him pitch to Zimmerman with no one warm in the pen.

We have seven pitchers on 2+ days rest. In an elimination game, our starter who has given up 6 hits and 4 runs in 3 innings does not need to bat three times.

I'll be in Carmel, Indiana, which combines all the worst parts of suburban bars (really dumb middle aged sports 'fans' pretending to care about the game) with all the worst parts of Indiana (the 22 year old in the Cubs hat last night who was doing everything he could to not drop a hard N on Edwards last night, screamed the series was over after the Grand Slam, and then left without leaving any tip). Should be great.

I'm seeing .359 in his career (and .410 this year), but he's working good at bats and LaStella hasn't seen any lefties all year. I'm fine with it. .359 is against lefties in general; the .378 is against LH starters over his career. Interesting, didn't know you could pull that data, I stand corrected. Pretty much got what we want, besides Happ (Heyward against a lefty?!?!)

Even if you go by Jay's career numbers, he's still got a .378 OBP against LH starters. I just want someone on base. I'm seeing .359 in his career (and .410 this year), but he's working good at bats and LaStella hasn't seen any lefties all year. I'm fine with it.

Eh, I think that's playing way over his head...100 PAs with a .391 BAPIP and a 16% hard hit. But just realizing LaStella only has like 14 PAs against lefties this year, even though he's 100+ points better in OPS vs lefties in his career. Fine, whatever, Jay to right, Happ to second.

Uhhhhhhhhh...not a big Gio Gonzalez fan? Hendricks is a better pitcher than Gonzalez. But they're both on enough rest. I'll take 5 innings from Hendricks over 5 innings from Gonzalez. Scherzer on short rest vs Quintana and the rest of the game is more interesting.
