  1. Dioner. Which, congrats to Ding Dong and soccer, because I had no clue he even played for the Cubs. Those were dark years.
  2. For those of you who don't follow @ckamka (because this is amazing)....the last Cub with a three home run game was who?
  3. All the starters under 3.00 ERA is cool or whatever, but man...just give me games like this where the offensve is non-stop.
  4. Yep, was just thinking that. Seems like he always follows up an 0-fer with a dong. I both get what you're saying and also can't resist pointing out that what you're describing is the opposite of consistent.
  5. Not the first person to make this comparison, but while I enjoyed the Rich Harden era, I like God-mode Jake a lot more.
  6. Sign me up for one year of Campbell on a hometown discount. With so much uncertainty around future salary cap levels, would like to have as much money freed up next year (when Panarin is due a long term contract) as possible. This has been a pretty depressing offseason, but the Shaw trade was the right move. Shore up the defense and hope a couple of the forward prospects can step up on the bottom six.
  7. I feel like I haven't seen Strop or Rondon in forever. Strop 2 innings in the last week, Rondon 1.1. Hopefully that's by design, but agreed that these guys get very tiring.
  8. Yeah, offense is so terrible w/ him hitting 2nd all year. This is what I hate. Offense has been largely awesome in spite of him. Now there's injuries so his mediocrity is magnified. Not saying he's awful, just counting on our RF being a run producer eventually ffs. I know I'm taking both sides of this argument, but I agree that our offense has been amazing in spite of Heyward, not because of him. His overall contributions and 'true' offensive talent ensure that he needs to be in the lineup, but you can definitely make the argument that with everyone else producing the way that they have (and are capable of), Heyward should not be getting the second most PAs on the team. I want so many spite dongs in Cincinnati. After this week, I'm going to revel in Brennaman's despair.
  9. I for one am pretty excited to go kick the horsefeathers out of Cincinnati for a few days.
  10. As someone who has to follow the game through here more than I'd like, I've gotten pretty good at figuring out what happened through just emotional outbursts. This one has me stumped. triple f bomb because Fernandez threw one to the backstop that bounced right back to the catcher so Hammel couldn't score Got it...appreciate the detail. That's the kind of stuff that doesn't show up on the ESPN Gamecast.

  12. Fair. .733 OPS is June isn't too far off his career numbers, and that's with a .277 BAPIP against his career .307. I know BAPIP isn't perfect, but his line drive rate remains strong.
  13. "Making sold contact outs" qualifies as a 'good day' for pretty much anyone on the roster. People around here are generally smart enough to know that if someone is hitting the ball consistently hard, it's going to translate into offensive production at some point in the near future. Right now for Heyward the production isn't there, but the contact is giving us a sign that it should be coming soon.
  14. I never once in the last couple years expected to be this excited about him.
  15. Whatever. Almora or Coghlan is going to walk off and hit Matheny in the face with his bat flip.
  16. Seeing that I can't find video yet, can someone describe just how high the pitch was? Trying to decide how angry to make my text to my Cardinal fan brother who is at the game.
  17. I doubt it would happen for a few different reasons, but Chris Sale's 2 option years in 2018 and 2019 would make for a pretty good Arrieta replacement if the White Sox ever figured out they need to blow the team up and that Sale probably has no interest in signing there long term.
  18. Yeah I'm sure they've made it a priority and they've been very good at keeping their starters healthy the last few years (I can't think of anyone either). But especially given the way they've all been pitching this year, there's a steep drop-off between those five and anyone else currently in the organization. Granted, I could take over the 5th spot for Hammel or Lackey the rest of the year and we'd still win the division, but there's a decent chance in a couple of years it's going to be, for the players currently in our system, 34 year Jon Lester, Hendricks, and then whoever has made it up from the lower levels of the minors. They have the pieces to acquire a front line starter that's could be in the rotation for 4-6 years, but they don't have the need to make that trade yet. If and when the need arises, I'm hoping those pieces are still around, and not playing in New York so I had to hate myself for cheering for Chapman for 4 months.
  19. I do remember them mentioning that....can't remember if they were talking specifically about pitching, or just in general. For what it's worth, according to the link below we've been around the middle of the pack in terms of DL days (probably inflated a bunch by Schwarbs), so it hasn't really been something they've been able to 'achieve' thus far, at least in terms of the overall roster. http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/disabled-list/ If Warren was pitching as advertised, that'd give us a little cushion. But right now depth starting pitching looks pretty ugly. Not saying we should trade Torres for a 6th starter, but if we lose one of the big guys for the year or a couple of Lackey/Hammel/Hendricks for 4-6 weeks, it'd be a bit of a concern.
  20. As much as I would love to see Miller in a Cubs uniform, I don't know if it's worth even giving up Torres or Happ for him. Yes, those guys are theoretically blocked in our organization for a little while (and they aren't close to the majors), but those are bullets that could be spent on something else when a bigger need arises. And by that I'm focusing mainly on the rotation. You never want to plan on or assume injuries, but you also shouldn't plan on the health we've gotten out of our starters over the last year and a half, especially given the ages of some of them. With Warren looking shaky and our other swing relievers not doing a whole lot, our starting pitching gets pretty thin. Yeah, Torres might be a few years away, but if Torres can be a piece that gets us a top starter to replace an injured Arrieta/Lester/Lackey, or if Arrieta walks, I think we're better served making sure we can do that. Plus, at the end of the day, I trust the front office to find a way to shore up the bullpen in a much cheaper way. They did it last year with Cahill and Rodney, and you can tell they're already trying with Matusz and Crow. They'll figure something out.
  21. We've outscored our opponents by 171 runs this year (double any other team). We've given up 193 runs this year. Let's line those numbers up in this series, eh?
  22. Yeah, I know all playoff series are largely crapshoots, but if we're going to walk away with the #1 seed like I expect us too, I'd much rather see some combination of St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and Miami in the wild card game than NYM and LAD.
  23. Zimmerman in a key spot following a walk against the Cubs for the 47th time this year
