  1. This K Zone makes watching the game so much worse. Umpires are always going to be influenced by how the catcher receives the ball. Not ideal, but it's how we've been conditioned to watch the ball. Just get rid of it.
  2. Fowler, Bryant, Castro, and Coghlan all made very good contact. If Jake settles in we'll get those back.
  3. They seem to be in fight off mode, which is smart. And when they're putting it in play, they're making solid contact. Thor throws gas, but we're fine with that. Long game ahead.
  4. and yet weird things continue to happen to the cubs Wait...this is a bit right?
  5. Eh, with the day off tomorrow and Lester ready for Game 5 if needed, no reason not to. Plus this means everyone will be available if we need to play Wednesday.
  6. It's the top of the order, and we still have Richard if there's a sequence of LH to face later. I like going to Wood. I would have pulled Grimm at the first baserunner, but I would have given it a shot to see if he could ride the momentum to go 1-2-3 so we could use a pinch hitter in the bottom of the inning instead of Wood.
  7. I would have seen if Grimm could have gotten another 3 easy outs, but I'll defer to the dude with 100 wins this year.
  8. Yesssss I love that the Cubs finally broke Fred's stats systems.
  9. I'm praying the Internet comes through with the scene from the dark knight where the joker asks that cop how many friends of his he had killed. But with dongs. Edit: this part: http://cupofzup.com/six/joker86/
  10. He's got a great walk bat flip, but yeah, that one deserved about 5 seconds of airtime.
  11. Alright, thanks mostly to refreshing this thread, I made it through today. Much appreciated. Looking forward to reading back through it tomorrow and reliving the upcoming Dong Show. We got this. Two days away from showing StL their reign is over.
  12. Grantland is projecting LaStella at third, Bryant in left, and Schwarber in right. What does everyone think about that? I'm worried about Schwarber in right, but I don't know where else you put him (PNC Left Field is huge), and the downgrade to Jackson's bat is too steep. They also have Arrieta batting 8th. Will be interesting to see which way Maddon goes with that, and it will probably show his pitching strategy for the middle of the game on. Batting 8th, and I think he'll be more willing to pull him for a pinch hitter and play the matchups. Batting 9th? It's Jakes game.
  13. I know I was against this start even happening, but god this is fun.
  14. I just think you do whatever the bare minimum is to 'keep him on his routine'. For me, ideally it'd just be a simulated game on the side, or no more than 50 pitches or so. With his stats, I doubt he'd want to be going out there with a simplified game plan or anything. I guess I just don't know how much is required to not screw up his schedule. It wouldn't seem like much. If there's a huge rain delay after the first inning and a team has to pull their starter, no one talks about them getting off their routine.
  15. For me the biggest part is that the best case scenario the rest of the year for us is that St. Louis and Pittsburgh play Game 163. Throwing the best pitcher in the National League against Pittsburgh doesn't help that cause.
  16. NO. There's no point. He's in a groove right now, making him rest for 10 days is silly. And if you suggest moving him to tomorrow then he isn't lined up to start the Wild Card game. Start him but limit to 100 pitches this start and next - high leverage or not. I mean, there's some point. I never want to straight up throw a game, but it's in our best interest that A. The Pirates don't find someway to figure out jake (which I know is a stupid phrase, but I think you get the general idea) and B. The Pirates push the cardinals and make whoever we play next Wednesday have high stress games all the way down the stretch (and making pitching choices to reflect that). Let him take his full routine, and pull him after three.
  17. Regarding arrieta...just skip him. He can throw whatever simulated game he wants, but between his innings count, not letting Pittsburgh see him, and wanting Pittsburgh to win a lot of games down the stretch, I just don't see the benefits in letting him pitch. Don't throw him off his routine, or off the schedule for him to go on 10/7. If you're worried about the bullpen, let him start and pull him after 3 or something. But at this point, we're flying somewhere for that one game playoff no matter what happens. Let's do what it takes to give ourself the best chance of winning that game.
  18. I think optimal scenario if Cubs can't catch Pirates is Cardinals and Pirates play a tie breaking game so they have to burn either Cole or whoever St Louis starts Yeah, if we win today, maybe keep going with jake tomorrow. If we lose...id consider skipping him for a few reasons. Give him a rest, don't let Pittsburgh see him, and because at that point it might be best to optimize their chances of catching the cardinals.
  19. This has probably already been discussed somewhere else, and I know it's a weird subject. But given that at this point, best case scenario is trying to make up 3 games over the last 7 for home field...couldn't Pittsburgh making a run at St. Louis probably be the best overall outcome for the rest of the season? Obviously home field would be nice, but Pittsburgh and St. Louis going balls out to win the division that last weekend (with Cole, wacha, liriano, etc) has to be about as much as we can hope for right?
  20. I know it's by far the most effective approach to the situation, I just hate seeing those two back to back in the lineup.
  21. Yeah their coverage of this has come off as a bit extreme to me. All the developments from the last few days have been pretty bizarre and depressing and whatever else you want to call them, but I'm not sure how any of them should alter how Kane (and/or the Blackhawks) should be viewed.
  22. Worst possible pitch to go on. Bad luck.
