  1. Fortunately this seems to be a different age when it comes to forgetting about these things like Kobe and Roethlisberger benefited from. I would hope we've improved as a society. Then again (and yes, different cases that have gone in different ways)....when's the last time people have brought up Castro's sexual assault issue?
  2. instead of just knowing that a certain anonymous percentage of players on our favorite team are awful human beings i am so conflicted about sports these days The sad thing is, I'm sure fans will eventually get over it and go back to cheering for him. It might take a few years and/or another Cup run but a large percentage of people are all about redemption stories. I really, really hope it doesn't get to 'redemption story' status, especially if this ends in a settlement where nothing is revealed. Sure, as time goes on, people will be more willing to separate this event from their team (see the Lakers or the Steelers), but I don't want it to ever get to a 'he's overcome so much' angle.
  3. Like I said in response to Nuts....it's very hard to get a guilty verdict in a rape case. That would give the girl and the prosecution reason to push for a settlement. Looking at it from the other way though, if this went to court and Kane was cleared, because of those same reasons, it's likely his reputation and public image wouldn't change all that much. If he got cleared, would it change any of your opinions on him? If you're Kane, or Kane's team, maybe you accept that your reputation is tarnished, and move to get past it as quickly as possible (while, yes, eliminating any chance of a guilty verdict).
  4. It's been brought up before how historically, it's incredibly tough to reach a guilty verdict. There's a Blackhawks blog writer (also a lawyer) on Twitter at @regressedpdo that says it a lot better than I can, but there's a decent chance that the prosecution is encouraging a settlement to avoid the possibility that she has to go through a long, very difficult trial, and be left with nothing at the end of it.
  5. From the article (about what everyone expected): "The reason for the delay appears to involve the possibility of ongoing settlement talks between attorneys for Kane and the victim, two of the sources said."
  6. Gameday had a part of Ball 2 middle-middle. Which is nice.
  7. FWIW, Gameday did clock that one at 95mph. Too bad you were way off on the distance.
  8. Kris Bryant potential plus defensive third baseman is so amazing
  9. Because I don't think 116 really is that abusive and it's just a 2-0 game with the wind blowing out. You want to lock up these games and there is nobody who likely gives us a better chance than him to do so. Obviously he's on the run of his life, but I'm not sure the stats back you up on that with the Diamondbacks seeing him for the fourth time.
  10. That was a great exchange if just for the fact that I have that same feeling (and same "hey...bud" response) about once a week.
  11. Potentially unpopular opinion, but since we're more or less locked in to the one game playoff, should the Cubs be giving any thought to watching arrietas innings before October? He's already at his career high, and he'll finish today 30something innings above last year.
  12. I'd rather have Coghlan in the outfield and Baez at 2nd, but it's not a big deal I think you're both forgetting about Dongmaster Schwarber
  13. To echo the sentiment earlier, I flipped to my Gameday tab and saw a Beef double and got excited for about a half second.
  14. Green Light Javy. Meatball don't care
  15. Along the same lines of IMBs posts, I got somewhat excited when I saw Russell took him deep on Monday, and then watched the highlight and saw it was a 94 MPH fastball, so Chapman was basically throwing his version of BP.
  16. I don't get the Chapman reverence....Baez will hit his own scoreboard picture in the face in the bottom of this inning. That being said, let's get Bruce here. Want no part of Votto with guys on.
  17. I like Castro over Baez here. Find a hole.
  18. DONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
  19. "Baez swings and misses....looks like a change up that was up near the shoulders" Less than ideal.
  20. The confident Cubs fans feel like we already have a playoff spot locked up and focus on things that aren't probable but still possible. The other fans like me get annoyed at the confident ones because we haven't in our mind clinched a spot and just want to focus on whatever makes that the most possible. No doubt that it's more fun to be a confident Cubs fans, but I still want you all to screw off. Fine, but how would the Cubs winning when the Cardinals lose, today, negatively impact the Cubs' playoff chances in any way, shape or form? Unless they're playing the Giants or the Dodgers, why would anyone be bothered by people wanting the Cardinals to lose? I think it's just when it's phrased in a "Cardinals are doing this, Pirates are doing this, therefore (implied), it'd be really nice if the Cubs win". Unless the Pirates have suddenly become a hated rival, I assume they are being listed for playoff purposes. I agree ARCubswhatever seems to have a Cardinals obsession, it's just a little weird when you put it like that. And yes, I get a little surge of joy when I see the Cardinals losing too, but at this point it's more for its intrinsic value than it is when i see the Pirates losing.
