  1. this couldn't be further from the truth with this many good hitters and a competent manager, i think it's pretty much a waste of time and energy to worry about how it shakes out. you know he's not going to do anything criminally dumb, either way. truth be told, with the hitters we have even the least optimal lineup can't be that bad compared to the optimal one. who's wasting energy worrying? he's simply asking "what lineup would you like to see?" we're all basically sitting here with 10,000s of posts on a forum about a sport we like to watch and the question arises about strategy you'd like to see employed- it seems silly and needlessly dismissive to just reflexively shoot it down & say, "doesn't matter, who cares" because you happen to think it's largely intangible Or because of the poster who posed the question in the first place. You can believe that lineup order has zero impact on the game, but as sneaky said, if there's anywhere in the world to discuss it, it's here.
  2. There is a mobile version for $5 (I'm 99% sure it's the same engine) that is pretty damn addicting. I'm sure you could find a way to get a free preview, but I've found it to be a pretty solid investment.
  3. Bryant is making me sad. I know he's still good, I just want him to be good in the ways I thought he was going to be good.
  4. Fowler always catches the ball about 9 inches lower than my comfort zone.
  5. James. [expletive]. Russell. Ugh. Jesus I thought that was about Addison for a second. Deep breaths...
  6. This guy will be in Rockford, and he is 36 So it isn't this guy? That's the guy, why did I read that he was 36? Anyway he will be sent to Rockford for awhile. I know he won't be able to fill Sharp's shoes at least not anytime next year. I saw somewhere on Twitter that he has a clause in his contract that lets him return to Russia if he doesn't make the Hawks next year. So maybe it's just a lottery ticket to check on in camp, but this one looks a little more legit than their other recent signings. Edit: Here's a better article: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/khl-standout-artemi-panarin-to-sign-with-blackhawks-but-its-nhl-or-bust/ At first it's unclear on if he just has to play a game for the Hawks next year, but later in the article it seems pretty clear he has to break camp with us or he's going back to Russia.
  7. Wood looks exactly like Jim James. #thingsithinkaboutbesidesschlitter
  8. Maddon has gotten it wrong a couple times early already. Might be a little gun shy.
  9. Singing the Thong Song, but with dongs
  10. I am trying not to think about the offseason until its the offseason, but Hammer has his moments and I like what I saw from Van Riemsdyk when he played earlier this year. Hammer has been better than Seabrook for at least the last 2 years now. And really, I don't think people appreciate how good those three are. Keith is consistently one of the best three or four defensemen in the league, and the reason he puts up so many points and drives play so much is because Hammer/Oduya (usually with Toews' help) usually shuts down the other teams best players, which let Keith run all over weaker opponents. With Oduya almost definitely leaving after last season, there's a definite drop off after the top 3. But if TVR plays anything like he did at the beginning of this year, there's few teams that can put up a top 4 that match up with ours. Sign a cheap veteran that's not dead (ie not Rozsival), and plug in Johns/Paliotta/Cumiskey/Rundblad, and we should be fine. Of course, that all changes if Bowman decides Seabrook is the best way to shed salary. Whatever it takes to keep Saad around.
  11. Trust in Maddon and all that, but....why Travis Wood?
  12. I think Keith is a top 5 defenseman in the game and probably one of the two or three most important players on the Hawks. That being said, I think there's a lot of 'tool' in him. There's the hit to Sedin that has been widely discussed, and then his play on Carter that was mentioned, which I think is borderline worse just in it's recklessness and how it was blatantly not a hockey play. Throw in the sexist remarks he had a few years back ( at the end), along with the "Wakey wakey" to Backes last year, and maybe he's not Ryan Reaves, but I wouldn't call him a great guy. At the end of the day though, I'm guessing most professional athletes aren't. Just don't seriously injure anyone, which he hasn't yet, and as long as you perform, I'm willing to give it a pass. Considering Bobby Hull has pro-Nazi comments and several domestic abuse incidents on his record and he's got his number hanging, it's just kinda how it is. And not just with the Hawks.
  13. I don't know why I'm following the game on the ESPN Gameday, but their strike zone is hilariously bad.
  14. You'd hate to have it happen under these circumstances, but it's not a bad idea in general with his contract. Almost a certainty we're losing one of Sharp, Saad, Seabrook after this year....al long as its not Saad. However, not sure what kind of trade we'd be making at the deadline that would include him. Someone like him would usually get traded for prospects, but I don't think we're giving up on this year yet. Just have to wonder if they'd have enough offense to get through the rest of the year and first two rounds without Kane and Sharp.
  15. Don't know who this guy is but his Twitter account is verified. Certainly seems like he's referencing the Sharp/Keith rumors with his last line. That's the moron NFL color guy from Fox. Same rumors that came out over the offseason, which supposedly had validity because Sharp was going through a divorce. 6 months later, Sharp is still married. They didn't even practice yesterday (or this morning), so it would have had to have been....after their shootout victory on Tuesday? I'm sure there are players that don't like each other, but I don't think that's unique to the Hawks. Start winning games and this will all go away. This is totally speculation, but I think there's still a ton of guilt felt in the locker room from the Clint Reif thing. Probably has raised the tension level quite a bit.
  16. Yeah the Amaro factor really puts a halt on things. Cameron put a decent article up on Fangraphs today basically saying that the Phillies should be using the money committed to Lee as a way of 'buying' young talent. There's nothing in Amaro's history to show he would be willing to think outside the box like that, or make reasonable valuations on what everything is worth, but if he was willing to pick up a good chunk of that contract for the purpose of acquiring talent, it could be worth a discussion.
  17. Which other URL is that? Or, maybe someone better at the internet can tell me.... I'm on the site fine on my laptop at home. Been working since last night. All day yesterday and all day today at work, I keep getting the Japanese site. Anyway around that?
  18. Fun (or maybe not) hypothetical....general idea borrowed from discussions in another topic, plus the FG article today about farm system value. Cole Hamels + Cliff Lee + Enough money to pick up all of both contracts (just the buyout for Lee) for Kris Bryant. Thoughts?
  19. I think he pulled most of this work from the individual team profiles, but that's still his work, so yeah....pretty impressive. Taking my time through the list, but so far: 1. Bryant 2. Buxton 3. Russell 4. Urias 13. Soler 21. Schwarbs 64. Edwards 92. Almora 124. Underwood 125. Johnson 142-200. (Didn't list individual numbers): Vogelbach, McKinney, Torres
