  1. I see what you're saying, and I don't want to make it sound like I'm anti-Jackson, but generally don't you want to take the biggest sample size possible? I still think he can be valuable because I don't think he's a finished product. It might be a rough transition, but he's certainly not blocking anyone at this point, and the silver lining of this team's current ineptitude is that we can afford to let him prove himself to be a major league over a period longer than 2 months.
  2. 12 walks on the year. 5.7% rate. Yeah whoops, not sure how i came up with 5 Still not where I wanted it to be, but again, 22 years old holding his own. Hopefully he settles in around the 10% mark next year.
  3. God if just one of these two can pan out. So happy for Jackson. Needs to show that power to justify all the strikeouts.
  4. This has been a really rough patch. Castro and Rizzo not doing much, Vitters and Jackson not showing much of anything so far. Tough to watch, aside from the top 2 pick we might be getting.
  5. DeJesus Valbuena Castro Rizzo LaHair Clevenger Jax Barney Wood
  6. Well....at least Chapman is done. Hopefully we see Vitters to lead off the tenth.
  7. I know it sounds crazy, but I wish it would have been a longer deal. If he progresses like we think he's going to progress, him hitting free agency at 29 is going to suck.
  8. Don't know how to quote tweets in here, but Goldstein talking about Vogelbach/Boise now. You can thank/blame me for him talking about the Fielder/Vogelbach comps.
  9. Wood bats for himself in the 7th of a one run game, and then doesn't come out to pitch the 8th? Brain fart from Sveum, or a message to the people on the bench (Vitters, Jackson, Cardenas)?
  10. Can't help but chuckle at that. I've been giving him [expletive] about it on twitter for a couple days, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm surprised he got so butthurt, though. I was definitely one of those guys tonight. Whatever....taking criticism is an inherent part of the job. Especially when you interact nonstop with fans on twitter anyways.
  11. I know realistically it's just one at bat, but if Castro doesn't get on his next at bat, it's going to be really, really depressing to see his OBP fall under .300
  12. What's the point of protecting him? If they don't trust him to be an everyday player why bring him up. Let him work it out in AAA. And why treat Jackson so differently? Leading him off against a lefty in the best pitchers park in baseball yesterday?
  13. Is this today's lineup? NO. Sorry. Just thinking out loud.
  14. DeJesus Castro Rizzo Sori Vitters Castillo Jackson Barney May not be very good (yet), but so much more exciting than this time last year. Especially considering our lineup on 8/5/11 had DeWitt, Colvin, and Koyie Hill in it.
  15. #umpshow in Daytona. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10150997266562781&id=136796367780
  16. Given that we've traded 4 players on our 25 man roster in the last 24 hours, should we open a thread about who's coming up to replace them? Wellington is a no brainer, as is Coleman. Need someone to take Reed's spot (Sappelt?). Are we going with a Garza, Shark, Wood, Coleman, Germano rotation for the rest of the year?
  17. @thekapman: spoke with a solid source who told me that Tigers and Cubs are hard at work on Soriano. Not sure they can make money work.
  18. And even more exciting was that he hadn't struck out yet (0-3) when he was pulled from the game... But seriously, wouldn't make sense to call him up to take Reed's spot unless they're going to bench LaHair. Soriano's spot, on the other hand....
  19. I'd like to see him get the OBP up just a little bit, but I agree. As long as he's cheap, there's no reason why he shouldn't be there everyday. Funny note: I know everyone loves his defense, but Baseballreference LOVES his defense. He's got a 4.1 bWAR right now, good for 10th in the National League among hitters. That's compared to 1.7 fWAR. Just weird seeing that big of a difference.
  20. No traded cash for him when we thought the Dempster trade was close. This was before we had heard anything about Delgado even. Not sure what he's been doing since then.
  21. Check out the last pitch in this Bundy sequence. http://po.st/dFbvLT
