  1. Factor in that there were less pitchers in the big leagues becuase there were less teams in the big leagues as well.
  2. Somehow having Gretzky's jersey retired by the NHL feels right, but having Michael Jordan's jersey retired by the NBA doesn't feel right.....there's just something different about Gretzky. Maybe it was because he is the greatest hockey player ever, and there is not even any argument that is possible for someone else. (And please don't call me a racist with this post.) I agree with you. As great as Jordan was, he didn't do much record-wise that people had never seen before. Gretzky completely rewrote the NHL record book. For example, he racked up more career assists than any other player has career points.
  3. I would love to get him but I think he'll go to either the Yankees or Mariners.
  4. Watch the Astros miss the playoffs.
  5. but the question is not what the vet's committee thinks, at least not for a number of years. what is important is what the writers think. Did you read the Rob Neyer article that Vance is talking about? Neyer was talking about writers (granted, some of them didn't have HOF votes) and not the Veteran's Committee. I doubt McGwire gets elected next year.
  6. Stealing my jokes now, eh? I believe that was from a beer commercial. So you are the thief. Touche Garwilly. Touche. Well, I beat him to the joke then. By over a day as well.
  7. Well, this is really just the first thing that I've worried about with the Bears. I didn't mind the draft. I liked the Griese signing. I'm pretty confident they'll be a good team this year and can make some noice. But both RBs going down is not something to laugh off. That's true. And I'm not really laughing it off. Just refusing to stress myself over it...at least till we get a couple preseason games under our belt. I would be much more worried about the quarterback situation if I was the Bears. The defense should be solid again and I don't think both RB's should be out very long. Grossman finally staying healthy and showing what he can do is the question mark.
  8. I fall in that category and I voted for the Who. Not voting for them in the Finals though.
  9. Wow, this is a shame. This would have been like if Illinois and North Carolina would have faced each other in the semifinals in the 2005 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament instead of the finals. I voted for Zep but it's a shame that this isn't the finals matchup as the winner of this one should easily defeat either The Who or Queen.
  10. 10 points HEY!!! I used that exact point why Ramirez should use the escape clause and all y'all just said Beltre was coming off a career year. All garbage. "all y'all"? are you really from the Chicagoland area? By the way, I think his Beltre reference was a way of mocking you. Yeah, I'll second the mocking part.
  11. Stealing my jokes now, eh?
  12. <- has Derrek Lee I think I speak for a lot of people with this one.
  13. That's a great lineup, but it would most likely preclude us signing Schmidt or Zito. Even taking away Maddux and Wood ($20m total, I think), you add CLee at something like $13m, Loretta's going to get $4m MINIMUM, Izturis gets $4.15m, Ramirez likely will get a boost, then factor in the raises Z, Prior and some of the young'uns will get, and you're already $7-$10m OVER this years' budget. The Cubs absolutely HAVE to play 2 or 3 of Murton/Cedeno/Theriot/Fontenot in order to afford ANY free agents. And that means they have to deal Izturis. Hendry really painted himself into a corner with that trade. Prior's getting a raise? I realize he is eligible for arbitration but what has he done to earn a raise?
  14. Haha. Maybe Hendry will find some way to get Sheets on the Cubs.
  15. Shh...not yet. Now? lol..Good win Cubs-make it 4 non-losing series in a row tomorrow (3 series won, 1 split) Yes, it's okay now. We just don't need any jinxes here.
  16. Ha, Jose Cruz Jr. He cost the Giants game 3 of the 2003 NLDS against Florida because he dropped an easy, routine fly ball. The Marlins ended up getting the game winning hit with two outs (they were down 1) in that inning. Then he hurt them in Game 4 by making a horrible throw late in the game. His bad throw allowed an extra run to score and the Giants ended up losing by 1. Personally, I loved it but Giants fans didn't. Oh, and he was brought in for his defense and arm as well.
  17. So it appears this is when Keith Richards finally dies.
  18. I know, man. How long can he keep this up? How many at-bats should we give Pagan the rest of the season? How much should we play him in order to find out what we have? As much as it takes. I just know Jones is going to get his at-bats-so Pagan might get a few starts in RF the rest of the season, but otherwise Pagan and Murton will be fighting for playing time-I know many people have been upset about Pagan playing over Murton in the past. We need to find out what both can provide us. At the very least, one could be trade bait.
  19. I know, man. How long can he keep this up? How many at-bats should we give Pagan the rest of the season? How much should we play him in order to find out what we have? Plenty. As much as it takes.
  20. Good thing he was in the minors all year, eh?
