  1. If I remember correctly, Beck came into that game with absolutely nothing left in the tank. He had no velocity whatsoever. I believe he got Carter to pop out on an inside pitch that barely broke 70 mph. I remember watching that game with my dad partly because, being a Dodgers fan and avid Bonds-hater, he was actually pulling for the Cubs that day. But I remember Dead-Arm Beck coming in and his fastball was barely topping 80 but he got the job done anyway.
  2. Sanchez signles to right. Jones threw it over the backstop. Wow. I know, your wondering how it managed to go over the backstop on the 36th bounce just like I am. Perhaps it burrowed its way under the backstop? I am waiting for him to attempt a throw, spike the ball in the ground, and have the ball stick in the ground.
  3. The calls that go against you always seem to kill you. I knew that was going to happen. It's just comical at this point.
  4. I'm a quiet member of the bandwagon - I read a lot more than I post - but I've definitely been right there with you the whole way. I was nuts about this guy last year, and he was the part of our bullpen this year that I was most looking forward to. I've been a Wuertz backer as well since last year. Always liked the guy and I never understood why he was in AAA for so long.
  5. He did. He got shelled. Trade value down the toilet. When did Rusch had trade value this year?
  6. They will find a way to blow it. So much for that.
  7. Wasn't the guy that was supposed to be Notre Dame's #1 receiver last year injured for the whole year and that's the reason Samardzija was the starter? If so, who knows what would have happened last year with Samardzija at WR if the guy wasn't hurt.
  8. Heck, make Chris Speier the interim coach and let the minor league coaches come up and see what they can do. At worst, you offer them their old jobs in the offseason. Can Speier see straight enough to fill out a lineup card? I still fail to see the downside. Imagine the confusion of the players trying to figure out if the scribbled out lineup card is saying Pagan or Novoa at 2B. Good point.

  10. Psh. Dusty's just plain wrong on this. A healthy Derrek Lee would have guaranteed the Cubs a World Series victory this year.
  11. Bingo. I've been saying for a while that Dusty wouldn't get fired this year and that the best case scenario for Dusty-haters would be Hendry just letting Dusty go at the end of the year. But it's all just semantics.
  12. Just saw this on ESPN.com. This is going to absolutely kill the Sox with Manny being hurt right now as well. Hopefully he gets better. I think the Sox are pretty much dead anyway. Oh I completely agree. They were dead right when the got swept at Fenway by the Yankees. This is still the Red Sox trailing the Yankees and not the other way around. The Red Sox are done. No playoffs for Boston this year.
  13. Is there any day of the week that we have a winning record? CUBS are 10-11 on Sundays CUBS are 9-7 on Mondays CUBS are 8-11 on Tuesdays CUBS are 8-11 on Wednesdays CUBS are 3-10 on Thursdays CUBS are 8-14 on Fridays CUBS are 8-13 on Saturdays "Monday, Monday. So good to me..................... " edit: last year was better....... Team record by day of week W L pct Sunday 17 9 0.654 Monday 7 12 0.368 Tuesday 15 9 0.625 Wednesday 11 14 0.440 Thursday 6 11 0.353 Friday 13 12 0.520 Saturday 10 16 0.385 It looks like in 2005 the Cubs had a case of the Monday's.
  14. At least you didn't sign Jeff George like the Raiders just did :D Brilliant move by my Raiders. #-o 10k, are you ready for the thursday night game? It'll be just like the old days in the AFC west. Granted it's pre season but I always enjoyed the Seahawk - Raider games. I don't really watch much of the preseason and won't get to watch this game because I have to work. As long as Aaron Brooks plays horribly, I don't care about the result. It is too bad that Seattle had to move to the NFC though because that was always a heated rivalry.
  15. Yeah, I guess I should have clarified. I meant what you are implying: that Delmon Young should not be allowed to play professional baseball in any league in 2006.
  16. Just saw this on ESPN.com. This is going to absolutely kill the Sox with Manny being hurt right now as well. Hopefully he gets better.
  17. Dusty first thought of it when he was on deck for Aaron's #715.
  18. peripheral ERA is what your ERA should be based on your peripherals. based on the theory that pitchers can only control strikeouts, walks, and homeruns (ie they cannot control BABIP). So what is the formula to get the peripheral ERA for a pitcher?
  19. I don't know about Ortiz but Manny has sat out the past few games. Also, how horrible does that lineup look without those two guys? Loretta and Youkilis as the 3-4 hitters. Unbelievable.
  20. A few things: 1. Can somebody explain to me what the terms "component ERA" and "peripheral ERA" mean? 2. Warren, your third premise is completely invalid and you are looking at it in an extreme way. There is no way you can consider a pitcher giving up 100 runs in a start and present that as part of your argument. 3. So by your argument Warren, Carpenter or Willis deserved the NL Cy Young in 2005 over Roger Clemens. I realize this was an extreme case but there was a thread talking about this a few months ago and there have been numerous examples over the past few years where a pitcher with more wins won the Cy Young over a pitcher with a better ERA and WHIP.
  21. Some said the same thing about Paplelbon this spring. Tampa is as close as it gets to the minors anyways. I was referring to the bat incident and the fact that I think he should have been suspended for the remainder of the year.
  22. He should not be playing professional baseball this year.
  23. At least you didn't sign Jeff George like the Raiders just did :D Brilliant move by my Raiders. #-o
  24. go Aggies! UNC is usually pretty darn good though. We always seem to pick it up and play well against the better teams while suffering letdowns against the teams that aren't as good (with the exception of Sac State). Hopefully I will be able to attend all 5 home games this year. is there much tailgating? :D Unfortunately with the no open container policy that the city of Davis has, not in the traditional sense. But the Davis Graduate usually opens early on Saturday's for college football in the fall.
