  1. Personally, I would have voted Carpenter but I can't complain about Webb. Oswalt would have been a very close third. Z didn't deserve it this year.
  2. 2 and both are authentic. A pinstriped Sosa and the blue alternate with no name.
  3. I like him as a back-up to Ramirez. You like paying him $4.3m to back him up? yes, but not just 3B. I like an .800+ OPS to get 450 AB's at various positions. You don't know if he's going to put up an .800+ OPS. He has only done it once, in 2006, in his career and his career OPS is .735.
  4. Even though he was with Texas his home/away splits are basically the same with the SLG a bit higher on the road. He is on the wrong side of 30 though. We'll see, it depends on how much the deal is for.
  5. Still doesn't make sense why Boston spends $148 million and the Cubs $100. They're competing with the Yankees. We're spending as much if not more than our division rivals. Money isn't the issue. It's how it's spent. Jones + Izturis + Dempster + Rusch = $17MM Howry + Eyre (luxuries) = $8MM Prior (never healthy) = $4MM There's nearly $30MM in money for players that essentially do not make your 90+ loss team any better. Ouch. Howry and Eyre do make your team better but the money that they are being paid, namely Eyre, is the issue. Also, I don't think you can really count Jacque Jones in there as somebody who doesn't make the team any better. It's true that, if counted on as a major player in the lineup then it's not worth it. But Jacque should not be counted on as a Lee or Ramirez type player and isn't being paid to be such a player.
  6. I heard he pitches too, which would solve another of our problems. I'm in.
  7. I really like ARam now. Not that I didn't before but I'm not sure if I could have turned down an extra $27M to stay with a team that finished in last place the previous year.
  8. Depends on your definition of crushed, but I don't see ND getting crushed by either Michigan or OSU. I think they'd even make a game of it against Michigan. Problem is, ND was already crushed by Michigan this year and was crushed by OSU at the end of last year. Notre Dame is a horribly flawed team. Their defense isn't that good and they can't run the ball effectively to save their lives. I'm not saying ND would get crushed if they faced OSU or UM again but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they did. OSU got like half their yards on four plays and spotty officiating on a fumble returned for a game-tying TD changed the whole game. Ohio State outplayed ND, but this "crushed" rhetoric needs to stop. I don't need to recite by how much OSU outgained ND and OSU also turned the ball over twice. If they didn't get "crushed", it was still a relatively easy and very decisive victory by OSU.

  10. OSU 24-17
  11. It should be a close, and hopefully entertaining game. I'm picking OSU to win because the game is in Columbus and because I think they are a little bit better than UM. If the game was in the Big House I might change my opinion. I'm not a fan of either team so I won't be disappointed if one team wins and just want a good game. It's not likely that it will live up to they hype it's getting but few games of this magnitude ever do.
  12. I would be surprised if the Cubs won the bid but at least, if the reports are true, the Yankees didn't win the bid.
  13. Boise St. RB Ian Johnson is hospitalized with a collapsed lung. Hopefully he'll recover. ESPN.com link He's the second leading rusher in the nation and a big reason why Boise is undefeated right now.
  14. Between Rogers and Sullivan the Trib have no good Cub reporters. They're good in the Tribune's eyes because they say what the Tribune wants them to say.
  15. So which QB did you pick and which would have racked up the most points in your league?
  16. Reserved for when he misses out on all the non-cub FAs. It is funny that he's suddenly getting some love even though the 2007 team is identical to the 2006 version so far. Yeah, but minus Pierre. But c'mon, you gotta give him some credit. So far he couldnt be doing much better.....so far. I agree the Wood and Ramirez deals were very good moves, I just find it a little funny. Yeah, as of right now, I'm pleased. But if this is the end of the offseason Hendry would and should get ripped. He's still has problems with the starting pitching to solve.
  17. So much for playing Duke on ESPN 2 tomorrow. UC Davis got hammered by Georgia Southern 116-73. Ouch.
  18. It barely eclipses 'goodbye dusty day' just because Aramis was so crucial. Doesn't anyone remember the day Macias was dfa'd or the day Neifi got traded?? Those were good days............. On the trib site the have a poll on whether you like the the wood signing the Aram signing, both or neither. 6% of the morans voted that they liked neither :? April 9, 2006. Oh, and I love the deal.
  19. This is something that Cuse said in last weeks thread, but i wanted to bring the discussion over here. This is one of my main problems with the polling system. Earlier in the season, Florida's wins over Auburn, Tennessee and LSU looked really, impressive (not that they still arent quality wins, just some of the shine has been taken off.) Anyway, those wins look great, so Florida is highly ranked. Now, those teams lose a few more games, and the wins don't look as good. But what can you do if Florida doesn't lose? Florida's ranking is based on the strength of those wins, and they won't fall in the rankings unless they lose, no matter if Auburn, Tennessee and LSU lose every remaining game. Now, I'm not singling out Florida here, just using them as an example. ND in 2005 is probably the most blatant example of this, as they beat three Top 25 teams in the first 5 weeks of the season and none of them (save 7-5 Michigan) ended up being worth a crap. This is why I like you even though you're a Notre Dame fan, because you can recognize and admit things like this. Plus then I didn't have to make the point.
  20. You mentioned the SEC title game which would give Arkansas two potential quality victories down the stretch compared to Notre Dame's one. Arkansas has a very legitimate chance of passing Notre Dame if both win out.
  21. Just got back from a UCD water polo match and saw the news and now I need a new pair of boxers. I am so happy right now. GREAT NEWS!!
  22. At least this one has Rutgers over WVU but they have Louisville behind WVU. Plus, Arkansas over Notre Dame. I LOVE IT!!
