  1. That's a darn good point. Pena's OBP is consistently 90 - 100 points over his BA. If you could get the guy to hit just .275, he'd likely have nos as good or better than Clark's, and he's 10 yrs younger. The problem with Pena, is that the Cubs have too MANY lefty handed bats off the bench. They NEED a RH pop off the bench, hence the reason why the momentum is toward acquiring Clark, and not Pena.
  2. I may sound abit paranoid, but the last week or so, the Cubs has had some VERY bad calls and or crappy umping against them. It's never fun when you are not only having to play against the other team's nine, but the 4 supposedly "unbias" men who were the "blue".
  3. The Cubs want to get rid of Rusch, and I need a batting practice pitcher for my nephew's little league team. So...I'm offering the backup first base bag, and a pair of s40 yr old cleats for Glendon Rusch? My teams really needs the hitting practice. Is it a deal?
  4. To be fair this is Tony Clark's numbers at Wrigley. I know, I know it is only 16 at-bats, and a very small sample, but still it is encouraging: .313 .389 .688 1.077
  5. I don't buy Prior wanting to leave the Cubs. I HONESTLY believe that like the fans, Mark Prior is fully frustrated with his time in Chicago. He knows he can help the Cubs. And just because he is from Californai doesn't mean he wants "to go home." What kind of reasoning is that? Prior will eventually get healthy, and will be one of the game's best very soon. Patient is a virtue that must be applied.
  6. Sad thing is...the were running promo about a "1 hour special" of the Yanks/Red Sox rivalry before it starts up again? When do the Cubs/Cards, Dodgers/Giants, White Sox/Indians, get their "1 hour specials?" God, I hate ESPN and their blatantly bias towards the two spoil brats of teams of the Yanks/Red Sox.
  7. The Cubs before Lee's injury: 7-4 5.72 offensively per game 4.63 pitching per game The Cubs since Lee left the field with the wrist injury: 6-6 3.58 offensively per game 5.08 pitching per game After watching the Cubs give up 25 runs in two games, and counter that with 2 RUNS. Baker needs to lay into them. But wait....since Baker needs to keep his "player's manager" persona in full force, I doubt Baker will do anything. This team clearly needs a SPARK.
  8. If the Cubs don't get their heads out of each others booty, I won't matter should the Cubs try for Abreu, it would be what can the Cubs get for Maddux, Walker, Pierre, and perhaps Hairston.
  9. Look what people are not thinking about is that...this may have been the "Brewers it series" in terms that they were going to hit WHOEVER the Cubs put on the mound. No rhyme or reason, just they were going to see the ball alot better then the Cubs. It happens. You just have to shake your head, and move on. Z not throwing the ball well, consistantly. But the Cubs dodge a bullet, the season isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, which gives Z time to get his game back.
  10. Considering the Cubs recent history with dealing with high drafted talented pitchers, I would be mad, if they didn't bring Pawelek slowly. Blasko, Christensen, Hagerty, Clanton, and the beat goes on to high draft picks that has suffered injuries early in their careers. If they want to move Pawelek slowly, I would be more the ready to agree with them.
  11. No, it doesn't matter the intent of Delmon Young, the fact that he threw a BAT at the UMPIRE, deserves SEVERE punishment. Vinestal, this can't be tolerated, and baseball need to nip this in the bud. He needs to be suspended for the rest of the yr, because this young KID needs to grow up. This bat throwing incident isn't the only "anger" problem he has shown. When he was in Montgomery he would often get very hostile with the media in Montgomery and he would become confrontational when faced with authority. This kid, needs a wake up call, and suspending him for the yr, would be the kind of punishment he needs. He doesn't need to be babied, he KNEW what he was doing, and did it anyways. And no, Vinestal, Delmon Young CAN NOT play for the Independent League, cause he is STILL under contract with the Tampa Bay. Suspending from baseball, is exactly what it means...SUSPENDED FROM BASEBALL, period.
  12. All I know is the Brewers BETTER get it all out today, cause they ain't getting anything from Zambrano tomorrow. The Cubs will win the series, and I fully expect Z to go 8 innings, and just DOMINATE the Brewers.
  13. OH....goony, you HAD to go there, didn't you? There's a Jim Edmonds joke in here somewhere... Stupid question... Is Edmunds really gay? There have been rumors and speculation (namely the Edgar Renteria shower incident that earned him the nickname of "Lassie"), but no one publically knows. It's kinda like Derek Jeter and A-Rod. Enlighten me. I think the ROUGH version of th e story is that...Edmonds had a "little too much to drink" after a ballgame, and got a "little too friendly" with Edgar in the SHOWERS. I'm sure that is a rough draft of what happen, but that is, IMO, a blount version of what happen. If anybody can provide a little more of the details, then share.
  14. If we get Tony Clark, maybe Lee and Clark can challenge Deng and Noce to a 2 on 2 basketball game.
  15. With that, if the Cubs are trading a solid vet "cheaper" bullpen arm for an overrated, low productive, EXPENSIVE player, I think the Cubs should GET a prospect say.....Sergio Santos, John Ford Griffin, or somebody along that nature. If the Cubs don't get a prospect in the deal, then they would be screwed.
  16. I'm sorry, but Delmon shouldn't just face a suspension, he should FACE criminal charges. Tossing a bat at another person, is assault, plain and simple. If McSorely could face criminal charges after slammin' his stick into Brashear, and if Bertuzzi could face criminal charges for sucker punching Moore of Colorado, then Delmon should face criminal charges for throwing his bat, INTENTIONALLY at the umpire. Baseball should not award Young, with a suspension, or should I say paid vacation, Young should be awarded time in jailhouse. This is uncall for.
  17. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp?id=182595 I have to ask, why does Bruce Froemming hates the Cubs organization? I mean, I can remember SEVERAL calls with him as umpire have gone against the Cubs. This umpire, IMO, has an agenda with the Cubs. And if it possible, the Cubs should ask MLB to never schedule Froemming to work any Cubs game---home or away---cause it seems to me, the Cubs won't get a fair deal from him. He wouldn't explain his decision to call a balk to Williamson? Now he should be FINE for that. I mean, if Williamson balk, should the player have the right to know what he did, so that he doesn't do it again? This is why I think Froemming has an agenda against the Cubs. And if Froemming wouldn't talk to Williamson, why didn't Baker go out there and get an answer from him. All in all, I think it's time for Froemming to retire---cause if the Cubs make the playoffs, and he is part of the postseason umping crew, the Cubs will get screwed---because that old man is LOSING it. Rant off.
  18. I'd say offer the kid the Cubs got for Lawton(Berg), and get Pena today. Having Mabry lead off the bottom of the ninth, would have been abit better then Perez.
  19. The Cubs need ANOTHER big bat on the bench, if for nothing else, to keep Nefti from ever smelling the batter's. It is a BAD managing job, when you have Neft leading off (and I know that was mention earlier). The Cubs need to find another RH big bat, so they can get rid of either Bynum or Restovich (way back to Iowa) .
  20. And Jacques Jones is an "offensive liability." So you take the average, with the bad.
  21. If the Cubs could get more then two gosh darn hits against a AAA pitcher, maybe they would have swept this AAA team. And the Cubs are in no position to be "just satisfied" with series wins. If they can get the sweep, they NEED to develop that killer instinct, and complete the sweep. Sweeping the Cards, and not sweeping the Marlins, makes this Cub fan  .
  22. Why, oh why, are the Cubs being played tough by a AAA team? Even without Lee, the Cubs should have one all three of these games, COMFORTABLY. This crap of playing down to the competition has GOT TO STOP, because it is friggin' annoying.
  23. Well....it happens. Pierre steals that bag atleast 8 out 10 times, so I am willing to bet that catcher doesn't get Pierre again.
  24. Compare to Carlos Zambrano's MLB debut, Gooz's outing looks like an All Star.
