  1. If Neifi was putting up Cedeno's numbers they'd represent a career year. Neifi put up the same line last year with much better defense, actually. In what fantasy world? He had a sub .300 OBP. Just about the same OPS....and better D. I hope Cedeno improves his game more, but it is a fact that Neifi Perez in 2005 was the better player if you are looking strictly at the stats so far. I disagree that Nefti's season in 2005 was "better" then Cedeno is having in 2006. I would say...at worst...that the seasons are comparable. But the fact you keep ignoring, is that Cedeno is 23 YEARS OLD, and Nefti is 32 YEARS OLD. Cedeno's line is acceptable in relation to his age. Nefti's is not acceptable. In other words...Cedeno has a chance to improve in time, Nefti cannot improve, cause he doesn't have the skills.
  2. I think most agree that if the Cubs deal Maddux to the Dodgers, the Cubs should reasonably expect to get Either/Navarro/Kemp/Aybar/Delwon Young, longshot but Billingsley back in the deal. Who knows, depending on how well Maddux, the Cubs could get two of those youngsters. With that said....what could the Cubs reasonably ask for and possibly get for the rest of the NL West, exclude Colorado (seeing as I don't think Maddux will want to go to Colorado).
  3. Mariners SHOULD HAVE KNOWN about Beltre being a "contract yr" kind of player. Yet, they still grossly overpaid for Beltre. Now Sexson, his season is a surprise.
  4. Sarcastic or not...the Yankees still have Mr. Yankee Alex Rodriguez... . But joking aside...they still have ARod/Jeter/Giambi/Posada/Cano/Damon so they still have a decent offense. So, I wouldn't dig the Yanks grave. JUST YET.
  5. Can we really STOP talking about Corey Patterson? He isn't a Cub, anymore, and he should be out of sight, out of mind. The only Patterson we should talk about is his brother, Eric.
  6. screw wilson, they got any 2B they could send us for Hill, it would be the perfect trade :P I'd take Jose Castillo....
  7. The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. The Patterson trade was simply the best option at the time, and it will prove to be the BEST the Cubs could have done. And on Prior, I don't want just "getting something" for Prior. Everybody knows what Prior can do when he is healthy (SHOULD have won the Cy Young in 03, but oh well) thus the Cubs---if they decide to trade---should demand...a very good package for Prior. The Cubs DON'T have to trade Prior, and ONCE Prior gets healthy (it's a matter of time) he WILL be in the same class as Z. Was it a hotstreak in 2003 when Corey hit .298/.329/.511/.840 in 329 AB's? Corey was going through the natural progressions of a young hitter. Is it a coincidence that his numbers decreased dramatically after Dusty got to Chicago and now that he's in Baltimore, his numbers are back up to his 2003 range? I think not. 2003: .298/.329/.511/.840 2006: .291/.336/.507/.843 Those numbers look awfully similar don't they? You can't argue that Patterson would have stay at that pace for the rest of the season. You simply can't. My guess is...a couple of hot streaks surrending by CRAP, doesn't mean Corey has found it all of a sudden. You can blame Dusty all you want, but the fact is...Corey simply did NOT care at all about producing in Chicago. I still contend when pitchers figure Corey out, Corey will return to the .250/.310/.400 line.
  8. ---- The Cubs, IMO, will contend before Howry's cotnract is up. So I much rather hold onto Howry---who have been impressive.... (.88/.209/2.16) so it would definately take MORE then just Brandon McCarthy to land Howry. Add in the "rivalry factor" and I would ask for Jerry Owens along with McCarthy for Howry. But since Howry isn't GOING ANYWHERE, this is a moot topic.
  9. Remember the Cubs have a handshake agreement not to trade Maddux. And Hendry is pretty good at honoring these "handshake agreements." (remember Rod Beck) My guess is....the Cubs would talk to Maddux about a trade to a west coast team (if/when the Cubs fall out of contention) and if Maddux agree, then you might see things heat up. With that said, I would love to Guzman, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Cubs land either Matt Kemp, Dionar Navarro, or Andre Either(<----I really like this kid) for Maddux.
  10. So...when you pick them, you get them at their current contract status? So picking someone like Z you only get two years before he's FA (and he'll be expensive next year), but Verlander is yours for five more years? I'm not sure about 2-10, but Pujols is #1. I think he is talking pure talent wise TO START a franchise. Not taking in account the contract status. With that said this would bemy top 10: Alex Rodriguez Miguel Cabrera Derek Jeter Manny Ramirez Albert Pujols  Roy Oswalt Carlos Zambrano Vladimir Guerrero Carlos Beltran (yes, a surprise.....but still a productive 5 tool player) Grady Sizemore Eh, I would take Santana over Oswalt, who is 29. I would also take Wright over Jeter, and move ARod back to short. I would not take Manny, as he is 34. Top 10: Pujols Cabrera ARod Santana Z Sizmore Wright Bay Peavy Mauer First: I think Oswalt is more dominate then Santana, even if you factor in the leagues they pitch in. I just think Oswalt has better pure stuff then Santana, hence I put him over Santana. Second: So you wouldn't take Manny because he is 34, yet you would take Albert Pujols because he is 32 (alledgely)? I don't buy your reasoning. Manny, IMO, is slightly better hitter then Pujols (not by alot, but still...) and even at 34, I'd still take Manny over Pujols.
  11. I think Nevin will help outmore then what people are thinking. This is a player who struggle in the AL ever since he was drafted. But since he moved to the NL, he has had an OBP over .339 (not great but would be one of the better OBP on the time) for 6 straight yrs. I'm willing to say....moving back to the NL, and playing for a contract in 2007, wll rejuvenize Nevin.
  12. If the Cubs do trade Maddux (which is unlikely, right now) it wouldn't surprise me if they'd trade him to San Francisco or San Diego, just to screw over Colleti.
  13. Only the Cubs can make a pitcher who has given up a total of 86 HOMERUNS in the last 3 yrs, be shut down.
  14. 5. 3 to Pujols. 8. 3 to Pujols. And 1 to Edmonds, Taguchi, Eckstein, Luna, and Rolen. Gonna be tough for Edmonds to get one with him expected to go on the DL. :D And your point is? Rusch is going to start that game, so even from the DL, Edmonds would still take him out.
  15. 5. 3 to Pujols. 8. 3 to Pujols. And 1 to Edmonds, Taguchi, Eckstein, Luna, and Rolen.
  16. Face it guys...whoever it was at fault the fact remains, Corey wasn't going to produce in Chicago. Alot of people take that SMALL sample size in 2003, I believe, and assume he could do that over a full season. Yet...he was given two full season to replicate, and he couldn't. That is fact. I seriously doubt he keeps pace with his current numbers. In fact, I'm going to say his ave/obp will be similar to Pierre's before the yr is out.
  17. Why are people getting animated over a "meh" move? This move is what it is...move for some power, that's it. It's not going to make/break this season. If people haven't notice this team is full of girlyesque type hitters, Nevin---not a good hitter---does bring SOME pop to the team. And imo, at least for the short-term; Nevin at 1st, Walker at 2B, is better then Womack at 2b, and Walker at 1B. But hey...Womack is versatile. He can play SOME SS, OF, hell he can even run fast to the doughnut shop.
  18. Agreed. Same^. This isn't a world beater trade, but...considering other options like Tony Clark, JT Snow, Jeff Conine, Kevin Millar (Millah!!!!), getting Nevin was better then those bums, maybe outside of Clark. And if memory serves me correct, is Nevin a FA after the yr? So...not at all a abd move, just a decent move.
  19. Come on people, who else would love to see Cubs .v. Selig. The most electrifying owner in sports, versus the most boring sports president in sports? It's a billionaire's version of the "Odd Couple."
  20. Since when did Prior throw in the upper 90's with ease? He's always been know to throw "mid 90s" with ease. But Prior is better and more comfortable in the 92-94 mph range.
  21. Dare I say....a noogie sandwich to you, if you don't retract that statment? J/K.....and don't try jinxing the Cubs.
  22. Clemens has a "legandary workout system" (ie similar intensity that Walter Payton had) so, when he comes back, it won't be that he is "rusty", is that he would need to get into game shap. Conditioning won't be a problem.
  23. You can make a case for ARod should go number 1, also.
  24. So...when you pick them, you get them at their current contract status?
