  1. Better still: Bring Joshua to him. Fire Clines and promote Joshua to major league hitting coach. Lets just swap coaching staffs with Iowa. Joshua is a better hitting coach, Dunn is a better pitching coach, Quade's a better manager....heck whomever their bench coach is probably does a better job than Pole does; lets just clean the house that Dusty built and start over. What does a bench coach do? (on a real team, not the cubs...) (In thick British accent) Tea and cookies for said Mr. Baker?
  2. Removing Dempster from the closers' role now, would be like wife buying life insurance for her husband, after he died. Every move the Cubs make, RIGHT NOW, is gear into belief they they still live in "la la land", and that some magical run is still within their sites. Howry as closer, or Eyre, or Dempster, it don't matter, this team will finish near 30 games under .500. But hey if Howry/Eyre can get a couple of saves IN JUNE, maybe that be enough to warrant extending Baker till the end of time.
  3. I skedaddled past acceptance, and moved right into comedy with this club. This team makes me laugh more then anything else.
  4. Mueller too. To be fair, Mueller career could be over.
  5. Cubs will lose another game? Who knew? Whistles to the tune of "The Beat Goes On."
  6. Look, if people don't like the pick, fine, but don't get down on Colvin, because of the bitterness towards the franchise. This WAS NOT A GREAT DRAFT, people, and Hendry wanted players who would reach the "floor" instead of "ceilings." Again, it's work for the A's. So, instead of looking at the short-term, look at the long-term of this draft. IMO, there will be atleast 5-10 players from this draft to play in the majors.
  7. Some mid-game humor: http://www.all-baseball.com/cubreporter/archives/023405.html#more
  8. We get the picture. No, it can't be said enough. Cubs suck Nah... The Cubs have skedaddled past suck, they bypass crap, the refused to get off at putrid, and they have a reach a level of ineptitude that is only matched by the Kansas City Royals.
  9. What about Izturis and LaRoche for Ramirez? In 2007 put Izturis at SS, Cedeno at 2B, EPatt at Iowa, and then in 2008 decide which two of the three you want to keep. Replace Izturis with Kemp, Guzman, or Billingsley, and it would be a deal. Izturis is not a GOOD player. He is a younger Nefti Perez.
  10. 27 yr old 3rd baseman who plays to the level of the talent around him (can be both good and bad) for a 32 yr old OF, nearing the end of his prime. Yeah...let's do it. NOT. No thank you.
  11. I want to see how long the Cubs can go without scoring against the Brewers. 13 innings without scoring against the "vaunted Brewers pitching staff." Man, to think "The Benchwarmers" could beat these bunch of losers.
  12. Izturis for Ramirez? Oh boy, where do I sign......? Two words: Eric Patterson. We don't need another Nefti Perez on this team, and trading the OTHER legitimate POWER threat for a useless utility player, is definately the Cubs M.O. The Cubs SHOULD not entertain any trade offers for ARam, especially from the Dodgers for anything less then Kemp/Billingsley or Joel Guzman.
  13. I going to get my Baker sxcuse out now...."Well, the dude pitched pretty well tonight, and we couldn't get the hits when we needed it. Overall we played a pretty good game, despite the final was 12-1."
  14. Ya just ignore it, the problem will fix itself  Lee is the super star on this team, he's the one that needs to stand up and fight the horrible play thus far. I think it was smart of him to keep quiet while he was out, but now that he's back playing at a pretty good level considering the amount of time he's missed he's got every right to voice his opinion. If Pierre came out and said this I'd have a problem with it, Lee was the right person to do this. Agreed. Seeing as the Cubs team "went dead" when Lee was lost for 2 months, it's only fair Lee should call out the team.
  15. I disagree. This was NOT a good year for the draft. There was only ONE SURE-FIRE stud in the draft in Andrew Miller. Guys like Linecum, Bard, Rowell, and say Marrero and the like are pretty much boom or bust caliber players....including Tyler Colvin. Talent wise, part of me wish the Cubs would had taken Daniel Bard (dude, was throwing 98 mph in the 8th, with a very good breakin ball in the Nat'l Champ game) but oh well. To me there wasn't much value difference between 13 and 30. Players between 13-30 could had gone in any order. So it wasn't a "stretch" per se, it wasn't unexpected. And unexpected doesn't mean the pick of Tyler Colvin was a bad one, either. Only to those, who like the "sexy" names like a Billy Rowell, or a Hank Conger, or a Travis Snider, or a Chris Marrero. Looks to me like the Colvin pick reaks of Hendry trying to get players who can contribute to the big club in no time. So he went with an OFer with limited potential, but IMO, Colvin has a better chance at reaching the "lower expectations" then say Snider or a Conger, who has "higher ceilings. In his first draft, I didn't mind drafting players whose potential was closer to the floor, then to the ceilings. It has worked for Oakland. Again, before we write off this draft as a "bust" (this draft will need Colvin, Sammy, and Rundle to produce, immediately, I admit) let's see what the kids can do. Don't write off the kids, because of the bitterness towards the franchsie. I could live with the .340 OBP with 15 hrs and prolly closer to 20 sbs, with solid defense in CF, anyday of the week. Speed isn't the only thing that matters in CF, and if Wilken believes this kid can play CF, Colvin will have to prove he can't, before I am concern. Let me answer that question with this question....why not take the gamble? Alot of people were going to question the draft, and call it "failed draft" anyways. Why not roll the dice, on players who they feel can play and hope for the best. If Colvin can't prove to be anything more then a "4th OFer), or if Sammy elects to play NFL, or Rundle is a "bust", oh well nothing really lost. This wasn't a great draft. To me...taking a kid with characters issues like Drabek would have been "BAD" (remember Sisco, the kid still won't grow up, and I fill Drabek will be in the same mold) over a good character, good kid, solid baseball talents would have been disasterous. Look, all I ever ask from my fellow Cubs fans, is stop being so short-sighted about the draft. This isn't the NBA/NFL when young players are expected to make an imediate impact. MLB draft is designed for the long-term, the big pictrue, so to speak. And Tim Wilken, and the Cubs have followed their draft picks longer then the Cubs fans, and I believe they did their homework. And call me naive, I trust Wilken. If they fail, fine....but don't say they fail because they are players you didn't want the Cubs to pick. Not fair to the kids.
  16. Silver lining: One more loss closer to Baker being terminated, and then shot out of Chicago by a friggin' cannon.
  17. Baker's excuse for the night: "The Brewers turned too many DPs tonight."
  18. The Cubs don't, but Tim Wilken does. I don't think so. He's employed by the Cubs, hired by the Hendry/MacPhail regime. That alone is enough to tarnish whatever image he had coming in. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt since he has full control of draft decisions. I can't help but maintain a large amount of skepticism about any decision made by anybody involved with this organization. Until Wilken is "brainwash" into the way of the Cubs thinking, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Nobody else, tho.
  19. Yes. No matter how you slice it drafting Colvin was pretty much a waste. Wow. I understand we reached for him, but give the kid a couple years before you call him a "waste." Agreed. He was STILL considered a 1st rd guy. So, if for nothing else, he went about 15 picks before he should have gone. But Tyler Colvin, will be a very good player for the Cubs. Not even close. Who told you this? He was ranked 170th by BA, well outside the first few rounds. Here, read this: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5713564 Or this: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-060607cubsdraftsep,1,2979325.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines This was a reach of the most extreme variety. There can't even be an argument about this. Seriously man, this pick just shows what a complete mess the Cubs are as a franchise. They're treading water in a sea of poor decisions and bad information. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/askba/261494.html Try this on for size, Soul Look, Jim Callis mentioned he prolly wouldn't take Colvin at 13, but then that is still based on opinion. Yes...Colvin was a stretch at 13, but NOT, I repeat NOT an outreagous reach as some are overblowing. So, I trust Tim Wilken ability to judge talent, and if he believe Tyler Colvin is worth the gamble at 13, then WHO is anybody to argue with him.
  20. You think they fire him before the White Sox series? With no offday in between? That'd be awesome. Maybe they'll fire him mid-game. Right in the middle of the field preferably. Like when he is out making a pitching change. Hendry should walk out to the mound, take dusty's hat off, and make him walk out of the park. Through the stands so everyone can throw their beer on him and laugh at him. Right when Dusty is about to exercise a double switch. Close, but I see Dusty trying to pull a rare "Triple Switch" in which he sub Mabry, Perez, and Blanco in for Lee, Murton, and the pitcher. Cause dude, why do we need Lee, when we have hot-hitting Blanco on the team. ends sarcasm.
  21. Explain why he missed 2 months of baseball this year. Was that a "freak" incident? I don't care who has more upside, I'll take a stable above average dependable #3 pitcher than an unstable possible #1 (someday) because the first one will get off to a good start and be pitching for you when spring training ends. The other one will be whipping towels for you. Prior is a pitcher YOU wait for. When (not if) he is healthy, you are going to be glad you stay patient.
  22. Anyone with less than 7 years playing experience is a rookie to this guy. Be a man and don't blame them Baker will you? Oh yeah Baker, explain how Florida is doing so much better than the Cubs too while you're at it? Coward. Or how about the Dodgers (with a similar payroll situations, and injuries) with 7 rookies?
  23. Didn't Mark Wohlers also once hit 104 mph a fews yrs ago? Because that is weak. I mean Brandon Frazier hit 109 and 100 mph in the WORLD SERIES, man, against the Cardinals MAN. :)
